Actually the Amatuer scoring methods have improved a lot but either way it is effective it teachs a fighter something...The clean punch scoring is better than agressor, ring generalship ect crap.....It helps eliminate many of the hometown decision losses ( except when it is very close) It also makes a guy fight and not go for the one punch knockout scoring.....Makes fighters more well rounded...Offense and defense...My guys hav3e been on the short end a few times in the Amatuers not saying it doesn't happen but It is more for the better than worse..

yeah...the scoring is better.....but the promoters of the amateur fights are less than horrendous!!!! They purposely try to get mismatches for the home guys...I know you want the Home boy to win but it is not ethical and shows horrible sportsmanship...which is why I don't let my fighters fight in St. Louis anymore...

That 1984 US team was AMAZING in that they ALL won at least silver and then most went on to have great pro careers

sorry matey but i have to disagree their, i believe that the scoring system is a load of shite!for example if you knock a fighter down with a heavy blow and hurt him badly if he gets up and paws at u with three nothing jabs he wins the round like with tyson tillman same thing..and the amature method of developing a fighter didnt help much with tillman,we all know what mike did to him in there third encounter,anyway just an oppinion bro!

oh yeah my bad ,hey just curious whats the weight difference between hw and shw because in the pros tillman was really a cruiser and biggs was just little heavyer than tyson at about 225lb,please correct me if im wrong im sure u will cc cool thread

tillman did beat him twice but the dicission was outragous this fight is especially why i dispise amature scoring,he was cheated out of a gold medal

Amir Khan was the only one that won a medal (silver) in 2004 that I know of

Audley Harrison was the only one that won a medal (gold) in 2000 that I know of

last time that GB won multiple medals was in 1972
Ralph Evans = Bronze = Light Flyweight (no record as a pro)
Alan Minter = Bronze = Light Middleweight (39-9-0 with 23 KOs)(won multiple titles)
George Turpin = Bronze = Bantam weight (11-3-2 with 5 KOs)(fought a bunch of nobodies and retired after 4 years as a pro)

don't forget that 1996 US team w/ Floyd, David Diaz (curent interim beltholder at 135), Antonio Tarver and Vargas.

Olumpic boxing needs to take a serious look at it's scoring system........ and then make UFC an event.
