Like Mayweather, Joe could fight till he was a 100 years old and would still get people saying, well he only retired to avoid this or that fighter....it's opinions aint it bud, and thats life, but for my part I have to say that Joe has done all asked of him, he has been avoided far far more than he has ever avoided,and though it is only my opinion some of the fighters you mention as benchmarks by which Joe should be measured against are insulting to the New Undisputed Super Middle Weight & Old Age Slapper From Wales....

Joe Calzaghe is without doubt the real deal at super mid in his era......Fact, his stats, titles and longevity through his era are testament to that...

These guys had a combine record of 82-0 and have both fought and beat all the top contenders at super middleweight dominating most of the opposition and both these guys are overratted? Mikkel Kessler lost to the longest reigning champion in the weight divisions history in a competitive fight and he overratted. Clearly you have missed 39 of his fights. You could argue that before last night he has lost less than five rounds in is career. Also Joe would have faired well against all of those guy. I think he could even give Jones a good close fight but probably lose a decision.

The only Middleweight Clazaghe couldnt beat is Roy Jones Junior,who was superman. Other than Jones,JC gives most of the rest a battering. As for the other names,JC would absolutely WRECK Winky and JT and would beat Pavlik imo(although Kelly is a dangerous task for anyone!)

Tony would be a 50/50 fight.Could go ether way.

mclellan only had one fight at 168 and lost. calzaghe beats him decision

toney would be a real hard fight for joe. could go either way.

joe beats colins decision.

well i forgot to mention that he would have to have one arm tied behind his back too ;)

I went in last night supporting calzaghi, by the 7th round was cheering for kesslar. If kesslar throw some more punches he could of won the fight as joe was scared of his power. After the forth round battering calzaghi recieved he was running for the rest of the fight, spoiling kesslars boxing, but all credit goes to joe as thats not an easy thing to do. The 12th round said it all for me, when kesslar went for broke joe couldnt handle the heat, only if he did that for the last 3-4 rounds of the fight and we may have seen a different scoreline.

Concering calzaghi with older greats, would have beat ben, collins etc. Toney close fight

BUT Roy Jones would have given Calzaghi a WHOOPING of a lifetime. Calzaghi depends on his boxing skill when in trouble and is better than most at it, but Roy Jones was a boxing perfectionist on par with Floyd Mayweather, and had knockout power too. No contest Roy Jones.

I was singing Joes praises before the fight but have lost a little respect since, if he were to beat hopkins, and either pavlik, taylor or winky - i would class him as one of the very best fighters ever.

Calzaghe would have beaten everyone including Toney who only really beat one guy at 168 so going by that it's a bit difficult damm right foolish to predict he would beat Cazlaghe who was been unbeaten at 168 for over a decade.

As for Roy Jones.....he wasn't superman - he was awesome but to say Jones wins this fight easily is absolute nonsense. It would be a close fight. All i will say is.... Roy Jones would have struggled with Calzaghe coming at him and it would have made for an interesting fight.

Anyway to reel off a list of names who you stupidly believe would beat Calzaghe every time he whoops ass is just downright disrespectful.

Kessler showed alot of heart and skill , and it didnt come close enough
it was a hell diverse intense exciting matchup and joe passed with flying colours

Hes beaten all the lower tier challengers.. Manfredo is a credible challenger , not a test for a p4p'er but hes still easy top ten, Sakio is right up there

and Kessler was a legit champ, unified tried and tested, beaten mundine, beyer who regardless of factors was still a legit champ, beaten librado who was the most legit challenger in the division and whitewashed him

among all this who hes beaten and who his opponents have taken out hes done 168 hands down and got the pretty shiny belts to prove it..

And for the likes of moving up pavlik and taylor

Pavlik is not good enough a boxer

Pavlik wore down taylor because taylor was aggressive and had been unentertaining and underestimated pavlik.. all pav has is his power and range, hes not fast enough and joe has too many angles for pavlik

And as far as jermain goes, hes fully capable of winning a rematch but if he should fight joe all he had against the likes of spinks was busyness but it was clear that if spinks were busier he was able to outbox jermain.. joe is far too busy and fast/ well crafted enough to whitewash taylor no question..

Personally, I think that only one of those five guys in their prime would have beaten Joe, and that is Roy Jones Jnr, but I think Calzaghe would have given even RJJ a good workout for his victory.

The rest of them would struggle, and I think Benn and McClellan might have been beaten fairly badly.
I can imagine a similar thread to this popping up even if Hatton KO'd Mayweather in three rounds next month, some people just love to hate.

Why do so many think McClellan would beat Calzaghe? McClellan had some boxing skills, but seldom chose to use them. Joe boxes his socks off for a wide UD. I do think Jones would win, but did a prime Jones ever fight anyone as good and unorthodox as Calzaghe? His most notable wins were over a green Hopkins and a drained Toney. He wins, but it's a 7-5 type of fight; he doesn't run away with it. A fight with Toney is a coin toss. Which Toney shows up? If he's at his peak, I think he beats Joe because at his peak Toney is one of the best counter punchers of all-time. If he comes in drained like he did against Jones, he loses UD.
