It was a logistical nightmare last time, so I'm not sure who would want to get involved in a super 6 again.

It did take forever... I can imagine everyone was haggling over the pay. But it can be done in a year's time IF they decide to push it and STRIP anyone dodging- strip them of top rankings and/or titles.
A good fighter that's used to fighting can prepare for a fight in 3 months- at the basic. 4 months, tops.
This is a tournament- the bill should be settled before hand, anyways.
Let's take a look at it like this:
1. Each fighter has two losses before they are out unless it is sudden death semi-finals
2. Each fighter has to win out to the end.
3. Losses MUST be given the chance to be avenged IF the person that defeated you is still in the tourney.
4. If you get injured during the tourney you AUTOMATICALLY forfeit. It won't go on your win/loss record, but your rankings will be affected and you may not get a chance to face the winner of the tourney anytime soon afterwards UNLESS otherwise requested.
So, you would want to be a part of this tournament if you want a title shot.... in the near to mid future.
It may look like this:
JANUARY 10th.
Draw 1, 2, 3 will face 4, 5, 6.
1, 2, 3 wins out against 4, 5, 6. The next fights should be determined by the win percentages- ko's should fight the guy that got his ass handed to him the last time EXCEPT for the guy that he just fought. The guy that won by a split should go on to fight the guy that lost by the nearest margin UNLESS if is the guy he just fought.
APRIL 10th.
So, the winners (1,4,3) may be turned around and be facing 6, 5, 2 (the losers).
6 and 5 were to lose TWICE, they are now eliminated.
JULY 10th.
So, we are left with 1, 2, 4 and 3. 1 - undefeated; 2- 1-1; 4- undefeated; and 3- undefeated.
1 has the highest win percentage of the fights, so he faces seed 2 automatically because of the win/loss ratio. 4 and 3 duke it out. Sudden death.
1 wins over 2 (now 2-1). And, 4 wins over 3. So, now, 3 - 2-1 and 4- undefeated.
SEPTEMBER 20th.
The tourney is now set up for a 4 and 1 seed to fight in the final. Tournament over when 1 wins the undisputed title.... BUT, it has a clause.
3 can have a rematch clause to fight 4 (because of the higher seeder challenger can invoke a clause). So too does 2 over 1. The winner of this fight has a chance to fight for the undisputed title held by 1. 1 goes on to face the mandatory and then wait for the winner of the 3 and 4 title eliminator.
2 is the odd man out, but he has to wait until the winner of the 3 and 4 winner title fight vs 1 before he gets another shot at the title.
But, the main tourney, not the spill over, but the main tourney, is done by mid September the earliest- or at least the early part of November. Under one year...

... if we can wait an entire year for Floyd Mayweather to fight, we can wait to see how a tournament for the best middleweight in the world can unfold- all in under a year, or therabouts.

With that scenario I painted above adds to the risk- as NO ONE wants to be the #2 seed at the end of it all. So, it gives the added incentive to win... coming in second won't help, at all. You have to win.
