Showtime/CBS to get Pacquiao-Mosley Fight instead of HBO
Sources: Bob Arum closes deal with CBS/Showtime for Manny Pacquiao-Shane Mosley pay-per-view fight - ESPN
Looks like Arum has made a deal with Showtime instead of HBO. CBS may have some sort of similar 24/7 show but will be free to the public to promote the fight.
Re: Showtime/CBS to get Pacquiao-Mosley Fight instead of HBO
Is this Bob just trying to cash in more by having more people buy the fight? How could CBS even produce a show like 24/7? CBS is not going to have the same effect 24/7 has. Regular TV has limitations on stuff. So Bob wants to get even more people interested, more non boxing fans. Anything to suck all the cash out of Pac. Maybe because he is worried that the HBO PPV won't do huge numbers do to the lack of such a punching bag opponent for Pac? This is crap.
Re: Showtime/CBS to get Pacquiao-Mosley Fight instead of HBO
CBS as in US national tv? Cool! I like it.
It's different. ;D

Margarito-Pac was considered to be a shit fight by boxing fans and it still did 1.15 million ppv buys. Clottey-Pac was considered a shit fight and it did 700k buys also.
And of course Arum wants to tap into the market of non-boxing fans because they are the ones that make up the bulk of PPV buys not the hardcore boxing fans. A 24/7 type show on CBS will be limited due to censors but will reach an audience of 115 million whereas HBO only has an audience of 28 million. More exposure=more money. And boxing has always been about the money.;)

It's not only about the number of scribers its showtimes sister company CBS which is main stream media that HBO doesn't have direct access to.
Re: Showtime/CBS to get Pacquiao-Mosley Fight instead of HBO
And there will be numerous commercials on CBS in between regular sitcoms. The general public will be very interested in this fight. This fight should make a lot of money, and if it does Bob will continue to use Showtime/CBS.

Usually when it comes to promotion, Arum is completely self serving. But self serving or not, He brings more exposure to prime time America and it need not be looked at from a negative perspective. More PPV sales equals more earnings for the fighters.
CBS has some quality stuff. They are certainly capable of producing a comparable show if not one that is improved upon and besides 24/7 could get quite redundant. It will be nice to see some new perspectives. I also don't see any limitations from the stand point of airing a 24/7 type of documentary show on regular TV. I certainly see this a win win for Boxing if they do air it on regular TV.

But on CBS we won't get all the F-Bombs and piss drinking to name a couple....

Great news, now if only they could put this fight on mainstream CBS and boxing will be big again in the US.

Exactly. Just like the ABC Network did during the 60's to whatever the hell time they stopped doing it. "The ABC Wide World of Sports". They broadcasted some old school boxing which I wasn't old enough to appreciate them.

Or they could replay the fight on CBS for free. Replaying it, they would still get massive ratings but also exposes the mainstream to boxing for free.

It depends on the advertisers. Advertisement dollars is what drives "Free", If they reach a viewing audience of 10 Million it's considered a hit. When viewership starts nearing 20 million everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon. I'm not sure of the exact numbers but once viewership drops below 4 million they talk about late night showing or canceling.
