Default To me Calzaghe still ain't that good.

Would he have beaten a peak Roy Jones at super middle ?
Would he have beaten a peak James Toney at super middle ?
Would he have beaten a peak Gerald McClellan at super middle ?
Would he have beaten a peak Steve Collins at super middle ?
Would he have beaten a peak Nigel Benn at super middle ?

I doubt it he would have beaten any of them, certainly not the 1st three. How good is he ? I still don't think he's that great, good, but not great. He beat Kessler (over rated) Lacy (over rated). For me he needs to beat one of Pavlik, Taylor, Hopkins or Winky Wright
He never really beaten a really BADDDDD fighter IMO. A real marquee fighter.

Would he have beaten a peak Roy Jones at super middle ? Hell no
Would he have beaten a peak James Toney at super middle ? No
Would he have beaten a peak Gerald McClellan at super middle ? No
Would he have beaten a peak Steve Collins at super middle ? Yes. Easily
Would he have beaten a peak Nigel Benn at super middle ? Yes

Spot on VD , Calzaghe is a fine fighter , but he wouldnt have lived with Toney/Mcclellen /Jones
he beats Benn inside 4 , and Collins gets stopped in 10 barely laying a glove on Joe.

I see your point but McClellan never won a fight at SuperMiddle. Not properly anyway. In fact, as big a puncher as G-Man was he only beat Jackson (big punch shaky chin) and a spent Mugabi.

    As for the others....
Jones. Probably not, but I doubt that any other SM could have. No shame in that.
Toney? Yes!!! His only win at SM was against Barkley who was KO'd in ONE by Benn.
Didn't Collins relinquish his title rather than face Calzahge?
Benn was/is one of my all time favourites. I watched so many of his fights live and so many on TV. I really think that a prime Joe C would dismantle a prime Benn. It's close but we'll never know.

I know that you think people are all overhyped over Calzaghes' win tonight but thats the nature of people. let it go.

Calzaghe could beat Benn easily but would lose to McClennan?

I have been a massive crititc of Calzaghe in the past but I eould give him a good chance against any middlewright past, present or future.

Kessler was not over rated, make no mistake about that. But i do question some of calzaghes ability now. Its his technique that throws me off. I just think there are some good fighters still out there with different styles that will be able to brawl with calzaghe and take his power and hurt him in the process. Saying that i think theres slick boxers out there who can still give him a run for his money. Like ive said, congrats and this is a great feat but theres still big fights to be made and to me im not totally sold on him just yet. A couple more fights and i will be.

Collins was sparked out unconscious when sparring for his fight v Calzaghe (Howard Eastman?) and realised that he was past it.

Why do people rate Collins so highly? He was a limited fighter who beat a shot Benn. Jones, Calzaghe, Toney, McClellan, Kessler all destroy him. I wouldn't be surprise if Manfredo gave him a run for his money. Collins was a mediocre fighter. Nothing more

I followed Collins throughout his career. It was strange. In Boston he was a cutie, then he lost to the Body Snatcher in a respectable bout, returned to the British Isles. It wasn't until the Chris Pyatt fight that he turned into a brawler.

I agree with you that He beat a shot Benn, but he did beat a decent Eubank - although Eubank was struggling a little at 168 by then.

I do think he's better than mediocre but I'm not as harsh as you are. However, he wasn't that good.

Collins lost to McCallum - Johnson - Kalambay - then he becomes wolrd champ lol
Eubank was struggling at SM , Benn had to many wars , he ducked Calzaghe , Collins was strong and durable thats all he had.Not forgetting his WBO middle win over Chris Pyatt lol

I said Manfredo gives Collins a run for his money. But I do think Collins does enough to pull out the close, highly controversial SD win. You see I got Collins winning
