It will happen and the only reason it never happened this year was because Fury wanted an easy pay day first.

Glad there finally will be an undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.

The stage is now set for Francis to KO Fury and the Usyk fight will not happen.

Thinking exactly the same. I can't remember a fight ever been signed when a champion already has an up and coming one.

It is a non title fight Fury has so he could get knocked out and still face Usyk.

If that happens then surely the titles would become vacant ?

I suppose you have to give credit to Frank Warren, he has a far better record of judging boxers ability than Hearn. He backed Fury against Vlad, then again against that over hyped Wilder who couldn't be beat could he (beat 3 times by Fury)? Now he's backed the Chinaman who did a Ruiz on the juggernaut (twice). I think Hearn picks for media exposure and bums on seats rather than ability, and he's got a stable of very nice media friendly heavyweights who are second division.

Hearn has always been more sizzle than steak.

This is very good to hear. Though I'm tempted to hold off on popping a cork until they're both standing in their respected corners prior to the bell

the announcement seems conveniently timed to promote tyson's upcoming event. how many times have we heard contracts are signed only for the fight to fall through? tyson really going to fight a couple of months after this event? i'll wait until i see them in the ring

Its amazing how an announcement can turn heads towards a fight that would otherwise would have not had that much interest. I think you are correct here. Its all to do with promotion..

Oleksandr Usyk vs Tyson Fury looks like it might have to happen later than the original proposed date.

The pair have already signed to fight for the undisputed heavyweight world titles and the expectation is that they will clash on December 23 or in January.

Usyk may need more time to prepare, as he said on his YouTube channel: "I can't say that everything's OK, but I'm fine.

"Some wounds, old injuries need to be healed. Everything's under control.

"I do my training sessions everyday, but I need 14 weeks for my camp. It would be enough time for me.

"The first weeks I'm doing my work that helps me to get ready for the training camp. Then I'm working hard for the next 12 weeks."

Fourteen weeks from now, however, would not be until the end of January at the earliest, essentially ruling out a December clash.

And it could be even later if 'The Gypsy King' suffers an injury in his next fight with Francis Ngannou that will take place on October 28 in Saudi Arabia.

Although fans already had their suspicions that the fight might not be happening until April after Fury slipped up in a recent interview with Derek Chisora.

'Del Boy' described Fury as the baddest man on the planet, but Fury responded: "We're not there yet Derek, but I will be the baddest man on the planet come April..."
