Could tonight have gone any worse for Broner?
Outside of getting KO'd?
I noticed a lot of empty seats, showing that he isn't really captivating the nation like he thinks he is.
Then he gets put on his ass twice, wobbled numerous times, hurt, and IMO dominated by a guy who was supposed to be a stepping stone to big marquee fights.
Then he shamelessly tries to milk a weak headbutt, making a fool of himself as he was looking for a way out.
Then he loses his 0, and instead of sticking around he runs away, getting pelted by cups and other debris from the crowd.
Completely humbled, completely stripped of his dignity all around.

Re: Could tonight have gone any worse for Broner?
You forgot his trashy display of humping Maidana in the corner, only to get paid back in full later in the fight.
-
Re: Could tonight have gone any worse for Broner?
Not to mention Maidana humping him in retaliation.

Looking at maidana as a stepping stone by anyone is a big mistake to make, dude hasn't made an easy night for anyone with exception of devon who employed ruizesque tactics in fear of marcos' power. So glad they gave it to marcos but dam a knockout would have made it even sweeter, guarantee broner comes out with a million excuses, and if I'm maidana I don't give the dude a rematch.

Beat up and punked, not a good night for him!

Broner is trash and I am glad I was finally proven right tonight!

Re: Could tonight have gone any worse for Broner?
Obviously it won't be good for Broner box office wise. But it might be the best thing for his boxing abilities. He was a fat slob before training camp, it makes no sense to emulate all of Floyds worst characteristics but ignore what makes Floyd great, his dedication.
Broner will never be as good as Floyd, I don't think anyone ever thought he would but he could come back from this deefeat significantly improved. Floyd tried advising him but the kid was too big for his britches. Maybe some humility will do him good.
Everything Broner has shown character wise suggests he'll make excuses and continue the act. I tend to root for redemption whether I like someone or not. Or maybe I just like to see boxers maximize I'm not sure. I know even though he behaved despicably I don't hate him as much now as I did this afternoon.
I think I'd rather enjoy seeing him come back better for this beating I enjoyed so much.

Here's another one, Bean:
He was the headliner tonight, and Saddo didn't sticky a fight chat thread for him. ;D
Poor bastard....

Re: Could tonight have gone any worse for Broner?
It looked like his jaw was really swollen after the fight as well, maybe it's broken:D(fingers crossed)

no doubt!!! it was so fake looking too!!! lol. thank god that ref didnt play that shit....

Re: Could tonight have gone any worse for Broner?
Broner won a few of the middle rounds, but Maidana put a beating on him overall. Broner has been humilitated and a good thing too as the wannabe Mayweather thug act was absurd. He was cheating today, delay reacted to the headbutt, tried to hump his opponent, and in turn got buzzed several times, knocked down twice, was in permanent complain mode and was looking to the ref who did his best to help him.
Maidana gave no room for doubt. I don't think anyone will be able to keep a straight face with Broner again. His chin has been checked and he is easy to hit. The next banger will knock him out properly.
-
Re: Could tonight have gone any worse for Broner?
Life and death with Paulie and now fucked up by Maidana. And lest we forget the PDL robbery. Broner has been given an easy ride and now it is time for him to either work his way back or just bugger off.
-
Re: Could tonight have gone any worse for Broner?
As much as it was nice to see Broner lose, that was a great, competitive fight and he did come back strong in the championship rounds to his credit. Dare I say if that had gone 15 Broner probably would have gotten Maidana out of there. He's got a lot to work on but the upside is there, and he can beat some good fighters and be an interesting addition to whatever division he's going to compete in.

Maidana was mainly hurt by the sucker punch though, that ruined his 12th. Broner is ballsy for sure though. I was more concerned in the 5th and 6th when he appeared to be getting some rhythm. Really, you have to wonder why Broner was fast tracked to WW. Not really worth it in the end.

Re: Could tonight have gone any worse for Broner?
Yea could be, I watched it on a stream that got a bit choppy so couldn't tell how long after the bell that actually was. I was pretty annoyed by the constant raking with elbows and theatrics, but that's boxing and he wasn't getting warned much. Maidana was definitely wearing out and hurt in the 11th though, if Broner wasn't such a spoonfed asshole people would just be talking about what a good fight that was.
-
Re: Could tonight have gone any worse for Broner?
After crying himself to sleep, Broner waking up to a text message from his gf and its a picture of Maidanas cock in her mouth :lolhaha:

I think so too. I don't think the sucker punch had anything to do with it. Maidana was completely spent by that time after throwing over double the punches Broner did.
To Broner's credit, he's durable as fuck. He took a ton of brutal body punishment along with the concussive knockdowns, and he was still fresh and strong in the later rounds.
Broner is a natural fighter, nobody can take that away from him.

Agree completely with both these posts.

He's just a lazy bum. He could have been great but tried to take short cuts to big paydays. Why jump from light to welter? Now need to skip divisions. Train properly and let body develop naturally and he would have been a lot stronger at welter in a few years

This right here sums it up. Anyone who took the blinders off could see right through this kid. He was manufactured and was given a pass. Literally allowed to throw his finger up at the network who featured him and the fans who showed interest. He deserves exactly what he got.

Spot on. The kid and he is one is a mental gimp and he bought into his own bullshit and was more worried about being in the spot light then actually applying his craft. He got a lesson.
That's it.
He's demanding an immediate rematch already which is a good sign.

Yes, although I'm not sure I would give him one if I were Maidana. Maidana has a lot of options now.

As far as acting goes, he would be a perfect fit on any world class soccer team.

Was definitely an entertaining fight and had my full attention from beginning to end. I was anxious during the middle rounds too.
Broner made a mistake going to WW, it's as simple as that, in my opinion.

Re: Could tonight have gone any worse for Broner?
Another rewatch down. He is so so heavy on his feet, his defence is really only from the waist up...feet in front of everything and standing straight with head high and easily knocked out of position. He needs to retool his basics and fundamentals or I honestly don't see him having an extended career at all.
I didn't see Maidana on the verge or gassed at all in 12th, both were hit clean and Broner ate a left that stiffened him. He was also warned harshly (again) there, and got a clear pass for hitting Maidana after the bell in 11th.

Re: Could tonight have gone any worse for Broner?
It could have been worse. His trainer could have got tired of being talked to like a dog and wrapped the towel around Broner's neck and choked him before the last round.
Broner is too square up to use his shoulder effectively- his left hip and shoulder are too open- or to get turned on a right hand. I noticed in the last round that he was punching with loose wrists, maybe because he was tired, or maybe it is something he does a lot and I just didn't think to look for it.

You noticed he was being disrespectful to his trainer?

If I'm marcos I tell broner to fuck off, or give him a 90-10% split if he wants a rematch so bad, I mean its ridicilous how disrespectful broner was prefight and even during the fight.

He does get a little slappy. I think alot of it is because he is out of position too. Either inside with flat feet or leaves them there..wide..while his torso tries to lean back, twist and defend. The shoulder thing is just lipstick on the pig really. Almost like his body is working against itself, not unified.

Re: Could tonight have gone any worse for Broner?
Yeah man just rewatched it as well in way better quality. Maidana wasn't in nearly as bad shape towards the end as I thought watching live, must've just been my nerves running high. He actually won the 11th for me and was only really buzzed once in the 12th. The headbutt in the 8th was nothing also, it looked way worse to me the first time. Maidana simply lodged his head under Broners to try and free his arms up since Broner was holding on for dear life. The delayed reaction going down from Broner was a crock of shit and he wanted out of the fight at that moment. I don't know that there is a whole lot for Broner to retool, he is so set in trying to use that shell and he really won't get away with it because his feet are cinder blocks as you say.

Yea to all his corner, I noticed a few times. He'd be telling the to chill out, get the fuck out of the ring etc, just didn't want to hear anything. I don't know who trains him though and there was a total lack of urgency in there when he was way behind, so maybe they don't deserve much respect.

Well in the only instance I remember in his corner, Broner was goin "I know I gotta dog him" and his trainer was telling him "You gotta knock him out"
Surprising that the geniuses wearing Clinton and Nixon masks during the walk in weren't of more help during the fight

I thought Maidana was out of gas a few times, but he hung in there.
Dare I say if the fight had gone 15, Broner's corner would not have urged him to go for the KO, at all costs, until the 14th and Maidana would have hung in there with his winning ways.
I like ifs, ands or buts too, but not when Broner is getting his comeuppance.
-
Re: Could tonight have gone any worse for Broner?
Everything seemed to go wrong for him but on the plus side it was a very entertaining fight and everyone loved it. That tells me Broner will be in exciting fights going forward because he didn't run even after being dropped twice. He was still coming forward in round 12 vs a puncher two weights above him.
The fastback to welter obviously backfired but I'd rather watch that type of fight than a brash guy who talks the talk but runs in the ring. Floyd gets bood in almost every fight but it's kept his zero in tact.
Congrats to Maidana. Long time coming and it was well deserved. Clear winner IMO
