Us boxing fans are like pathetic, jilted lovers
No matter how many times we get dumped, betrayed, lied to...... every time our hopes are raised high..... we get drop-kicked and disappointed yet again. And what do we do? We bitch and moan for a while, eat a ton of ice cream (at least that's what girls do), and let ourselves be led by the nose ring the next time out, like nothing ever happened. What's the old saying.... "Hope springs eternal"?
Hey, at least I'm not excluding myself from the group..... I did say "We".
Well.... at least I get the satisfaction of seeing it coming. I posted what was basically a PLEA in another thread for a good fight, not another boring snoozefest, with both fighters basically scared to go out on the limb. And what happened? Exactly that. Haye spent the whole damn fight bobbing and weaving..... and Klitschko was content to stand outside and let it happen (lest Haye should land a lucky punch and end the fight).
That's IT !!! I'm done with the heavyweights (yeah.... sure). I'm going back to the lower weights, where they have REAL fights (until the next hyped HW fight, when I'll come running back and get my hopes dashed once again). Masochists is what we are.
:(
Re: Us boxing fans are like pathetic, jilted lovers
I thought it was actually pretty entertaining for a heavyweight fight.
I think fans expect too much.

I think fans expect too much. Yeah... you're right. What was I thinking.... expecting Haye to throw more than one punch per round, and for Klitschko to actually take a real chance out there and go for the knockout. Shame on me. ;D ;D
I wanted it to be a good fight too, Bilbo. Wanted it in the worst way. But my instincts told me it would probably otherwise. And to my great sadness, I was right.

I think that's a really terrible stance to adopt, for the future of the sport's sake. The fact that hardcore fans can be satisfied watching "fights" like tonights is only going to further alienate boxing from any mainstream coverage imo. While I fully understand, in fact respect a fighter taking a safty first approach, it is seldom good to watch even as someone who appreciates the craft. When a fight that was as hyped as tonights pans out that way, in contrast to all the good fights going under the rader, it's a shame imo.

I thought Wlad took a good few chances really. I bet he hasn't thrown that many right hands before the 6th round in a long time. I thought the 12th round was excellent (well by recent HW standards anyway) but that was only because Haye knew he needed a KO and half went for it, just wish he had done that in the early rounds.
Re: Us boxing fans are like pathetic, jilted lovers
A bad fight is often still better than a good game in most other sports :)
But only when both guys try to win.

Even in fights that most people find boring I'll still find something to enjoy about it. The only time where I'll be really bored with a fight is a low contact one between guys with no power.

I was one of those with Fenster who thought Haye was going to be completely out of his depth.
I feel less sympathy for those who were expecting more out of Haye than I do for thoise expecting more out of Audley when he fought Haye.
It was always going to be a one sided beat down fight. Haye had done nothing in his career to suggest he was a tougher opponent than Chagaev, Ibragimov, Chambers etc.
He sold the fight on his mouth, and people bought into it.
As Fenster said, on the night he performed better than anyone with more than a passing interest in the sport expected.
What really were people thinking would happen?
It's like people going to see the 3rd in a trilogy of shit films at the cinema, and expecting it to be be good unlike the previous 2.
I thought it was a pretty good fight.

Exactly. Apart from the real Haye haters that are upset he wasn't stretchered from the ring unconcious, it seems many people believed they were going to see either A) the re-emergence of a new prime Tyson or B) a Gatti-Ward fight.
I think that's what HBO must have sold them. :D

Oh, so.... in your smug, infinite wisdom, you paid PPV money for a fight you KNEW would be one-sided....... and WE'RE the fools because we expected a good fight?
Ha-hahahaha. You're priceless.

I enjoyed the fight. I'm not the one running around crying about it.
And when did I say "one-sided?" I thought the most likely outcome was a Wlad KO, but Haye had a great punchers chance too.
The unpredictableness of boxing is why I love it. I have bought far worse PPVs than that and will again in the future. Trust me.

1. I wanted a good fight.
2. I didn't get it.
3. I was unbiased going into the fight. Had Haye won and backed up his bullshit, I would've said: "Good for him, and good for boxing."
4. The HW division needed a boost and didn't get it.
5. This fight will not generate more fan base for our sport of boxing.
6. That is all.

Early on it looked like it could be great, but Haye gave up and Wlad imposed the jab. It was fight over except for that exchange in the 10th and a couple of moments in the 12th. Someone needs to bring the best out of Wlad. Haye was not on that level.
It wasn't a particularly good fight, Wlad was pressing forwards and Haye wouldn't do anything. It got tedious. Could have been much better.

Are Bilbo and me not allowed to say it wasn't the most boring fight ever, Haye is not a disgrace and we sort of enjoyed it because we expected a KO slaughtering?
