    Default Unification talk.

There was a thread made about this and I decided to make a hypothetical scenario, which I think makes sense.

Say Vitali retires and Arreloa (#1 rank) gets the WBC title. Wlad beats him and takes it.

Now I believe that you should be made to defend your title once a year for each governing body.

Which means Wlad would have to have 4 fights per year.

All hypothetical but just how far from reality is this? Should you be made to defend your title at the very least, yearly?

Or does money play a part? Is that why fighters like Wlad can just pick people like Pianata for an easy win and payday?
    You say tomato,
    ‘n I say …… it correctly.

Money most definitely plays a role. Just have a close look at Roy's career. There is no way that Wlad has kept up to his mandatory obligations but he's kind of in a similar position to Roy. He's been so dominant that the rules don't apply. In addition all one has to do to be a suitable optional is be in the top 15. Each Org has there own rules. One states you must defend in 90 days and another in 110 days etc etc. Floyd has also got lots of passes because of the gates he generates. The only thing consistent about these governing bodies is their inconsistency.

Vitali will retire if Arreola wins. He'll fight Stiverne if he wins, because a Don King fighter will never unify with Wladimir.

If Arreola had fought and defeated Stiverne on the originally scheduled dates in December, January or March, Vitali would be officially refired now. He's just waiting for the result of Arreola-Stiverne.

Imo Wlad will get the first shot after Vitali retires and tbh I think he should. Had it been anyone but his brother Wlad would probably already own the belt. I'm no fan of the guy but I'd love to see a truly unified champ. Its been a long haul since Tyson and Hopkins were.

aha so that's what the talk about fighting stiverne was all about :S... nice work from vitali.. I am hoping for a wlad v the wbc champ but that fight can be so awkward to be made because of politics.... good work from vitali

Wlad could win and unify it but he will fall apart with so many interests wanting to keep the title separate so that they can make their cut. I think Wlad will do it as a symbolic thing and then dump them in the bin.

if he gets the chance maybe his plan is to win em all and retire afterwards... the wbc seem to like making people choose if they want the other 3 or the wbc belt.... and wlad is 37, rich what more does he need win em all and retire

Wlad could go on until he is 40, he will never make this amount of money again, he is in good condition, got new young challengers, wants to go to the Olympics so will hang around for a little bit longer, much to Haye's dismay.

you may be right... but if he does manage to get all 4 belts(i hope he does) then what is left.. from the 2012 highest paid athlete list i saw wladimir was in the top 50 and the 3rd highest paid boxer, can't see him needing the money and it is a hard life to be as old as he is and stay in such condition.. he's beaten everyone if he gets the wbc belt at the same time as all the belts he has just now I think that will be his time to go and he can go off and do the k2 promotions and live happily ever after.. i think at that age you need motivation and i think getting all 4 belts is the only motivation left for him.

If you hold more than one title (and one of them is the WBA), the WBA makes you 'Super' Champion, which means you're only required to meet your mandatory every 18 months. I'm ashamed that I know this.

That's good information to know. I don't know why the major organizations haven't come together to work out a unification/ranking formula for title fights.

Oh, I know why? Because their rankings are all bullshit. Take for example guys like Luis Ortiz, Kubrat Pulev or Dennis Boystov- these guys are on some lists, but not on any other. Take for example Arreola, he is ranked #1 by the WBC, but not in the top ten on any other list- and Arreola should be in at least the top 5 contenders in the world on any list.

    I don't get this BS
