Boxing is back big time.
The last week has been one of the best for boxing in a long long time. Whether you like them or not David Haye taking the title from Valuev and Manny Pacquiao setting up a super fight with Floyd Mayweather has got the general public talking about Boxing for the first time since the Tyson days.
That is the best thing that could have happened for the sport and now I just hope it goes on from this and becomes the attraction it once was!
-
Re: Boxing is back big time.
yeah, i totally agree with that, Haye's got the public talking in Britain at least, and that can only be good for the sport. If Pac-Mayweather happens, i look forward to boxing bringing the whole sporting world to a standstill for one night!
-
Re: Boxing is back big time.
You could be right - if only terrestial TV would get in on the action it could be as big as it ever was. I just watched a segment on Sky NEWS (That's Sky NEWS not Sky SPORTS News) about last nights fight where they showed excerpts from the post fight conference. You never see that unless it's because of an American or British fighter!!
-
Re: Boxing is back big time.
David Haye mentioned in the same sentence with Pacquiao and Mayweather??? That should never happen unless you are saying something to the extent of "Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr are much more talented than David Haye"
Haye might have you Brits all wound up, but the only thing regular boxing fans are wound up over is that he won't shut the fuck up and just fight.

You know what mate all the boxing fans on this site would rather see you shut the fuck up to be honest you do more talking than Haye himself!!!
It doesnt matter it you rate him or not the fact is he is big news him being Golden Boys guest of honour and doing a 30 minute interview with all the boxing Journalists before the fight proves this.
Haye has brought boxing back in the British public eyes last couple of weeks and that is great for the sport we all love.

Re: Boxing is back big time.
Geezus Lyle this is getting a bit creepy. ;D I don't even know if the grin smilie was appropriate there.
-
Re: Boxing is back big time.
No one said Haye was better p4p, or even in their league.
But he does draw crowds and has re-ignited a very stale heavyweight division.
Not forgetting the fact he has unified a division, before moving up and claiming another world title.
If he goes on to defeat both Klitscho's then he'll be up there with the best of them.
-
Re: Boxing is back big time.
Boxing has been back for some time now.
Seems like for the last several yrs we've had at least 1 major bout that had all the attention.

He did this by beating Valuev in a boring fight? Recall that he bitched out of two fights with the Klitschkos.
-
Re: Boxing is back big time.
I never mentioned anything of Haye's skills or talents, I just said that he had got people talking about boxing, these same people have not had any interest in boxing for a long time.
I never said he was better p4p than Pac or Mayweather I was just feeling happy about the fact that the sport I love is once again becoming the big time attraction it was years ago.

Re: Boxing is back big time.
Lol Lyle is hurt cause Haye is more liked on a world scale than the Klitscho's lol.

Ha! That's probably it. Imagine if Haye beat Wlad?
Picture Lyle walking into the woods with a shotgun.

Re: Boxing is back big time.
Arum said boxing is on its way back to limelight again. The PAC vs. Cotto fight may have confirmed Arum's statement. The fight made the world look at boxing again.Much more if PACQUIAO vs. MAYWEATHER will happen....IMO boxing is in! Bigtime again.
BTW Congrats to HAYE for winning vs. VALUEV....

...so I'm out of line in saying that David Haye (given his performance vs Valuev) is not "Bringing Boxing Back"???
I'm sorry, the guy ran his mouth before the fight saying how "The heavyweights are boring, the heavyweights need excitement, BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH" and he puts out that performance (broken hand or not) and then his fans expect everyone else to respect that piece of shit?!?!?! He doesn't know the meaning of the word OUTSIDE the ring, he certainly showed enough respect for Valuev's power IN the ring.
Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather are HUGE PPV draws while David Haye is a regional celebrity and that is a FACT.
Oh but I am soooo sorry, I extend my heartfelt appologies to David Haye and all his little fans, I should never have spoken evil of such a marvelous fighter :vd:

But Haye did 1m PPV sales for his last fight, so regardless of where it is, he's a PPV draw. They print money over here too you know.
He's nowhere near the star that they are yet, but he's at a very different point in his career. They're both a fight or two away from retirement. Is he a bigger star than Pacquiao after beating Barrera or Mayweather after beating Castillo? I'd argue that by virtue of his weightclass he is.
Golden Boy would not have had him out before the Pacquiao-Cotto fight if they didn't think he was going to be a success.

Re: Boxing is back big time.
Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather are known by your average everyday Joe Sixpack on the street....meanwhile David Haye would likely be met with the response "Who?".
Sorry I just don't see any reason to compare David Haye with Floyd and Manny it's ridiculous UNLESS you're talking about boxing in England and if that's the case wouldn't the fighters in that back and forth fight the other week deserve a mention??? I cannot recall their names.

The world exists outside America. You started complaining about RJJ, but the fact is Haye has become huge over the past week. He's on the cover of everything, we've had news crews down at my gym all week about him.
I clearly was talking about Britain, when I said 'they print money over here too'. I agree Pac & PBF are far bigger stars, probably even over here, but look at the differing stages of their career. Also 1m people bought his PPV against Valuev, can you not see that as positive for boxing? Even if it is in little old England.

To say there is about 5 times less people in the UK to america I think 1 million PPV sales is very impressive, but Lyle doesn't think it is so it mustn't be! I wonder if Klitschko sold that many PPV's in the UK whether that would be impressive??

Re: Boxing is back big time.
Like him or not, if the fight with a Klitshco gets made, it will be THE BIGGEST heavyweight fight for many years.
Worldwide PPV will be one of the biggest, if not the biggest, in heavyweight history. Most the PPV buyers will be from Europe, but thats only because the US doesn't have any decent heavyweights to catch their attention.
The nail was hit perfectly on the head, Haye is in a very different stage of his career. Plus, what more can he do to impress people? He unified a division, then moved up a weight and began calling out the best fighters in that weight. He's now beaten one of them and only has 2 left to beat. You cannot argue with what he is doing. He is making a name for himself (although often goes about it by running his mouth)
Plus the Valuev fight, Holyfield did the same approach, just not as good and got a pat on the back for a good effort. Haye did it and won, but gets no credit.
Mayweather took a similar approach against Marquez (similar not the same) but gets labeled as the best ever. Counter punching and in out tactics were the olny way to beat a guy like that

Thank you Lyle.
Yeah Haye Valuev is a much milder version though. Some people were actually being bored to death rather than just sleep in Wlad-Ibragimov!

Re: Boxing is back big time.
Lyle pack it in you daft cunt or Im going to dig up that audio clip of your answerphone message ;D

Re: Boxing is back big time.
dude Lyle give it a rest, i can't stand Haye yet i'm not even bitching about the dude as much as you do, people can't deny that the dude can talk shit with the best of them, making him a popular fighter, he's getting plenty of attention on a international level, does that mean he's a great fighter? no, but he is still getting buzz from fans
on a flipside, people can't really bash the Klitschko's either seeing how Vitali Vs Arreola got a good amount of attention, and that's pretty rare feat in itself for a HW title fight nowadays, but yea i don't think that Haye/Valuev or Pacquiao/Cotto are the only fights to bring boxing back to the mainstream, i go more with Cutmemick, DLH/Mayweather was everywhere leading up to the fight, same goes for Mayweather/Marquez, you were hearing bout piss drinking everywhere leading up to the fight lol

Re: Boxing is back big time.
OK, I guess you have free reign to compare David Haye to Jesus if you like fellas, have fun with all that.
You motherfuckers are getting on my last nerve "Oh Lyle stop it, I'm tired of everytime someone wants to legitimately compare David Haye to the second coming of Mike Tyson or Jack Dempsey you have to go and try to correct them! GOD Lyle that gets so annoying what with you trying to base your arguments in reality...why don't you just give it a rest already"....why don't you guys grow the fuck up?
Have fun worshipping David Haye, I will vow right GOD DAMN now not to post anything about him even if I am specifically asked, that's how fed up I am with all of your bullshit.....I will not mention him until after only either Wlad or Vitali have beaten him, not if Ruiz beats him, not if he wins the Nobel Peace Prize, not if he cures cancer, only if Wlad or Vitali beats him, and I'll throw this in there only if they stop him in the fight, decisions don't count and when that day comes you guys are going to hate life because I'll hound every last fucking one of you about YOUR BOY losing until your eyes bleed.

Re: Boxing is back big time.
...and if I break my promise I suggest I should be banned for no less than 1 month

Re: Boxing is back big time.
I believe the most buys for a heavyweight fight came in the Tyson vs Holyfield 2 fight 10 or so years ago.
Not only was it one of the most popular fights ever, it was also the one where he bit Holyfields ear off. Watched by about 2m people!
I think Lewis Tyson is next, then Tyson vs Holyfield 1.
Oddly, Tyson vs Mcneeley comes in next. Yeah, Tyson vs ???? He knocked him out in about 2 minutes, I even remember watching it. It was so big because it was tysons return to the ring after going in jail.

i can't stand David Haye and yet i don't bitch half as much about him as you do, yea he's garbage and not anywhere as good as most his fans think he is and make him out to be, but he does have a following, and quite a big one at that, don't know why you hate his fans so much cause you're not too different, you say Ali wasn't all that amazing yet try to make Wlad to be a god, give it a rest, this is a BOXING forum, not a i love Wlad nor i HATE HAYE forum, you, Lefty, and Xadu should unite cause honestly you got a lot in common...
-
Re: Boxing is back big time.
David Haye might not beat a Klitschko, but I'm always going to back a guy that wants to beat them!
Especially one with a genuine chance of getting a result if on his best form.

I was right about Sam Peter and I'll be right about this.
As for your misinterpretation of my comments about Ali....I merely say that Joe Louis and Rocky Marciano have actual RECORDS and Ali does not. And yes I do realize he MAY have acheived more had he not had the draft dodging incident BUT Ted Williams may have been the greatest baseball player EVER but he fought in 2 wars which affected his numbers and thereby affected his standing in the history of the game, that is sad but it's reality.
Joe Louis 25 successful title defenses
Rocky Marciano 49-0-0
If we don't recognize the greatness of those acheivements then we're missing out on a big part of boxing history. Ali was talented as hell, but he holds no records and by that rational I have to elevate Louis' and Rocky's standings in MY All-Time Great Heavyweights list.
I simply disagree with you and then you act like I'm just shitting all over Ali's entire career why? I don't know...maybe it's because I found the way Ali acted as a person to be dispicable and maybe it's because I don't fully buy the celebrity hype that surrounds Ali just because of his brashness and political views, to break it down plain and simple I LOOK AT ALI THE BOXER WHEN I AM COMPARING HIM TO OTHER BOXERS. I don't look at his attitude or the fact he's one of the more famous fighters of all time and I think other people don't do that.
And why the hell do you bring up Ali in a thread not about Ali?....oh I'm sorry that reasoning only seems to carry weight when someone tries to use it against me.

i bring it up to show your ignorance and how much of a hypocrite you can be, you bash all the Haye nuthuggers yet you're the same thing, only thing is you do it for Wlad, Louis has the 25 defenses over mainly weak opposition and Marciano made a career out of knocking out has been contenders, Ali became the first man to become 3 time HW champ, Louis never regained the title after losing it period, and if we're gonna go by actual fight records, Ali's is a step above the rest, but back to the main topic, and it's the last one i'm putting on here cause you're too thick to ever be wrong , yes Haye sucks, but he still puts butts in seats, therefore making him a popular fighter, is it really that hard for you to accept or understand?

What is? What you say, or what others say?
In this instance it isnt is it, people are talking about those fights who normally wouldnt, thats a fact, like it or not.
If your talking about the crap you come out with well thats not strictly true either is it, unless hyperbole now means overexagerating with the intention of making oneself sound like a cock.

I think Boxing really needs to examine what is happening to the undercards... They have been getting worse and worse... I'm truly thankful the headliners have been overshadowing the extremely disappointing undercard fights, but c'mon!!!
