I think that's a really terrible stance to adopt, for the future of the sport's sake. The fact that hardcore fans can be satisfied watching "fights" like tonights is only going to further alienate boxing from any mainstream coverage imo. While I fully understand, in fact respect a fighter taking a safty first approach, it is seldom good to watch even as someone who appreciates the craft. When a fight that was as hyped as tonights pans out that way, in contrast to all the good fights going under the rader, it's a shame imo.
I was one of those with Fenster who thought Haye was going to be completely out of his depth.
I feel less sympathy for those who were expecting more out of Haye than I do for thoise expecting more out of Audley when he fought Haye.
It was always going to be a one sided beat down fight. Haye had done nothing in his career to suggest he was a tougher opponent than Chagaev, Ibragimov, Chambers etc.
He sold the fight on his mouth, and people bought into it.
As Fenster said, on the night he performed better than anyone with more than a passing interest in the sport expected.
What really were people thinking would happen?
It's like people going to see the 3rd in a trilogy of shit films at the cinema, and expecting it to be be good unlike the previous 2.
I thought it was a pretty good fight.
