Re: Abraham - Dirrell fight thread
On first watch I thought he was 'doing a Griffin' - it was the delayed reaction to the punch, it seemed calculated to me, because Abraham was starting to find him with more frequency.
The other thing is that the punch didn't seem that hard, firm yes, but not a really devastating punch - and make no mistake, Dirrell had taken some harder shots during the fight than the one Abraham hit him with when he was down.
All said - I can't argue with the DQ, Abraham is a moron. You can't hit a guy when he was down. Acting or not, doesn't matter - Abraham broke the rules.
I think the MOST bizarre thing to come out of that fight was the display by the doctor - was it his first ever fight??:-\
You don't treat the cut, dickhead, you wipe the fucking blood away and tell us if he's ok to go. Abraham got about 30 seconds of treatment on his cut, and Cole had to tell that guy twice - "You're just supposed to look at it." What the fuck is going on in Michigan?
Seriously, the sport of boxing never fails to find new ways to amaze me.

He was even putting pressure on the cut. I mean wtf was that about. Clearly ineptness on the part of the officials. I agree on a previous poster saying this fight was truly embarrassing. Shame this could have been a good barnstormer if more "able" officials were on hand. Truly disappointed.

I honestly can't believe how many stupid people there are on this forum. I'm a big fan of Abraham, but he deserved the DQ. I can't believe anyone thinks Dirrell was faking... Jesus fucking Christ.

I was just about to post the same thing, minus being a big fan of AA. Just cause everyones picks at the Super 6 are wilting :) Dirrell was dominating the fight. I gave AA 2 rounds, dont think anyone could have given him more than 3. The King is exposed.
On a side now I will go for a swim since I filled my e-pool with all my e-cash from the Dirrell victory. (don't ask about the maidana/cayo bet)

Yeah AA did deserve the DQ even though I was rooting for him. Thing is, I'm not entirely convinced Dirrell was truly that hurt to "act" out like he did after the DQ. I mean, he was handed more punishment on the round before the final one and he was still standing there. (Not sure what round it is, but it was the round where it should have been called a knockdown). Was a bit inconsistent there in my eyes.
If he truly was hurt (I'm praying he's not), then I'd be the first to admit I'd be ashamed to be posting this one here.
Bottom line for me is AA did a stupid mistake and Dirrell deserve the DQ win.
Re: Abraham - Dirrell fight thread
someone needs to make a gif of the shot Abraham landed cause there seems to be some bizarre idea that it wasn't that hard of a punch. He's a monster puncher, had a lot of leverage punching down on him, Dirrell didn't even come close to seeing it and it snapped his head completely around. It was a hard looking shot to me.

How can anyone not think he was hurt? He was literally fucking delusional after the fight ended. No one would fake that, especially when they were well ahead in a fight and were clearly outclassing their opponent. To say otherwise is just ridiculous and ignorant.
This part of my post isn't directed at you because I haven't noticed you say anything of the sort, but I love how some people are suddenly neurologists here talking about how someone should or should not be acting after receiving a heavy, undefended, and unexpected blow to the head. I'm honestly shocked at some peoples reaction to this fight. I just hope DIrrell is ok, because IMO he should be leading the Super 6 at this point instead of hopiing to recover from what appeared to potentially be a serious head injury.

I don't recall reading a direct accusation of faking now if we're talking about overexaggerating for all it's worth that's what Dirrell did. I've never seen such antics from somebody who was KO'd in my life. Think back to some of the latest brutal KO's in the sport and how they responded (Hatton and Taylor) spring to mind. Both took awhile to get up , were confused and disorientated and looked lost. Contrast that with Dirrell. Lies down as if he's dead then springs up then goes back to the corner and sits down like he's dying again then starts yelling and making noise "let me breathe let me breathe". Abraham did a cowardly thing but Dirrell milked it for all it was worth

Whatever you say doctor. Dirrell didn't lie down like he was dead. He grabbed his head, slowly sank to the canvas, and started twitching. After he got back up, he was completely disoriented, borderline (or perhaps not borderline) delusional and had no idea what was going on.
Re: Abraham - Dirrell fight thread
Admittedly Wikipedia is not the best source for medical information, but this sounds right in line with what Dirrell did:
In one in about seventy concussions, concussive convulsions occur, but these are not actual post-traumatic seizures and are not predictive of post-traumatic epilepsy, which results from structural brain damage.[32] Concussive convulsions are thought to result from temporary loss of brain function rather than from structural damage and are usually associated with a good outcome.[33]
Cognitive symptoms include confusion, disorientation, and difficulty focusing attention. Loss of consciousness may occur but is not necessarily correlated with the severity of the concussion if it is brief.[15] Post-traumatic amnesia, in which the person cannot remember events leading up to the injury or after it, or both, is a hallmark of concussion.[18] Confusion, another concussion hallmark, may be present immediately or may develop over several minutes.[18] A patient may, for example, repeatedly ask the same questions,[34] be slow to respond to questions or directions, have a vacant stare, or have slurred[18] or incoherent speech.[35] Other MTBI symptoms include changes in sleeping patterns[11] and difficulty with reasoning,[31] concentrating, and performing everyday activities.[18]
Affective results of concussion include crankiness, loss of interest in favorite activities or items,[36] tearfulness,[5] and displays of emotion that are inappropriate to the situation.[35] Common symptoms in concussed children include restlessness, lethargy, and irritability.[37]
Re: Abraham - Dirrell fight thread
All I'm saying is I have never seen the yelling and bouncing around that Dirrell was doing when he's going "let me breathe let me breathe". I've never seen this from any athlete who's suffered a head injury before. Logically if you had just been KO'd you would be subdued and a bit lost you wouldn't have energy to be doing stuff like that.

Read the post immediately above yours. There a a variety of medically-supported reactions to concussions and other head injuries. Just because Dirrell acted differently than other fighters does not mean he was not seriously hurt. In fact, I would (baselessly) speculate that it could possibly mean he was hurt even worse than the other fighters you mention were.
