Edwin Valero - An old-school throwback.
Quite rightly so, Valero seems to be the name on every boxing fans lips right now. His mentality reminds of the typical 'Old-School' throwback, he will fight anyone, anywhere, anytime.
The latest article from Fightnews justifies exactly what I mean, and at the same time shows Floyd what a fighter with a huge set of balls is all about. No bullshit, lets just do it.

Returning to his native Venezuela this week, WBC lightweight champion Edwin Valero was his usual talkative, ebullient self and made no bones about upping his level of opposition and wanting to fight the biggest name fighters. “I think I proved against Antonio DeMarco that I can box as well as punch. It was definitely my best fight,” stated a jubilant Edwin. As for Valero’s hit list, the unbeaten “KO King” suggested Juan ‘Baby Bull’ Diaz as his next foe, but “he seems to have a bout already scheduled.” Another name he mentioned is Juan Manuel Marquez, ” a great fighter and it would make for an exciting bout. I really would like to face Juan Manuel.” But Valero’s main target is, of course, Manny Pacquaio.
“I’m ready to go up to whatever weight Manny wants in order to fight him and, furthermore, I will not require that he be tested for anything. I just want to get in the ring with Manny.

Sky's the limit for Valero bring on anyone, heck i think he's do on eon the Klit sisters!;D
Re: Edwin Valero - An old-school throwback.
Yeah definitely Valero is an old throwback, but I also have to add Tim Bradley in there. Hopefully we see both of them in with each other soon.

I think valero is a former great swimmer and he fights with that swimming punches. Swimming proves as an effective tool in boxing as it improves strength and leg muscles. Look at pac: he swims too with ariza.
Re: Edwin Valero - An old-school throwback.
I haven't been so high on the dude, but if you re watch his last fight without Demarco in your mind you'll notice valero is pretty bad ass. Quick in hand and foot, throws nice combos, throws to kill with both hands, get's hit but realizes when he's taking chances so he knew when he'd probably get hit and when he wouldn't.....just a lot if nice little things i couldn't tell from the Internet before hand. Greatest ever ??? Naw it's easy to remember the last thing we've seen. But potential wise I think he's got what it takes

What! didnt you see the Pacquaio vs Cotto 24/7 he could hardly swim, he has only just taken it up as a part of his training!:p
Re: Edwin Valero - An old-school throwback.
Taansend told me to keep an eye on this guy from his 10th or so fight.
Have followed his career , all by youtube and fight reports, and feared the worst for it when he was banned from fighting in US.
It now looks like he is indeed the real deal and I can't wait to see him in with the main men. Certainly someone to get exccited about (in a non gay way ;))
Not sure any of his fights been shown in UK yet ??
Re: Edwin Valero - An old-school throwback.
Valero is game but he needs to just keep doing what hes doing, beating up and comers. Fighting Pac would be a mistake and the more he mentions it the more Roach is goin to find a way to make it happen.

Yeah he was only doing it because he couldn't do his running (weather conditions, and he wasn't exactly a strong swimmer) As an aside, it's a long stretch to bring up Valero as a swimmer to relate Pac into the topic.
Back to the topic, Valero is exciting and he has some good reactions, he is brave enough to test his skill against anyone it seems. But he is not invincible, one of these days he's going to fight someone that's one step too slick and just a hair faster than him.
Nothing but respect for Valero. All of what he has accomplished lately makes Vicente Mosquera look very good, if he just wouldn't have ended up in jail.........
Re: Edwin Valero - An old-school throwback.
Is it me or does Valero have a Pacquioesque style about him as Bernstein pointed out in the broadcast of the Valero-Demarco fight?
Who should be Valero's next opponent?
Wouldn't a Valero-Pacquiao fight be phenomenal at some point?
Re: Edwin Valero - An old-school throwback.
Valero for sure is something to look for in the future....I was surprised in his last fight I really thought he would either be exposed for a one dimensional slugger as everyone says or that cut was going to end things...Shit he fought through the cut and he showed us all his other skills in the ring...DeMarco is no second rate fighter either..
His power did not carry as well into the LW division as I thought but still he is certainly a guy with heart skills and power...His chin is pretty sturdy as well...IMO he needs some defense wk and not ready for Manny by far (Then again not many guys are) but he has a bright future....

not sure where you are going to find that besides maybe Gamboa moving up. Valero seems to be right up there with Mayweather and Pacquiao and them in terms of handspeed when he is really letting his hands go.
