It's almost always rival promoters/TV companies that stop fights happening. It's very rare you learn of a fighter turning down a career high payday without their being more to the offer than let on (options?).
Like Donaire Mares. You've got two guys on different networks (HBO, Showtime), different promoters (Arum, GBP), different sponsors (Corona, Tecate) and so on. The only way around it is to have one of their sanctioning bodies make the other guy the mandatory and let the fight go to purse bids but neither sanctioing body want to risk losing one of their big moneymakers.Quote:
