Hopkins Vs. Tarver & Pavlik
I have had a few different conversations with people I know outside of this forum and all of them think I am wrong for what I present as a valid thought. That thought is whether Hopkins was juiced for the Pavlik fight.
I do not want it to be true but a part of me can't believe what I witnessed on Saturday night. Why couldn't Bernard do that against Winky or Jermaine Taylor? He looked great in the Tarver fight just when things looked the worst for him and he looked great against Pavlik when it was again history making time.
Is this just a man and his will to win? For me it doesn't pass the smell test.
I am posting this here because I don't want to insight a riot just get thoughts from the folks who thoughts are worth getting.
Re: Hopkins Vs. Tarver & Pavlik
Dont think there was to much amiss. Think the weight nulified Pavliks Strengths, and put everything on skill which Hopkins has. Everybody on something today. The Bottom line Horses for Courses, one had a good day the other didnt.

Mate, that never occurred to me, but it's quite interesting
Re: Hopkins Vs. Tarver & Pavlik
your not alone, I mentioned it on one of threads and no one ran with it.. I mean I have no doubt that Hopkins skill and technique did the most for him but there is the part of him never looking tired and throwing almost 600 punches, which is up from his usual 200 ;D
Re: Hopkins Vs. Tarver & Pavlik
Winky was hard to hit for Hopkins, they battled mostly on the inside and Winky kept coming forward behind the jab which will make it a tough night on any fighter. Still, I don't think Bernard really slowed down in that one.
Against Taylor it was that he didn't start early enough and tried to let the fight come to him for to long both times, in neither fight did he gas out he actually had his best moments at the end.
Against Calzaghe he had some stamina issues I do think, but nothing all that alarming. He took the 5 minutes or whatever but that was just because he was slowing down the fight and the momentum more then anything imo and it worked.
Also, againts Pavlik and Tarver, their will was gone in the first 7 rounds. Neither had any shot at winning that fight and they both knew it and Hopkins was able to do whatever he pleased, there was nothing either thought they could win with. Against Calzaghe, Calzaghe obviously never quit and that is a bit mentally draining I'm sure to have to keep fighting in those late rounds especially with such a high paced guy like Joe knowing that you still have to secure the fight.
I don't think any alarms go off when talking about juice or anything, it's just a case of they were different fights against different fighters.
Re: Hopkins Vs. Tarver & Pavlik
Pavlik, was all straight lines all night, when in distance He was to wide. His back foot couldnt see Bernard.

Scrap, in your opinion how good is/was Calzaghe? Do you think he is up there with Toney, Hopkins RJJ, McCallum etc or do you think he is overrated/overprotected? Really interested on your view
Re: Hopkins Vs. Tarver & Pavlik
H its a funny one, Ten years ago He was better than He is now, His Hands werent Fucked. He has a remarkable sense of distance, whats called a Good eye, technicaly He is not very good, but is aware of situations and can read a Fighter, being a Southpaw Helps with distance. I think someone like Winky would give Him fits if Winky was a true S/Middle. Thats why McCullam would be to small at his best Toney and Hopkins are pickums. Jones would have beaten Him I feel, still might do its a Funny one, still might have one good one left. ;D

Cheers for that mate
Re: Hopkins Vs. Tarver & Pavlik
I think it's just the greatness of ol' Snaggle Toof.
He's just like when people said Duran was done and bam! he beat Barkley.
Or when Carbajal sparked out Arce late in the fight to beat the younger and much faster fighter.
And like I said when the fight was 1st announced it was a stupid idea for a kid who just came on to the boxing world and is wanting to become the big draw (I believe after the Miranda & JT fights he was on his way) to go and fight someone like Hopkins.
I personally think that's bad management and def. the wrong step to have taken.

Why?
Cause Ol' Saint-Bernard aint gonna let Pavlik look good. Ol' Saint-Bernard never makes anyone look good even when they beat him.
Even if Pavlik wins, I don't see how it will help him boost this superstar title his management wants him to reach.
Re: Hopkins Vs. Tarver & Pavlik
Snaggle Toof ;D.
Hey Scrap ,while we are on the subject if someone does use something as an enhancing boost what is it they mostly use exactly? a coke based substance?
Is caffiene banned in some larger doses too? lots of Ginseng really gives you a long boost too if mixed with sugar. I'm wondering what the limits are and is the line drawn just past natural medicine or is anything in large quantities ban able?
