Re: Quick intro and query
Welcome if someone hasn't welcomed you already.
Looks like you're very commited to your training considering you've only been going for 8 weeks so that's great. It actually sounds like you've got all the staples in there.
What type of drills are you looking at?
Fitness type things?
Slip bag drills?
Shaddow boxing?
Do you go to a gym?
How would your standard day go and your standard training. i.e. road work in morning, afternoon training, 10 minutes speed bag, 20 mins shadowboxing, 10 min slip work, 20 mins plyo's... That sort of things... I'm sure we'll be able to fine tune it and come up with a good routine you can stick to to maximize your training time.
I'm not sure what sort of drills your looking at? Do you have a trainer or just learning and training yourself at home?
Re: Quick intro and query
Oh I forgot to say, good work also in having a look around and absorbing some of the information already posted. Some people just come in and ask questions that perhaps people can answer, but their has been some great great discussions in here and going back quite a few pages you'll find a lot of good advice, so don't hesitate to search back whenever you have the time as you'll learn from a lot of very knowledgable people who don't bother giving crappy advice.
Re: Quick intro and query
Thanks for the reply.
Yeah im in a gym but its so damn busy with active amateur fighters that aside from correcting glaring errors, you don't get a huge deal of one on one coaching. Saying that sparring is carefully supervised, I always do at least 3 rounds on the hook and jabs with feedback. The fighters are friendly and happily dispense advice.
Despite the fact that ive only been in this gym for 7 weeks I have spent several years on and off at home learning/applying weight shifting principles like the falling step, pivoting feet on hooks etc. Like I said I have Dempseys book, Ned Beaumont etc I love reading about boxing technique in particualr defence now.
A typical week of training would go something like this...
Mon- AM light shadow boxing concentrating mainly on footwork, PM Boxing gym for 1.5 -2hrs. This would be 15-20 mins of skipping, heavy/double end bag then either sparring or pad work. No speed bag but I use the one in the regular gym I go to. I generally finish the nite (am last to leave lol) with slip bag or other head movement drills, but am new to these.
Tues- AM 3-4 mile run including hills or sprints/bursts stretching afterwards regular gym doing punching plyometrics, ab work perhaps some jump rope
Wed- Boxing gym as Mon
Thurs- As Tues with shadow boxing in front of a mirror as well and perhaps some skipping tune ups and some slip bag drills later in the house.
Fri- Boxing gym
Sat- As Tues and Thurs
Sun- Shadow boxing with some stretching and odds and ends like situps clap pressups.
Obviously this is a fairly ideal week for me but it is accurate. Im not doin a large amount of running compared to what i uded to but I felt exhausted so use it to supplement now.
Im aiming to spar at least every time im there. Is that too much? The advice I would be looking for is mainly for defence. Also how often should I shadow box, bearing in mind what I can practice is fairly limited.
Re: Quick intro and query
Looks a busy routine should stand you in good stead. Get yourself to Enzo's gym he'll make a champion of you. :)
