Jesus Chavez vs Michael Katsidis Can Someone Tell Me About This Fight ?

I was away during this time and wern't watching boxing really, and i forgot all about this fight and was looking forward to it. If Jesus Chavez had anything left, did Jesus Chavez look as shot as the scores suggested ? and did Michael Katsidis look any good ?

Yes, Katsidis broke him down with his usual savage incoming style and Chavez had no answers. Finally, he just said that was enough after round 7. Chavez retired from boxing after the fight, but it was clear to me that ever since the tragic Levander Johnson, he really has never been the same. The scores at stoppage were 70-64, 69-64, 68-65 all for Katsidis.

El Matador finished with a 44-5 record abnd a couple of World title belt. He always fough the best.

Total respect for Jesus Chavez.

Yes, Katsidis broke him down with his usual savage incoming style and Chavez had no answers. Finally, he just said that was enough after round 7. Was a barnstormer, but like Holmcall says Chavez was never the same after the Johnson fight, he didn't have that extra bite any more & understandably so. Prior to that his only major losses came to ATGs Floyd Mayweather Jr & Erik Morales. He also lost to Carlos Gerena, but I've heard from a few people who've seen the fight that he was robbed against the more experienced prospect, which he avenged years later. His fight with Mayweather was my probably my personal FOTY for 2001, & he remains with Castillo the only man to drag PBF into the trenches, & he gave everything he had in that fight to the point where his long-term health would of been in danger had he gone out for that 10th round.

I know this isn't a Chavez thread, but bringing this up just reminds me what a warrior he was, & I think if Johnson hadn't died he would have had too much for Diaz & Katsidis. Anyone who thinks a true warrior can't quit needs only look at Chavez to have that corrected

For fighting with one arm for almost half the fight with Erik Morales, he done excellent i thought he made it pretty close. He also done excellent against Floyd Mayweather Jr, the uppercuts that snapped his head back in the 9th round were brutal. Shame what happened to Jesus Chavez always liked him as a fighter he reminds me of Juan Diaz.

IMO Carlos Hernandez should of gotten the win against Chavez

Chavez looked he's out of shape and simply ran out of gas. Kats didn't give him a breathing room at all.
