Robert Guerrero vs. Selcuk Aydin Saturday night fight/chat thread
:action: Guerrero is one of my favorite fighters, Selcuk Aydin"Mini-Tyson" is an undefeated ( 23-0 (KO 17) Turkish fighter living in Germany, who might give Guerrero a bit of grief.

I like guererro too but have no clue what he's doing going from lightweight straight to welter, he wasn't at lightweight all that long...and feels like its been a while since he had a fight.

Re: Robert Guerrero vs. Selcuk Aydin on Showtime Saturday night
I'm tempted to take Aydin in an upset. Mainly due to Robert's inactivity & Aydin being a natural welterweight with a physical style. It wasn't that long ago Robert was at 130.
If Robert adjusts to the added weight he'll outbox Aydin. I'm just wondering why he would skip an entire weight class :headscratch:

Good question, you'd think Guerrero might stop and have a few fights at Jr. Welterweight or a few "adjustment" fights @ Welterweight before jumping right into a title fight. :cwm13:

Re: Robert Guerrero vs. Selcuk Aydin on Showtime Saturday night
Guerrero seems to have done a lot of shouting out and complaining of not getting big fights, then when he gets one he pulls out. To be fair to him, I actually think he's the kind of guy that just craves the big shot and will take any opportunity to get it, any opportunity being a Welter match-up with Aydin. He also is in no position to be picking and choosing opponents.
I like Guererro, just got fed up with him and his incessant calling out of people he had no business calling out, seen as he hadn't barely even fought. Only a win over a faded Casamayor, who actually put him on the seat of his pants, and thoroughly outboxed Katsidis and gave him a pasting. I'd go as far as saying that neither of these bouts even come close to readying him for a genuine Welterweight contender like Aydin. He's not great by any means, but quite a powerhouse.
Guererro needs to find a home and fast before people dont care about him anymore. I really cared about watching him at 135, now, who knows...

Re: Robert Guerrero vs. Selcuk Aydin on Showtime Saturday night
Don't expect the upset - I haven't even seen Guerrero fight but if he can box even just a little bit then he'll have a field day with Aydin.
Aydin just thinks he can blast anybody out with power and doesn't bother setting any shots up. He can't throw a straight right hand, it's always looping (I call this "Chisora syndrome") and so, so telegraphed. Horrible style.

He has had supremely bad luck with injuries over the last couple of years. Not his fault. And I can't blame the guy for self-promoting and trying to land big fights. It's what everyone does. He's trying to make a living.
I'm just happy to see him fight again. I thought he was the best fighter at 135 during his brief time there and would have picked him over JMM at that weight at that time. It is a big jump in weight here but he's tall and has the frame for it. And if Aydin (whom I've not seen) is really just a puncher, as Althugz says, then I agree that Guerrero should dominate him. He has outstanding technical skills.

Re: Robert Guerrero vs. Selcuk Aydin on Showtime Saturday night
Aydin is not the underdog and his win over Robert would not be considered an upset. Not sure where that comes from. Jo Jo Dan did get bent over the park bench in the first fight in Turkey but he got beat fair and square in the second one. Dan is as good a boxer as Guererro. Aydin's boxing ability is underrated.
I think Robert is going to get cold cocked.

Actually, Guerrero is a 4-1 favorite in Vegas casinos.

Hmmmmm. Then I'd be betting heavy on Aydin.

Re: Robert Guerrero vs. Selcuk Aydin on Showtime Saturday night
Guerrero has all the tools and mobility to keep Aydin off balance and take it on the cards but it really wouldn't shock me at all to see Aydin pull it off on pure physicality and awkward angle power. If you take parts of Mayorga, Augustus, Darchinyan and some Hamed thats what he reminds me off. He could make it a awkward twist up for Guerreo who can be taken off his mental stride at times, andget sucked in. They better have a stern and none shit ref for it.

Do any of our stateside friends no much about Sierra? Will he be a danger for Groves? Boxer, brawler, puncher?
-
Re: Robert Guerrero vs. Selcuk Aydin Saturday night fight/chat thread
RG did have one fight at 140 almost exactly 2 yrs ago. Casamayor. So his only fight at that weight was against a shot/faded 135 pound fighter. And he got dropped late in that fight.
if Aydin can do decent bodywork throughout the fight he has a chance at catching RG in the last 3-4 rounds.
A fading Katsidis, who was beat up throughout the bout, was able to still hurt RG a bit later in their fight with bodyshots.

Right you are Sir, George Groves vs. Francisco Sierra, 8 rounds, super middleweights. I doubt that Showtime will air this fight tonight, and sorry right off the top of my head, I don't know anything about either fighter other than they're Super-middleweights.
If I hear the result tonight, i'll post it in this thread.

I figure Robert will take care of business unless he gets rocked with a big shot. Guerrero has more experience and faced better competition than Aydin has. That's my take.

They are showing this fight, it's just about to start on Showtime Extreme. ;)

Re: Robert Guerrero vs. Selcuk Aydin Saturday night fight/chat thread
Tidy opening round for Groves, Sierra doesn't look to have much movement.
-
Re: Robert Guerrero vs. Selcuk Aydin Saturday night fight/chat thread
Really good performance from Groves, although he did get a nasty cut from a headbutt in the second which may mean he has to delay his fight with Anderson. Although it's off to the corner above his right eye, it looked really deep.
However, once the fifth began he landed four concussive shots that sent Sierra crashing to the canvas. Great stuff from Groves, hope he recovers okay.

Hey Diane, I just noticed extreme was showing the undercard fights, but tuned in too late.
So who won, Groves or Sierra?

So Groves wins by 5th round KO, ;)

Have a good one mate....starting to get a little late for me.... I think it was a sixth round KO come to think of it, Groves had a terrible cut, but that just focused him on getting the job done, and the knockdown before the ref stopped it was pretty nice. Sierra was very upright and didn't have the best defence.
The other fight on was Hugo Centeno against Ayi Bruce of Ghana, and possibly one of the most one-sided eight rounders I've seen. I don't think Bruce landed over 9 punches a round the whole bout, and the first half Centeno was outpunching him 30+ against one or two. However, these Ghanaians have excellent chins, and while it was never competitive, he stuck around. It was 80-72,80-72, 79-73, and Bruce was lucky to get that. Centeno doesn't look to be a huge puncher, but at 6'1", he's a very tall guy in that division.

so gus johnson wants to put RG in the same breath as henry armstrong(if he wins). a little hint, armstrong didn't win an interim title at 147 when there was 4 major belts.

Re: Robert Guerrero vs. Selcuk Aydin Saturday night fight/chat thread
I'd pay $500 to see Gus Johnson fall off his stool...or a grand if Bernstein would push him
wonder what Porter is 'unofficially' weighing
-
Re: Robert Guerrero vs. Selcuk Aydin Saturday night fight/chat thread
Alrighty, here we with Showtime, Bernstein and Johnson calling the action, 1st up before the main event, Shawn Porter vs. Alfonso Gomez, 10 rounds, welterweights.
Porter will probably blitz Gomez, but I hope not.

I have to root for Porter, he's a local boy.

Re: Robert Guerrero vs. Selcuk Aydin Saturday night fight/chat thread
if Gomez wins then I'm happy as I don't like Porter
If Porter wins then I'm happy as I won't have to see Gomez on tv again
sounds like a win-win scenario.
-
Re: Robert Guerrero vs. Selcuk Aydin Saturday night fight/chat thread
Gomez can win this on the outside. Porter is sloppy as hell, and he's cut
-
Re: Robert Guerrero vs. Selcuk Aydin Saturday night fight/chat thread
Good opening fight, nice 1st round action.
-
Re: Robert Guerrero vs. Selcuk Aydin Saturday night fight/chat thread
Porter and head movement have never exchanged numbers. Straight shots-stiff jabs like him....I got Gomez 2-0 and I can't stand the guy
-
Re: Robert Guerrero vs. Selcuk Aydin Saturday night fight/chat thread
Not that Gomez is winning, but he's giving Porter more problems then I can remember seeing before..
-
Re: Robert Guerrero vs. Selcuk Aydin Saturday night fight/chat thread
2-1 porter after 3 on my card.
