Cotto v. Canelo - Make it happen
This would be a monster affair. I'm not sure who I favor. I understand if Canelo wants to earn a strap at 154 before he moves up, but it's such a big fight, it would make sense to do now, wouldn't it?
Re: Cotto v. Canelo - Make it happen
Cotto sees Alavrez as his pension fight and back up if all his other plans fail. He will try and fight again someone like Floyd/GGG/Quillen before he fights Saul.
Re: Cotto v. Canelo - Make it happen
A great fight to make. I think Canelo fits into the weight division easily as he was huge against Lara. I think Alvarez will fight someone like Kirkland first.

I doubt Alvarez would go anywhere near Kirkland.
Re: Cotto v. Canelo - Make it happen
Great styles match up and one that is a must see. But I'd at least like to see Alvarez win officially in any form of a middleweight match first. But really Alvarez would be much bigger, fresher and he'd negate Cottos jab and not have to hunt for him as it goes. Cotto gets absolute respect for taking his claim vs Martinez but he is still a guy who has sponged much damage and matched very smartly in 'return'.

No fan of Alvarez but you are putting wayyy too much stock in his demolition of Tapia. Kirkland is fierce early but he can be timed and dinged ugly with the frequency of a microwave oven. Two completely different levels that one.

I don't think so either. Alvarez is only looking for competitive fights. Kirkland doesn't take a good punch any more.

I'd see Alvarez stopping Kirkland

As would Lara and Cotto.
Kirkland is a beast, but he's a beast with no defense, who starts super slow and can't take a good punch.
That last kid he beat the hell out of was nowhere near a top 20 fighter.

I agree :D which is why I feel it is the perfect smoke and mirrors fight for Canelo ;) Kirkland still has some name value and brings a hint of danger, an exciting style and I think it would be an easy fight to sell :)

I don't.
Alvarez would jump on his bike and ride the wheels of that mofo.
