Is Mayweather ruining the sport of boxing?
I think I can easily recall a few fighters who would name a few opponents from time to time who they wanted to fight. This is ordinary practice UNTIL YOU ARE ONTOP OF THE DIVISION!
What on earth would possess Mayweather to make and break all these fights, adn calling out these top 20 divisional fighters, versus top 20 P4P fighters? Saul Alvarez?? Mlignaggi?? Bradley?? C'mon money... there are guys in your division... I Promise!
Demanding blood tests from every fighter now??
And believe you, me. The Mosley fight will NOT go.
But IF (big IF) it does.. Why is Floyd getting the lions share? Cant they just fight for the larger part of the purse? I mean this is NOT WWF wrestling. The winner is To Be Determined for God's sake.
Re: Is Mayweather ruining the sport of boxing?
The fact that we do not have a Mayweather V Pacquaio fight happening in the forseeable future has soured my interest this year. I was convinced we would see two fights this year with a rematch a certainty, Mayweather can go and F*** himself! Boxing is slipping real fast, it is very disappointing.
Re: Is Mayweather ruining the sport of boxing?
Mayweather has the right to ask for whatever he wants, as does any other fighter in the sport. If he is to be opposite another man in the ring, he has every right to make sure that guy is 100% clean as not to risk any serious injury. If the opponent has a problem with taking these tests, so be it. But Mayweather is certainly not out of line asking for them from all his opponents. Mosley has already said he would submit to such testing, so there should be no problem there.
Mayweather also gets the lion's share because he is simply the bigger draw at this moment. If the fight were to happen back when Mayweather first called out Mosley in 99, Mosley would've rightfully gotten the lion's share. Again, it seems Mosley has acknowledged Mayweather is the bigger draw and has no problem with taking the smaller share to make it happen.

Re: Is Mayweather ruining the sport of boxing?
As long as the Networks sign the checks and people pay out the money for a Marquez "name" event as oposed to division top rivals,it'll continue. And not just with Mayweather. We're suckers for this crap. This sport does not revolve around one man.
Re: Is Mayweather ruining the sport of boxing?
I think an argument could be made that Pac is doing it as much damage as PBF. He continuosly gets fighters to come down in weight to fight at catchweight insead of taking them on at their natural weight, including winning a 147 belt fighting at 145. He then knocks back the biggest fight in memory due to a few simple blood tests and costs the fans the fight. His actions dent the reputation of the sport because it seems the number 1 fighter in the game is a drug taker. Not good.
Mayweather isnt helping may i add, but i think its drawing a long bow to say that he alone is ruining boxing by himself.
Re: Is Mayweather ruining the sport of boxing?
I don't see how you can comment too much about it till we see if the Mosley fight goes through. If it does I don't see what there's to complain about unless complaining is just a personal hobby, its the best fight out there outside of Mayweather-Pacquaio and while I don't like how Mayweather and some of his people handled some of the negotiations I don't see how the lions share of the blame would fall on Mayweather for that fight falling apart, I just don't and I'm no Mayweather fan.
As for calling out those guys, he was thinking of a fight to replace the Pacquaio ones, there were no great options out there after Clottey agreed to fight Pacquaio, now that Mosley has fallen in his lap it appears that that's the direction they're going in. What is there to complain about with that?
Except for who gets the larger purse? Seriously, I don't get it. Why first of all would you care? I doubt you're getting a cut and it isn't like Shane's going bankrupt. Second, its just the way of the world, Floyd is the bigger draw and the higher ranked PFP guy, the bigger draw is going to get the bigger purse, its just the way it is. There are so many better things to complain about then Mayweather getting the majority of the purse (dodgy decisions, Zahir Raheem being allowed to wear that crown to the ring, etc.)
Re: Is Mayweather ruining the sport of boxing?
floyd recent damages done to boxing
- retired temporarily when the possible opposition gets tougher
- picked jmm for his comeback fight in a big mismatch fight
- delayed the jmm fight by faking an injury
- unrespectful and unsportsman-like action of not making weight for the jmm fight
- demands additional rules over the present normal rules of boxing commissions that become the root cause of pac-floyd fight falling apart

HAHA so asking for $10,000,000 per pound over weight isnt an addition o the normal rules? Pac started the whole one upmanship game, and when it go too much for him he walked away and walked away looking like a cheater. Another deluded PACTARD!

understand what i stated. did that demand made the fight to fall apart? the weight penalty is not an addition to the rules, it's normal in most fight contracts tho i agree the penalty amount is exuberant and that is to really prevent floyd from messing with the weigh-in weight again. floyd is a proven weigh-in weight rule breaker

so you admit that the fight fell apart because Pacquiao refused to take a perfectly logical drug test?!?

partly yes but the root cause is floyd's additional rules demand over and above the existing normal boxing commission rules

Partly? You gotta remember PBF agreed to Pacs demands, Pac didnt agree to Floyds. Pac walked away and organised another fight first. $10,000,000 per pound is an addition to the normal rules, so Pac was first to play that game. You could easily argue that if he didnt make that ridiculous demand Floyd wouldnt have demanded the drug tests in reply.
Re: Is Mayweather ruining the sport of boxing?
Look mayweather can only do to boxing what "us" the fans allow him to do. It amazes me how much people bitch and cry about the guy yet every fight he's involved winds up being huge. Floyd sucks ??? Then why does pac want to fight him. Why does shane want to fight him. Why is everyone so butt hurt this last fight got canceled. Floyd is just a punk anyway right...who wants to see that. There are so many fighters out there yet the nutz of floyd get ridden by the people that hate him more than any of his own fans. Don't like the guy ?? Quit buying the fights. Quit posting every little think he says or is said about him. He's so hated yet he had his own section here for one of his fights. You all dump money in his pockets beliveing any of these people will beat him and since they won't and can't now everyone hates him.??? If he 's ruining boxing then stop calling on him to save it. The man was retired and he was all people talked about while he was gone. And people still blame him. Freakin amazing !!!!! Switch sides, if pac accused floyd of roids and then floyd gave the same bs excuses pac and his team have, people would put kleenex out of buisness with all the damn crying. Floyd no matter how stupid it is to want to ensure a fair fight was willing to go through the same procedures pac would. Only one person said no. Basically pac didn't want to jump a few hoops for the biggest baddest most lucrative fight of recent history, because of needles ?? Shit how much did they pay him to take needles for those cheap tatts ??? Or did he pay for them ? But yea it's all floyds fault. Not for this fight, but all of boxing. Wow. I almost guarantee one of you could find a way to blame floyd for aids, katrina, and hati if given enough time too.
Re: Is Mayweather ruining the sport of boxing?
He ain't doing boxing any fucking favours, that's for sure.
