Another Super Six in the MW Dvision can be made!
Do you have a feeling that a Super Six tourney, or even an "Elite Eight" tourney in the Middle-weight division can and should be made?
The division has three ELITE champions, Peter Quillin being the top guy (WBO Champ), with Sergio Martinez being the #2 (WBC Champion) and Gennady Golovkin being a very close #3 (WBA Champion). And, now, there is a FOURTH champion in the very durable Felix Sturm- while even being a champion, is probably the top 5th or 6th fighter in the division.
Let's take a look at some of the other guys that can make the "Elite Eight" division if it is to be made!
There are some legitimate fringe contenders that should NOT be ignored.
At the top of the list of contenders is Martin Murray, who is probably the #4 guy in the division by MY liking!. Former title challenger that gave Sergio Martinez the fight of his life in Argentina. He also drew with Felix Sturm for the Super WBA title when Sturm was expected to win that fight by UD in Germany, Sturm's home country. Murray is also the former Interim WBA Champion.
Second on the list of contenders is Daniel Geale. Geale was the former IBF Champion that lost his title to a broken Darren Barker- Barker then went on to lose his title via an early stoppage due to injury to current IBF Champion, Felix Sturm. Geale and Sturm can EASILY inter-change the 5th and 6th slot...
To make it an Elite Eight, we can throw in some good chum like Matthew Macklin (even though he has been DESTROYED by Golovkin and deteriorated vs. Martinez to a 11th round retirement) he can make the tournament interesting. Also throw in some other chum like Andy Lee, Anthony Munddine and/or Sam Soliman, and it can get really interesting.
But, perhaps the additional two to make it eight from the six may be a little too much to fit on the schedule. So, let's just keep it at six for now.
Quillin
Golovkin
Martinez
Murray
Sturm
Geale

I stopped reading when you said Quillen was the best middleweight.
The super middle tournament that was won by Ward was very tactical. All of Wards fight were on home turf and he had some help with the ref.

Doess that matter considering not one of his fights was even remotely close?
I don't see why any of them would want to do it. I liked what the Super 6 was but why would a fighter want to give up control over their career for over 2 years? Just look at how many pulled out of the original Super 6.
.... and the guys that pulled out, pulled out to do what exactly? If the top two or three fighters are in the tournament, where do you have to run?
Trust me: if Quillin, GGG and Martinez commit to it, who wouldn't want to be a part of it?
The reason the Super Six at Super Middle was successful was BECAUSE Ward, Froch, Dirrell and Taylor committed to the tournament. Taylor got rocked out, but Ward and Froch and Dirrell remained and they kept it going.
A Super Six can be done in a year and a half... tops!

It did take forever... I can imagine everyone was haggling over the pay. But it can be done in a year's time IF they decide to push it and STRIP anyone dodging- strip them of top rankings and/or titles.
A good fighter that's used to fighting can prepare for a fight in 3 months- at the basic. 4 months, tops.
This is a tournament- the bill should be settled before hand, anyways.
Let's take a look at it like this:
1. Each fighter has two losses before they are out unless it is sudden death semi-finals
2. Each fighter has to win out to the end.
3. Losses MUST be given the chance to be avenged IF the person that defeated you is still in the tourney.
4. If you get injured during the tourney you AUTOMATICALLY forfeit. It won't go on your win/loss record, but your rankings will be affected and you may not get a chance to face the winner of the tourney anytime soon afterwards UNLESS otherwise requested.
So, you would want to be a part of this tournament if you want a title shot.... in the near to mid future.
It may look like this:
JANUARY 10th.
Draw 1, 2, 3 will face 4, 5, 6.
1, 2, 3 wins out against 4, 5, 6. The next fights should be determined by the win percentages- ko's should fight the guy that got his ass handed to him the last time EXCEPT for the guy that he just fought. The guy that won by a split should go on to fight the guy that lost by the nearest margin UNLESS if is the guy he just fought.
APRIL 10th.
So, the winners (1,4,3) may be turned around and be facing 6, 5, 2 (the losers).
6 and 5 were to lose TWICE, they are now eliminated.
JULY 10th.
So, we are left with 1, 2, 4 and 3. 1 - undefeated; 2- 1-1; 4- undefeated; and 3- undefeated.
1 has the highest win percentage of the fights, so he faces seed 2 automatically because of the win/loss ratio. 4 and 3 duke it out. Sudden death.
1 wins over 2 (now 2-1). And, 4 wins over 3. So, now, 3 - 2-1 and 4- undefeated.
SEPTEMBER 20th.
The tourney is now set up for a 4 and 1 seed to fight in the final. Tournament over when 1 wins the undisputed title.... BUT, it has a clause.
3 can have a rematch clause to fight 4 (because of the higher seeder challenger can invoke a clause). So too does 2 over 1. The winner of this fight has a chance to fight for the undisputed title held by 1. 1 goes on to face the mandatory and then wait for the winner of the 3 and 4 title eliminator.
2 is the odd man out, but he has to wait until the winner of the 3 and 4 winner title fight vs 1 before he gets another shot at the title.
But, the main tourney, not the spill over, but the main tourney, is done by mid September the earliest- or at least the early part of November. Under one year...
Re: Another Super Six in the MW Dvision can be made!
... if we can wait an entire year for Floyd Mayweather to fight, we can wait to see how a tournament for the best middleweight in the world can unfold- all in under a year, or therabouts.
Re: Another Super Six in the MW Dvision can be made!
With that scenario I painted above adds to the risk- as NO ONE wants to be the #2 seed at the end of it all. So, it gives the added incentive to win... coming in second won't help, at all. You have to win.
