I felt like DAwson had 6 clear rounds. BHOP 2 clear rounds. 4 rounds that were close (2 of those I shaded BHOP. 1 I shaded Dawson. 1 I have no idea).
My card ends up 7-4-1 for Dawson.
I had it Dawson 8-4 in rounds.
I knew Hop would bitch/whine about the decision, fucking asshole, don't give your opponent any credit, right Bernard?
Did you see Dawson turn to the ref like he was trying to borrow money...instead of maybe attacking and furthering a advantage. Dawson left a trail of tears in his interviews
I'm not a Dawson fan by any means, but I do think he had a point about the headbutts. I wouldn't say that if Hop hadn't been doing this same shit his whole career. At least Dawson had enough maturity and class to give Hop some credit after the fight, instead of leaving the ring like an infantile douche.
As opposed to saying he felt the descision was wrong on the mic? Bit of screwed either way to some fans who might say he was just as sore loser and just want to hold the door open for him wouldn't ya say. Headbutts to one degree or another happen in most fights and for Dawson to continue to piss and moan even
after winning the title is every bit a punk move. I had it 7-5 but for people to act like Dawson was commanding the call is off. He coasted and, per norm.
You're one of my favorite posters here but, to go Jim Gray on you, I think you're way off here. I thought it was an easy fight to score and 117-111 was exactly right. The fight wasn't remotely close. I like Hopkins a lot but I just felt sad watching him tonight. 90% of his fight was leading with his head and one right hand into a grappling hold (and that's not getting inside to do work, it's just straight-up holding). He was pretty much entirely responsible for it being a terrible fight to watch. Add the headbutts and yeah, I'm with Dawson 100%. I would have complained too -- Hopkins made him look bad not with skill but with pure spoiling, in the worst way. It was a sad way for an all-time great to go out. I wish he had retired after the Pavlik fight.
I've been saying since the Super 6 that Dawson/Ward is the most meaningful fight within the 160-175 divisions -- I was happy to hear Dawson call Ward out. That fight will also not be pretty but I really hope it happens. It's both fighters' biggest chance of losing -- don't see that happening any other way.
Re: Hopkins vs. Chad Dawson II - Saturday night fight thread
I had it about even. Nothing in it, they were hardly hitting each other. Im probably not the best judge as I got bored to tears within three rounds and played on the computer while watching it. I am however glad this fight happened. They were both at the top of the devision, its a shame more fighters at the top of there devisions dont do the same. But one of the most boring fights I have forced myself to watch in a long time.
Re: Hopkins vs. Chad Dawson II - Saturday night fight thread
I was shocked a ref getting on Hopkins case, classic dirty fighting but he was well out boxed 114 -114
what was that score. He got beat it was not close at all weather some people think it was, he loves
rolling about on the floor like a carpet salesman.
He walk out the ring you swear he's been robbed, please not a rematch please not again I HOPE it's
the last time I see him in the ring.;D
Re: Hopkins vs. Chad Dawson II - Saturday night fight thread
I had it 7-5 for Dawson.
Due to the close nature of some rounds I feel anything from 9-3 Dawson to a 6-6 Draw are cards I can agree with. I have to disagree with anyone saying BHop won though. I think an MD for Dawson was a totally fair outcome.
BHop didnt get old tonight or anything though. Regardless of what people say about retirement, he can come again and regain a world title. I hear that Pascal/Cloud is set to be announced, you better believe he can beat the winner of that if he can land the match up.

That was not a close fight at all, Dawson was out punching him by about 6 to 1 easy it was nice to see a ref that pulled Hopkins up on his dirty fighting.Hopkins gets away with a lot of dirty tricks but thank god not this time.Dawson showed class in his interview something Hopkinsin will never have, mind you
can't polish a turd.;D

Hopkins is not easy to fight or hit, but under the circumstances, I thought Dawson did a great job of staying the aggressor, and being busier and more effective with his punches. It wasn't pretty, but it clearly won Dawson the fight. Hop simply was not effective enough and/or busy enough to win more than 3 or 4 rounds.
Fugly fight, but Dawson did what he needed to do to get the win, congrats to him.
Re: Hopkins vs. Chad Dawson II - Saturday night fight thread

Were did 114-114 come from must have been Obe one as a judge with a blind fold on using the force to score the fight.;D
Re: Hopkins vs. Chad Dawson II - Saturday night fight thread
Hopkins found a way not to get knocked out, like the wily old veteran he is. His fights are never pretty, but the guy does what he feels he needs to do in order to get the win. Hopkins said before the fight that Dawson was younger and stronger, but not smarter. There may be something to that, because he managed to get under Dawson's skin on many occasions, and Dawson was unable to knock him out. It's probably fitting that B-Hop ends his career like that, seeing as to how he has faced so many top fighters and has never been KO'ed or seriously woozy. Like him or not, you gotta tip your hat to Hopkins, because 47 is a ridiculous age to be fighting at. I've never enjoyed his fights, because they tend to be full of clutching, mauling, wrestling..... and many times have ended in controversy. They're just not crowd-pleasing fights. But you have to give the old guy his just due. He's made it work for decades.
On a side note... I was pleasantly surprised to see the "from below" shot of the two ring girls entering the ring after the 4th round (precisely when Hopkins opened the cut over Dawson's left eye). That was awesome. I don't mind seeing and hearing the corners between rounds, but a few more of those "from below" shots would sure be appreciated by us boxing fans.
:)

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that was most likely their best angle. I was TRULY impressed.
:D
Re: Hopkins vs. Chad Dawson II - Saturday night fight thread
Dawson won 8-4, B Hop just does not have the output at this level.

Well Mr. Grey (your cool but Grey is a kook) not to go Teddy but...You are clear as big a Hopkins fan as I am, this was no robbery and Dawson deserved the win...right? That said there is nothing worse than a winner making excuses as to why he looked mediocre or why an opponents 'style' put him in that position. If someones really pissing you off Chad....punch him in the mouth. Dawson doesn't get a pass on that just because its Hopkins in the other corner. He too fought from the backseat in large spots and when he had Hopkins in a vulnerable spot along the ropes twice he took his foot off the gas. He settled. I mean when your corner has to encourage by telling you to do like Joe Calzaghe, come on. Didn't matter if it was Hopkins "headbutt" or that left hook opening up Dawsons right eye. It could be Hopkins or a Pascal who he literally had out on his feet for a moment and what did he do...he stepped back. He settled. I call a fight strictly from a fighter a and fighter b point and give credit during rounds where I feel its due, regardless of what a prideful stubborn ahole a dude may be. Hopkins inability to give two shits as to what the fans think of him as much as his reserved sniping from perimeter that has seen him turn 47 in the ring has often come back to bite him on the arse and style wise its costs him rounds but he was hardly in there just to spoil or merely survive. He was touching Dawson in the clinches and that lead right found a nice home in spots...BOTH were warned for infractions and Dawson was missing plenty. The right man won the fight and good to see that but like I said I'd rather see Hopkins fight a Hopkins pace at 47 than Dawson do it at 29, and In my opinion he could have done much more but I do honestly think we have seen Dawson get as 'hot' as he's going to get in there.

Yup or 9-3. He just doesn't punch enough. He had the same problem in the Calzaghe fight. Here, he's just a few years older.

I wanted Dawson to win and shut the ole man up, a KO would have been great but Hop is just too wily and slick for that. Although Hop did his best to make this a boring foulfest, I still enjoyed seeing Dawson win. I won't go as far as saying that Chad clowned/owned Bernard, but he did make him look like an old fool in there at times. Funny how before the fight Hopkins was telling us how fucking smart he is in the ring, well guess what, Chad looked like the one with the brains in there last night.
