    Default My home Town

Tell me about your home town. If you want

    I'll go first

I live in Bristol, South West of England. Here

Bristol is the biggest manufacturer of balloons in THE WORLD!!!. Ribena was invented here, as was IMDB. Blackbeard lived here, as does Carole Vorderman . The first bungee jump took place off of the Clifton Suspension bridge. JK Rowling was born here. Waterside Plaza NYC was built on the ruins of Bristol. The HMV dog was from Bristol. Nipper. Bristol makes 25% of the Worlds nature documentaries. According top one camera man I know, David Attenborough, is a bit of a dick. Darth Vader was a Bristolian. Bristol is one of the most popular place names in America. The Young ones, Only Fools and horses, Cary Grant, WG Grace, Roni Size, Massive Attack, Portishead (although knobbers from Portishead say they aren't Bristol, their postal (zip) code says otherwise). Banksy is from Bristol and does his thing here, recently left a piece of work on a house in Totterdown which incidentally, has the steepest street in Britain, Vale Street. I cycled up it once.

Bristol has it's own leaning tower. Temple church leans at 1 degree less than the leaning tower of Pisa. We just don't like to show off about it
When God said to the both of us "Which one of you wants to be Sugar Ray?" I guess I didnt raise my hand fast enough

I had a coworker in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 2012 to 2014 named Amy and she was from Bristol, always mentioning the nature documentaries as you have said.

I currently live in Guadalajara, Mexico and am training for fights at a real good boxing gym here in Sapopan. That is our new hometown until I go out on the road to start taking fights in Chiapas, The Caribbean, and South America. Here is my manager, Salvador:

Mil-Town aka BrewCity aka Milwaukee Wisconsin!

Founded by mostly travelling French from region we today call Canada. Because there were more French than British/English- they were less likely to name land afterthemselves.

Each area referenced a tribe like the Milwanee, Pewaunee, Ozaunee Tribes.

The first major migration was from Germany, followed by Polish. Some attribute polish accent as to why the tribal areas now called cities went from Milwaunee to Milwaukee. Peawanee to Pewaukee and Ozaunee to Ozauki county.

Steele Industry rocked. From early 1900s-1970s A.O. Smith, Briggs & Stratton & Tower Automotive provided for automobile manufacturers like Ford, Chrysler to Johnson Controls that provided nationwide for companies.

Anatgonists against Miwaukee's social system of demanding that businesses provide (be regulated) for their sewerage, no desire to have plumbing, would be relabeled with a negative connotation "sewerage socialism"

Because Milwaukee leaders in the early 1910s wanted to ensure health hazards were minimized the press of that day branded anyone wanting to have sewers in their city, must be sewer-socialism.

By 1940s Milwaukee had several decades under their belt as the #1 city for Beer. Milwaukee lost her status as#1 City for Beer in the world in 1981. From Pabst to Miller, they would leave the country.

By the 1950s a black migration occurred, my grandparents came in search of jobs as stated above. Almost all of my aunts & uncles that worked in these unionized companies like Allis Chalmer, all of them owned their own homes, paid their children's tuition in full. Today their kids era (mine) we work for no unions, we are all in debt, and just 1/3 of us own our own homes.

Milwaukee is home to a 11 day lakefront festival known as SummerFest. About 30 stages -with worldwide acts performing all day from noon- midnight.
I once saw in a single day there, Carlos Santana at the Miller High Life Stage, R&B Band Cameo at the Leinenkugel stage, I walked pass Weird Al Yankovic performing in the process. I missed Def leopard and the main act that night was Prince.

Also known as the city of festivals along the same lakefront be it PolishFest, German Fest, Italiana, African World Festival, Asian Fest, Indian Summer, you name it from July-September these festivals occur along Lake Michigan. Except Arab Fest they got cancelled from 2002 until....

Today it is considered one of the top 3 segregated cities in America. Puerto Ricans dont live where Mexicans do vice versa. Whites are separated by ethnicity. Germans live mostly in suburbs of Germantown. Polish lived mostly on the south side, now known as South Milwaukee - they broke away from Milwaukee to escape taxation I think. College kids, yuppies, hippies & liberals live on the east side. rightwingers move to areas like Menominee Falls (from Menominee tribe) or Germantown (home of 4 winning PowerBall) lottery.
Jewish live mostly pass 60th street north heading toward Wauwatosa. Poorer whites left to suburb of Waukesha where a large number of Mexicans are moving as well.

TV Sitcom Happy Days & Laverne & Shirly was supposedly in Milwaukee, where the Fonz has a bronze statue of him on the lake front.
Halle Berry's 2nd last husband singer Erik Benet is from Milwaukee.

The documentary called Pimp Chronicles, begins its journey between Milwaukee & Chicago, where the big Pimp who started the game was known as Iceberg Slim.

Even though Gerald McCellan was born in Illinois, his career began in Milwaukee and often fought there. Lou Al Cinder? Kareem Abdul Jabar gave Milwaukee Bucks their only title.

Loads of crusty woke protesters were rioting there the other day, weren’t they?

I think They were protesting against a new criminal justice bill, and one of the things that would become illegal would be damaging or defacing statues - like one of Colston that was chucked into the river.

They’re not the only unhappy ones ..... pigeons are up in arms, as they won’t be able to shit all over them.

In fact, they are so furious that they are planning a coo.

Yeah kicked off big time in a area. As I guess with most protests, arguments about protesting during lock down aside there were a bunch protesting the bill, then there were a smaller bunch who just wanted to cause trouble.

Don't get me wrong I've not got a great deal of time for the coppers, but these cunts were trying to set a riot van on fire whilst it was full of pigs. There's a great clip that pretty much sums up the whole thing. Some scumbag slag with dreads gets in the face of a copper, gets told to fuck off, her scumbag mate grabs her by the dreads and starts yanking her about, then it cuts to her scumbag mate claiming that the pigs yanked her hair out

It did make for some great reading on Posset pages, the local Portishead Facebook group. I live there now but I'm very much an outsider . "Oh the disgraceful behaviour of "The people of Bristol". I didnt do fuck all!! Normally the most excitement they get is the bins outside Costa looking like they're more than three quarters full.

I live in Guiseley which is famous because I live there I suppose.

It’s also the birthplace of the original Harry Ramsdens fish and chip restaurant which opened in 1928. Its now the Wetherby Whaler and the fish is amazing. I’ll be going tomorrow night - can walk there in about a minute. Not sure who on here might have been but you used to queue for ages in the 80s to get in. Coach trips were regular. In 1952 10,000 people queued for cheap fish and chips

Harry Corbett also played piano in the restaurant in the 30s and he is most famous for giving us Sooty the bear.

I can also see Ilkley Moor out of my back window and walk up there in about an hour. I know a song about that....

If this works this is the queue in 1952. My local pub in the background that’s still there

Works both ways. I saw all the outrage in the broadsheets with the assertion that Coppers had had their arms broken and punctured lungs etc. Then a few days later a tiny paragraph inside admitting that actually there were no broken bones or punctured lungs for the Police at all. My little brother lives in Brizzle now with his twin sisters, and he was telling me that after taking part in the sit down protest the old Bill came over and started hitting seated protestors with truncheons and riot shields and that was his cue to get up and leave. He is only 30, the same age as my stepson, but already his A/S makes him look like a question mark, so he is not about to fight anyone.

I always loved gigging in Bristol in the mid/late nineties and was usually fine except for a massive fight at the Ropewalk once when us 'Crusties' had a bit of a fall out with some bikers who were hitting on one of the roadies girlfriends Was a bit hairy visiting my mate in St Pauls for Raves and Squat parties then too.

    Great city though.

Some great Fish and Chips down here with so much fishing, but you are 55 miles from the sea mate

I am sure it is lush though.

Sooty and Soo get married. The marriage only lasted one week.
Soo is divorcing Sooty on the grounds that he's giving her the silent treatment.
