This same topic came up about PBF recently. Nobody that's boxing today is going to be considered ATG.
The only ones that may be considered close are:

Castillo is gonna spank Hatton.
CCa,gree with everything you said, except Castillo beating Hatton. Hatton will win,he's too young, too agressive and it's his weight class. I don't see anyone going toe to toe with the Hitman at 140 and getting the best of it,I just don't especially the way he dismantled Tszyu. I actually think Hatton deserves a lot more credit for that fight,I'm not a big Ricky fan but he was awesome that night and now,EVERYONE that said Tszyu would KO him in 5 etc etc is now saying that KT was old, over the hill etc. He had a long lay off but he was still a HOT favourite.
Oh man, is that another signature bet i smell? lol CC bro
Re: Is Ricky Hatton one of the All Time Greats?
Hatton is not even close to being All Time Good, much less great

I agree with all of that, I can't think of a better body puncher than him, and there's no one I'd rather pay to watch than Hatton, and Kostya Tszyu was top of a lot of people p4p listings. It doesn't mean he's an all time great in everyones books, but Barry McGuigan is in The Ring HOF, and I think if Ricky goes on to achieve a win over Castillo and Mayweather (Big IFs) then he's definatly an ATG.
Re: Is Ricky Hatton one of the All Time Greats?
He's definitely not an ATG, and I'm sure if he could be... he better handle welterweight better this time because there is a large concern with HBO not giving him enough fights that he will not be able to make junior welterweight for much longer.

If you think Meldrick Taylor is an ATG and Mayweather isn't than you have bulb lose... Meldrick didn't do anywhere near enough to be an ATG because he was destroyed that punch in round 12, and IMO Mayweather could beat any of those fighters you mentioned he would be too quick, and too good defensively for any ofthem.

His undefeated record has only 1 name on it, that in the future, will be vaguely remembered.

Does his victory over a diminishing 36 year old Kostya Tszyu make him on of the top fighters today.
Again...one name does not a GOAT record make.

Hatton turned down Floyd quite some time back...he said that he wasn't ready...both he & his team said that they needed a few more fights to get prepared for the challenge...that was just prior to his "win" over Colloza...that win was just prior to him moving back down in weight...which was right about the time that Floyd was preparing to defeat his 3rd man at 147lbs.
Boxing aint in that much trouble babe...people just refuse to take all the facts into account before they go ripping people's records & accomplishments apart. ;D

I didn't say that Meldric Taylor was an ATG, I said that Hatton wasn't on his level. Mayweather is not an ATG to me either, he COULD become one, just as Hatton COULD become one. But I don't think it's likely in either case at this point especially if Mayweather retires after ODLH, then what would Hatton's big goal be?
Re: Is Ricky Hatton one of the All Time Greats?
My vote is YES ! I Love this guy ! Ricky is a true "in your face, lets fucking go" type fighter. Just love him ! He is like a wild animal during the ring announcements, like " fuck off already" lets do it ! anyone that can make Kostya Tszyu quit. is a fucking legend ! JMO O0

His next 2 fights are done deals, if they go to plan then I think thats when we'll see if hatton can handle 147, if he loses any of the next 3 then I think his criticism will be well earned, until then, people who are just mouthing off risk egg on their faces again, like when he beat Tszyu.
The people who I respect when they speak know who they are, and won't get egg on their faces because they'll know the real deal when they see it and embrace it. Or, will be correct all along and I'll do the same, take what I see, accept that I'm wrong, and embrace what I see with open arms, becuase win or lose, this is boxing, anything can happen, and you gotta take the rough with the smooth.
Re: Is Ricky Hatton one of the All Time Greats?
He has all-time great skills and all-time great ability, and has beaten an all-time great fighter already.
He's heading for the Hall and beyond, if he beats Castillo and atleast runs Mayweather close.

Truth is of course Ricky isnt an all time great.
He's past victorys dont boast any kinda arguement to conter that.
Vince Phillips isnt an all time great... Is he?!
He is a great Light-Welter though.
ATG is a title for the special ones.
Re: Is Ricky Hatton one of the All Time Greats?
Of course Hatton couldnt be considered a great currently; what he does over the next ~2 years will determine how he will be remembered. He needs to create a bigger fan base for himself in the US to have any real form of legacy, and thats just what hes trying to do with this 3 fight contract he has with HBO. OK things havent gone quite to plan, what with barely scraping past Collazo and then going back down in weight, but im sure his next fights will be entertaining enough and will vwin him new fans. As his fan base grows he can make bigger fights as stepping stones to greatness, and taking Castillos scalp in 2007 would be a great start.
Re: Is Ricky Hatton one of the All Time Greats?
Not yet.
Not boxed + beaten enough big names.
SHORT + SWEET,just like me. :)
Re: Is Ricky Hatton one of the All Time Greats?
Wudn't put him in the top 5 best brits atm, let alone thik of him as an all time great - he could be maybe, but not yet, still big fights out there for him. Castillo, Cotto, mayweather, maybe corales..
