the announcement seems conveniently timed to promote tyson's upcoming event. how many times have we heard contracts are signed only for the fight to fall through? tyson really going to fight a couple of months after this event? i'll wait until i see them in the ring

Its amazing how an announcement can turn heads towards a fight that would otherwise would have not had that much interest. I think you are correct here. Its all to do with promotion..

Oleksandr Usyk vs Tyson Fury looks like it might have to happen later than the original proposed date.

The pair have already signed to fight for the undisputed heavyweight world titles and the expectation is that they will clash on December 23 or in January.

Usyk may need more time to prepare, as he said on his YouTube channel: "I can't say that everything's OK, but I'm fine.

"Some wounds, old injuries need to be healed. Everything's under control.

"I do my training sessions everyday, but I need 14 weeks for my camp. It would be enough time for me.

"The first weeks I'm doing my work that helps me to get ready for the training camp. Then I'm working hard for the next 12 weeks."

Fourteen weeks from now, however, would not be until the end of January at the earliest, essentially ruling out a December clash.

And it could be even later if 'The Gypsy King' suffers an injury in his next fight with Francis Ngannou that will take place on October 28 in Saudi Arabia.

Although fans already had their suspicions that the fight might not be happening until April after Fury slipped up in a recent interview with Derek Chisora.

'Del Boy' described Fury as the baddest man on the planet, but Fury responded: "We're not there yet Derek, but I will be the baddest man on the planet come April..."

Speaking to Reuters from his training camp in Valencia, Spain, Usyk said the date should be decided next week.

"It could be February and I would very much like it to be February," he said, through an interpreter.
"I was ready to fight on the 23rd but since Fury got some injuries in the last fight, a knockdown, then probably it will be postponed to next year."

The long-awaited on-off fight would crown the first undisputed champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999 and the first of the four-belt era, and Usyk made clear he would take the delay in his stride.

"I'll just do more technical work. Technically, nothing changes. I just have a little more time for some additional tasks, and that's it," he said.

"I don't think about Tyson Fury at all... I think about myself, about my team, about my family. I don't need to think about my opponent. I just need to be with him, fight and that's it."

"Everything I do today -- my achievements, my victories, my efforts are focused to honour my country and my family," he said.

Usyk fought Anthony Joshua in Jeddah in August last year, retaining his titles in a "Rage on the Red Sea" rematch of the fight in London in September 2021 where he took the Briton's belts, and he carried a nation's hopes with him that night too.

"The first person who was an example for me, and who I wanted to be like and copied his behaviour, was my late father who told me that I could do it," he said.

"When I stood in the circle of the great stars in Saudi Arabia, I looked at the sky and I thought 'I know that you see me where I stand, I know that you see where I am and what I do, and I am grateful to God and to you for motivating me and bringing me here'."

The example of Muhammad Ali, a boyhood hero, provides further inspiration as he seeks to follow in the footsteps of greats.

"A man who fought for what he believed in, fought for his rights, for his loved ones, for the rights of his people, for his faith. And everything he did it for the people, for the world," said Usyk.

The Ukrainian hoped also to play a bigger role in developing the sport.

Usyk has co-founded Ready to Fight , a digital social platform to connect boxers with coaches, managers, agents, sparring partners, sports medicine professionals, promoters, sponsors, and fans.

He said the idea came long ago when he had problems finding reliable sparring partners and adequate training facilities abroad.

"This platform gives far more opportunities for the athlete and a lot fewer opportunities for those that want to deceive them," said Usyk.

He told Second Out: 'I never said my son was in decline because he's not.

'It's the people around him who ain't up to much. His training's in decline and his camp's in a bigger decline.

    'It's not a camp, it's a circus.'

John Fury added" 'I saw him in the gym in Saudi, watched him spar three or four rounds with a couple of kids - I knew then it was gonna be a hard night's work.

'I thought, "What have you been doing?" I was alarmed, I still am.

'Unless you're gonna get the eye of the tiger back and go back to the old ways and get the hunger back - sweat, blood, s*** and tears.

'Because Usyk's doing that - sweat, blood, s*** and tears.

'And he's got disciplined, professional, great people around him, and I don't think Tyson has that. I really don't.'

Fury CLEARLY didn't train for Ngannou.... he was clearly fat and sloppy looking. Even for his standard.

Anthony Joshua has tipped Oleksandr Usyk to beat Tyson Fury in their undisputed heavyweight title clash but says he would prefer to face his compatriot in the future.

"It's going to be a good fight," Joshua told Sky Sports News on Monday as the date was confirmed for his bout with Ngannou.

    "I think Usyk edges it.
"I'm not really bothered. I just want them both to be healthy and leave the ring. It's a tough game. So that's all I can ask for, that they leave the ring healthy.

"In terms of how it goes, it doesn't affect my life, in a way. I'm not like one of those fans that's starts crying because someone won or lost. It is what it is. Tomorrow comes around. Good luck to both of them."

In terms of which of the current champions he would rather face, Joshua added: "Probably the opportunity to fight Tyson Fury. I think that's a better fight for the fans and myself."

Just give me a clear winner

    No controversy.

Just give me a clear winner

I dunno man but I got funny business smells or something fked up happening in the fight. Be it from John Fury or Tyson. I just got a feeling their is gonna be some MASSIVE talking point. Duckson may do some illegal crap to gain an advantage (with or without points taken). Hoping for a 'fair but firm' type of ref to keep it clean.

Fury was a disgrace for ducking Usyk for so long. It's the oldest trick in the boxing book when you don't want a fight. it's called PRICING YOURSELF OUT and Fury did that by nitpicking, changing the goalpost, jerking the other side around then when they get fed up and move on. Fury can say "Look he didnt want it. They're cowards !!"

Usyk and his team's track record is impeccable. They have a reputation as being the easiest to deal with people in the whole of boxing. They're the opposite of the slimy con men Warren type.

Fury did not want the fight because despite all the talk of Usyk being a middleweight. They knew DAM WELL that Uysk would be a MASSIVE challenge for Fury. That's why Fury's eyes lit up when the suggestion of fighting the dosser for a 4th time came up or fighting an MMA fighter who had a 0-0-0 boxing record came.

I just feel that, throughout Fury's career, he's not faced and beaten enough top level fighters for me to gauge how good he really is and because of that and the recent oppositions he's faced makes me think that he won't be able deal with the jump in skills (IQ, footwork, angles and workrate) that Uysk will bring to the table. But still the hype around Fury grew in a disproportionate way compared to his achievements. The man has been holding up the HW division for the last half decade and a bit. Where as Usyk is the more proven commodity.

This is an incredibly difficult style matchup for Fury.

And fury has aged himself beyond his best years when he was taking part in less meaningful bouts. Yes Usyk is older but Usyk lives the life. My sense is that Usyk beats him, probably actually fairly comfortably. Fury couldn't outbox Wallin and Ngannou, how will he outbox the Olympic gold medallist?

I don’t think it will be an entertaining fight in fact the fight could well turn out to be a snooze fest. And I actually want Tyson to win (as do the money men in Boxing) so Usyk has to win beyond any doubt to get this. He's not gonna get ANY favours if it goes to the cards. And I think he'll do just that. This'll be a one-sided schooling worse than either Joshua fight frankly. Fury will be blowing hard by the championship rounds where Usyk will still be super-active, Usyk might even get a late TKO on accumulation and Fury being exhausted. Usyk is far more skilled than Fury and that'll show as the fight progresses.

USYK on points. Fury won't catch him and Usyk will have a a big target in Fury to hit. Usyk won't hurt Fury, but he won't be able to stop Fury unless Fury comes up with an injury- which is a possibility, but a remote possibility.
