Default Prime Vargaz - Prime Mayorga 154 Who wins?

These two fighters are about to meet in the ring but we all agree that they are both shot and Vargaz has already said that this is his last fight. I know this would be better to judge after they fought, but whats the fun in that?

Both of these guys had a REALLY short primes but basically the Mayorga who was undisputed WW champion against Vargaz pre-Tito.

    Thoughts?

Did Mayorga have a prime ,LOL. He has never been much to me ,he just had Vernons number. Even at that from Vernons last time out I think he would take Mayorga apart now.

I think a prime Vargas would destroy a "prime" Mayorga in two rounds. I think at this point I give Mayorga a punchers chance at best.

Two rounds Man that's harsh. Mayorga can take a punch. I do agree with the rest and think Vargas would beat him but not as one sidedly as you suggest.

I have to agree with Landon on this one I can not really remember Mayorgas prime lol....Actually thats not true I remember him starching six heads Lewis in their rematch when Andrew was thought highly of....That was Mayorgas first title win....

I have to go with a Prime Vargas on this one...Fernando was a hard hard hitter who seemed to have the better jaw.....

In all actuality IMO Vargas mind set went before his skill's.....He never recovered fully from the Trinidad beating

Good points, in his prime, Vargas was a decent boxer/puncher. Yes I recall when 6 Heads took apart a decent James Page to win the WBA WW title. Then Ricardo beat up 6 Heads.

And whatever was left of Vargas after his Tito fight, was gone after Oscar beat him up. Early in that fight though, it looked like Vargas was too strong for Oscar.

I thought that as well, I was a fan of Vargas. He was such an intelligent fighter..he could adapt to peoples styles and use it to his advantage. His let down was kinda the 'Zab Judah syndrome'. He just couldn't seem to stay focused for the whole fight and would let the other fighter get in his head in the latter stages. He had Felix where he wanted him after being downed in the first 30 seconds but couldn't maintain it down the stretch, same in the De La Hoya fight. Shame really.

I don't really like either guy much but I'd like to say,I think Mayorga's prime was at 147. He had endless stamina, good chin and great power. He was wild, sloppy but effective. I think that Mayorga would beat most versions' of Vargas. Remember,Forrest was coming off back to back wins over SSM,whom he had dropped and Mayorga laughed at his punches. Forrest has a great jab too but it did not effect Mayorga.

Fernando has good fundamentals, great chin but I'm not sure how he would handle pressure. He could be broken down mentally.I also think Tito ruined both guys.

He looked good against Oscar at first but was overwhelmed....By that time though I think Vargas had started to rely too much on just power alone

Vargas was rushed along a bit into big fights he was not ready for...Think about it...He has been in the sport 10 years and still only has 30 fights...He took on Tito in his 21st fight when Tito was P4P

I agree neither fighter was the same since the Trinidad loss
