how do you rate your nations olympic boxing prospects??
We have quite a strong outfit going over to beijing this year with 8 fighters.
Frankie gavin at lightweight is probably the best prospect, talented lightweight that should medal in a tough division (just like in pro), gold may just be asking a bit too much but he should definetly be able to make at least a bronze.
Heavyweight david price is another real hope for glory, super heavyweight following in the footsteps of A-farce, again gold will probably be out of his reach but a real chance to medal in a weight category that seems pretty open from the outset.
Billy joe saunders is another decent prospect that can definetely medal if he turns up and puts in a couple of great performances.
After that you really would be hoping more than anything else

I am really looking forward to seeing how Rau'Shee Warren (In Blue) does

Also Luis Yanez should be holding a medal when all is said and done.
Russia has a super strong combatent in Tichtchenko, he should be gold without a doubt.

Hey Killersheep , this kid Warren , is good man , i could see that have great consistent combinations , speed and giratory movement , seem to hit hard too ....................
Re: how do you rate your nations olympic boxing prospects??
P.R. now just have 5 boxers to the Olympics Games , they are greats , we have the McWilliams Arroyo brothers one in 112 pnds. and other in 119 pnds. , Jorge Pedraza in 130 pnds. , Jonathan Gonzalez in 147 pnds. and the last great one with 19 years old 6`6" in 180 pnds. , we consider him like the next prospect in LHW , strong and with a consistence Jabs....Carlos Negron..............
Re: how do you rate your nations olympic boxing prospects??
The Arroyo brothers are legit, I've liked what I've seen from both of them.
Of course Warren is our best chance at a medal, but I also really like Gary Russell Jr. especially if there is no Guillermo Rigondeaux. Also Demetrius Andrade has been on an absolute tear winning gold at the World Amateur Championships last year and not ever being threatened really.
Here are the finals

Re: how do you rate your nations olympic boxing prospects??
If I'm not mistaken (which I usually am mistaken)
I think the US has 9 entrants, only missing out on Super Heavy.
Re: how do you rate your nations olympic boxing prospects??
Sadly i rarely (if ever) hear anything about the canadian team.
Maybe Youngblood will have some info when he comes back. Or if anyone else knows anything, let me know.
Re: how do you rate your nations olympic boxing prospects??
We don't have a light heavyweight either as Christopher Downs didn't qualify. Pretty surprising considering light heavy is where the US has picked up the most golds including Andre Ward's in 04.
Downs might be one to watch as a pro though, 6'4 and can use his height pretty well. Never saw his loss though.

Adam Trupish is the only boxer to qualify for Canada as was the case 4 years ago. Never seen him fight though.

Thanks dude.
That sucks, but i guess its primarily because amateur boxing isnt promoted very well here.
I miss the old days when we had some decent fighters for me to root for. A couple of them (Billy Irwin and Mike Strange) were from Niagara Falls which is close to me.
Re: how do you rate your nations olympic boxing prospects??
Yes Canada gives next to no funds to it's amateur program and that's how I know who Trupish is because he has spoken out quite a bit about how little funds they receive.

Ya its pathetic really. We are a fairly rich country and yet we dont seem to give a shit. Its like that for most of our amateur sports.
