How to throw a long hook punch like Ken Norton and Sugar Ray Robinson?
Hi gentlemen long time no see!
I have a difficult quetion that most people cant answer. Maybe you can.
Ken Norton throws this punch in the most exaggerated way ive seen any fighter throw it and he broke Alis jaw with it and KOed plenty of others with it, in fact his whole style revolved around these special hooks.
Basically instead of just having a statically positioned arm for a long hook like with a short hook, he seems to whip the arm at the elbow joint to get extra speed and I presume extra power.
How exactly does he do it?
He also does it for body shots.
How do you whip that arm like he does? How the hell is he doing that?

I think you're seeing him recover the arm as he follows through.

Hmm I thought I had it all figured out, but no thumb was necessary, because it was a vertical fist long hook.
