Floyd who hadnt filled out at the weight against a prime mayorga... who wins?
Floyd. Easy win.
People are gonna say "WELL LOOK WHAT HE DID TO FORREST". So fucking what. For whatever reason, Mayorga's brawling style matched up well against Forrest. Great fighters often run into guys that just have their number. That doesn't mean Mayorga gives fits to every slick boxer because he beat one great slick boxer.
I think Mayorga would be lucky to win 2 rounds vs. a guy like Floyd or Whitaker.
Beanflicker stomped a mudhole in this topic and walked it dry
Floyd definitely grew into the weight and against Baldimor he ran a lot. He would have done the same against Mayorga who was crude but effective against Forrest but not so against Spinks.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
Only way Mayorga touches Mayweather is if he pulls a broken beer bottle on him and asks permission first.
Floyd wide on the cards![]()
Cold Heart and a Weak Mind
Vernon Forrest(pre-shoulder injury) would have been more difficult for Floyd.
Believe me when I say Im not the biggest Mayorga fan out there but im dumbfounded when some of you dismiss him as some kinda one hit wonder..
He fuckin destroyed 6head lewis to set up a unification match with Forrest and we know what happened next.. Then he beat Spink's punkass only to get robbed because the system was against him. It's as if the result was predetermined to get the evil guy.. DO you guys realize how unfair the referee was?? he practically carried Spink's punkass on his back.. U thought FOrrest fought scared? lol SPinks fought like a straight bitch and im still pissed at the fact that he became an " undisputed champion " in that fashion.. I mean wtf lol
FLoyd mayweather in 2006 hadn't grown into WW frame and he sure didnt have the WW strength.. That's why he was so timid against Baldomir .. FLoyd would run even harder against Mayorga..
You are 100% correct about the Spinks fight. It was a fuckin hoax. So were Spinks' "wins" over Judah and Karmazin.
Brian Kenny actually thought Spinks beat Jermain Taylor for doing nothing, but running and landing nothing meaningful.
Mayorga had something special, if only for a brief amount of time and Don King, Spinks, the ref and those judges robbed him.
After that he just went for the biggest paycheck possible and said fuck it.
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"
Mayorga was a big welterweight and strong and he threw with reckless abandon BUT Floyd is just so precise with his counter punches and his speed is on another level and as the old saying goes "defense wins championships". Mayorga could have tried the rough stuff with Floyd but we all know how that ends up for guys who are not solid technical fighters guys like Gatti or Hatton or Ortiz. That's why I think a guy who can fight a little rough but still box would give Floyd the most trouble guys like Cotto or JLC were closer in their attempts than the pure pressure/roughhouse fighters because they could box a little.
I was a huge fan of Mayorga and he was one of the most effective pure brawlers in boxing, when you consider the quality of opposition he beat or at least should have beat/gave a tough fight to. He was one of a kind with big balls.
That being said, I have no illusions that Floyd would have stood toe to toe with him, knocked him out or even hurt him.
Floyd would have avoided those big sweeping punches and counter punched/pot shotted his way to a wide decision victory.
It very well could have been a boring affair and I'm sure Floyd would have been on his bicycle, but I just can't see Mayorga getting to Floyd.
