Re: Berto vs. Ortiz on HBO saturday
Really entertaining fight, despite a terrible referee.
It didn't seem that anybody in the Berto camp had a plan of how to go about fighting this guy. He was able to counter, sometimes, the real blatant mistakes Ortiz made, but Berto is neither smart enough nor slick enough to create or exploit openings that aren't telegraphed. It was there for him all night, to take a short pivot to his right and drop the right hand, but Berto bails out right foot first and doesn't know how to fight going that way.
Ortiz is the Truest Sign Of The Apocalypse I'm aware of: a right handed fighter turned southpaw. He constantly throws that left hand from too far away, then steps forward with his left foot leaving himself wide open. A good fighter would kill him for that. Also, he needs to improve his left hand, or tattoo "VICTIM" on his chest before thinking about fighting anybody that can fight. His feet are so far apart that he pushes that punch; its an invitation to left hook him silly.
Good, hard fought club fight, fun to watch. World championship level? No freaking way. Any aspiring fighters that watched this, don't do anything that you saw tonight.

I thought he would have more of a latino accent. I've never heard him speak either.

Martinez was ringside on HBO Latino btw.
Martinez is 170 lbs fight night while Ortiz is 161 lbs, unfair IMO.

Awesome fight. The wife even loved it! Ortiz fought like a man with something to prove tonight - and the extra weight actually seemed to benefit. I really thought Berto would be the stronger of the two, but I was wrong.

It would take a lot of time and effort to make it happen, this I'm aware; but, it would be interesting to see their two styles clash.

What the hell? :p You realize this fight was at ww?
Re: Berto vs. Ortiz on HBO saturday
Enough with the Ortiz vs Martinez, they're about 2 weight classes apart and 1 guy just fought for the 1st time at WW.

Yes, it's not right. It's like Mayweather/Marquez nobody outside of Marquez was calling for that, so we shouldn't have anybody outside of Ortiz calling for it either. But I am sure he isn't that silly. Martinez is far too big.

Family night again tonight had a great time with the kids. Came in in the 8th round Ortiz putting a great show. I'm working my way the the early rounds on the DVR, Fight of the year candidate. Lots of big power punches..... love this fight. If Mayweather don't come around, I think Pac will let Ortiz in on a big payday.

At 160 he's far too big of course but with the power of Goldenboy behind him Ortiz might be able to cheat and negotiate that Martinez comes in at 158. We know from the Filipino fraud that it's easy to defeat a bigger man when you demand those kind of concessions.
I'd refuse to credit him for that win however.
Re: Berto vs. Ortiz on HBO saturday
Congrats to Ortiz, fought pretty well. This fight aside from the knockdowns though was pretty dull I thought, incredible amount of holding and mess which was made worse by the most overzealous breaking I think I have ever witnessed. I lost count late on how much he was breaking the fighters. Dreadful. I think I've pretty mch decided I don't wanna see Berto again, he bores me to death personally.
