Alfredo Angulo Needs an Opponent, Danny Perez Pulls Out
Danny Perez (34-5, 17KOs) has withdrawn from his upcoming fight with junior middleweight prospect Alfredo Angulo (14-0, 11KOs) scheduled for the February 14 HBO televised tripleheader from the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida.
Perez is the second opponent to pull out in less than two weeks. Last week, former two division champion Ricardo Mayorga pulled out after a reported injury claim, which turned out to be a move for more money.
Two stories are going around about Perez, and Angulo's promoter, Gary Shaw, has heard them both.
"I heard two stories. One person said he has problems making the weight and another person said it has to do with money," Shaw told BoxingScene.com. "I am hunting for a replacement."
Still scheduled to take place, Nate Campbell will defend his WBO/IBF lightweight titles against Ali Funeka and Sergio Martinez defends the WBC interim-junior middleweight title against Kermit Cintron.

I'll get in there and take a dive for $10,000
Re: Alfredo Angulo Needs an Opponent, Danny Perez Pulls Out
Why don't Team Angulo give the slot to Craig McEwan... I think McEwan is also currently training for a fight and will surely grab the opportunity if offered to him...

It was on the Enrique Ornales-Norberto Bravo under card on Solo Boxeo. Shouldn't be to hard to find. McEwan is crap

McEwan could be some undefeated bum and it's for Angulo to expose... Angulo needs an opponent now and I think McEwan is willing to slug it out with Angulo... On paper, McEwan and Angulo is fairly matched:
Craig McEwan - 26 years old with 12 wins (7 KOs), 0 loss and 0 draw.
Alfredo Angulo - 26 years old with 14 wins (11 KOs), 0 loss and 0 draw.
And below is the news I posted last November 2008:
"Last month McEwan was mentioned as a possible opponent for streaking junior middleweight prospect Alfred Angulo for a proposed spot on the Hatton-Malignaggi undercard.
“We accepted the fight right away,” Roach said. “Angulo doesn’t want us."
;)

Roach is just about brain dead. His comments shouldn't be acknowledge any more. Yes Angulo and McEwan records look similar. But that's on paper. Look deeper.
Angulo last 5 opponents
Andrey Tsurkan 26-3 TKO 10
Richard Gutierrez 24-1 TKO 5
Ricardo Cortes 24-1 TKO 1
Archak TerMeliksetian 16-5 TKO 1
Emmanuel Gonzalez 9-0 TKO 2
McEwan last 5 opponents
Hilario Lopez 10-5 W 8
Juan Carlos Sanchez 0-0 TKO 3
Erik Esquivel 16-6-1 W 8
Alfredo Contreras 6-2-1 W 8
Anthony Cannon 4-6 W 6
Angulo has faced the better competition. By far. Not only that. Look at the results. Angulo has been destroying his opponents. McEwan is struggling just to win. McEwan is crap. Angulo destroys him in 1. Fight services no purpose. It would be a step back wards for Angulo. I'm shocked McEwan even has a fan.

I agree with you VD, this will be a stepback for Angulo... but if he can't find an opponent, I think McEwan will be there willing...
Team Angulo consider at one time fighting McEwan before, maybe they can consider him again this time around... ;)

Re: Alfredo Angulo Needs an Opponent, Danny Perez Pulls Out
apparently its probably gonna be Cosme Rivera :-\
Re: Alfredo Angulo Needs an Opponent, Danny Perez Pulls Out
i hate when big fighters end up replacing decent opponents with very ordinary ones.
just postpone for a later day rather than put us all through the process of seeing a 2round blowout!!

You can't do that when you have a contract with a major TV station.
Re: Alfredo Angulo Needs an Opponent, Danny Perez Pulls Out
Ishe Smith would be a good replacement IMO

Not half bad that one,Would love to see what Angulo could do against wetsy-betsy Ishe and his movement.Tough one on short notice.
Surely they can do better than Cosme Rivera :shinner:,we'd hope so anyway?
Re: Alfredo Angulo Needs an Opponent, Danny Perez Pulls Out
HBO wouldn't accept Ishe apparently
Guess they think Cosme will make more of an action fight
