Re: Yuri Romanov looked world class.
I thought Romanov was heading for world-class a while back, then he seemed to go off the boil a bit with the loss to Earl (reckon the excuses for that loss, mainly rustiness are well valid) but looked excellent against Thaxton.
Khan's mob have hinted at a Romanov match after Khan's last couple of fights.. bet they dont after tonight.

Jon Thaxton isnt world class so how can beating the crap out of him make you world class ??????
As for Khan , Romanov would be a good test for him.
He is European Champion making decent defences. Yeah Thaxton is British level but Romanov did absolutely nothing wrong. He long as good as you can against a southpaw puncher. He rocked Thaxton on numerous occasions. He he hits Khan clean, Khan is going down.
So baisically im right this fight doesnt make him WORLD CLASS .
Emanual Burton an off beaten journey man KOED Thaxton , was he WORLD CLASS TO ?????
So basically you're arguing for the sake of arguing because you're not reading what I'm saying. Beating Thaxton isn't what is making him world class, but its how he deals with the situation. Excellent balance, decent defence and completly nulifying his opponents attacks. He put together a clever gameplan and seems to be able to adapt to different styles. Tell me what he did wrong there?

Burton ,on his day could be a match for just about anyone.
Thaxton is a good fighter but a bit past his best.
Romanov looks better every time i see him. id definetly call him world class
Re: Yuri Romanov looked world class.
I think Romanov is a solid top 10 guy. I'd like to see Khan matched up against him next! Romanov is the sort of opponent Khan needs to fight to test himself on the world level. I think it would be a big step up for Khan & better for his development than fighting Thaxton

See now thats fairplay. A fight with him and Khan after last nights preformance would let me know who the real challenger is.
Re: Yuri Romanov looked world class.
What a complete waste he has not fought in 2 years, why? Unless he is dead that is.
Re: Yuri Romanov looked world class.
I agree.... Shouldn't be getting outboxed by Graham Earl though, not on any night.......

He was coming of a long lay off and even then put Earl down, but the way he destroyed Thaxton was quality. Exciting fighter who has wasted his career. WTF!!!
Re: Yuri Romanov looked world class.
I read a few months back on the Ring website, that he was in California sparring.
Here's the link Gym Notes: Angulo gets back to work

Romanov (21-2, 14 KOs) is a 27-year-old lightweight fringe contender from Belarus. He’s been inactive for almost two years due to contract dispute with his management and Russia-based promoter. Both fighters are trained by Ed Goumachian, who co-trains the Chudinov brothers.
On the question of whether or not he's world class...he certainly looked it against Bobby Vanzie who was 24-1-1 going into their fight. I got that fight on dvd...I'm not too familiar with Vanzie(maybe the British posters could help here) but he looked like the kind of guy that's hard to look good against but Romanov had him down 5 times and just beat the hell out of him from the opening bell.
Re: Yuri Romanov looked world class.
what a waste 2 years out of your prime because of a contract dispute, he should have changed his name and shaved hi head and carried on and screw his manager.
vanzie was a good fighter but retire for religious reasons, his victory over stephen Smith was good.
