Here's a good "how Maidana did it" video.
I used to think Floyd would have it easy next time to just keep out of range and box but this points out a few interesting things.

He makes some good points but he ignores some things as well. In a 7 minute video he can't put in Floyd taking one step right? When Floyd is supposed to be avoiding the right hand, not one step right? Backwards is not the only option, he ignored the other to see what he wanted to see.
I'm in no way saying Floyd is fully capable of moving like a gazelle anymore, I don't know. Let's see the rematch.
But to take the time to put together a very nice compilation like that and ignore the obvious seems like painting a picture not observing a landscape.
Well, agreed. And it doesn't show a lot of clear and flush Maidana hits either, which actually goes against the intention of the video, but it does point out that it wasn't just Floyd 100% "letting" him push him against the ropes.
I was tempted to believe that but after watching this I think it won't be as easy. I like this guy's analyses because, even though he seems to be splitting hairs, he shows how "bad" boxers aren't that bad.
Like you said, the rematch. And I do hope they do it.
BTW how can he neutralise that looping overhand right anyway? The shoulder roll isn't much use against it.
I wanna see a video analyzing Maidana "touching the balls".
There are numerous ways to neutralize any one punch but my suggestion when not circling would be to use range in a different manner. That looping overhand right can't be used from outside or inside. It's a between punch. So if I was in his corner I'd have Floyd use the body jab more to keep Maidana away and when Maidana closes I'd have Floyd step all the way in so there is no middle ground fighting. Step all the way to Maidana, use the uppercut to the belly, nudge for a little room then short right. The shoulder roll is actually very good for infighting. (See James Toney) But that sequence is assuming the ref doesn't allow much holding. Either way stepping in eliminates that looping overhand.
Yeah. Maidana presented a lot of problems. Awareness will help Floyd in a rematch. He was too quick to bend over and right thinking Maidana would finish closing the gap, he should have done it himself. Maidana took those openings to chop away. Can't blame the man if some shots ended up behind Floyds head. I mean, they're illegal so you sort of can blame him but, it's a fight. Sometimes you just hit whatever is there to hit.
