p4p I rate Mike Mccallum above JC, rate him really high, but his best weight was below 168 and JC gets the nod.
Hearns nowhere near joe's level at 168 IMO, goes for Watson as well. G-man would be a barnburner (against a younger version of Joe), but I'd pick Joe to win again 8 out of 10 since he always finds a way to win in a tough fight, which is a quality he has that rarely gets appreciated, you can try and quantify and compare fighter's hand speed, power, chin, stamina, whatever- botton line is Joe is a winner.
I agree its an intersting thought, but apart from Roy who was truly special there is no one on that list who you could say with out doubt whould have destroyed JC at SM some good fights though
I agree about Jones being untouchable . Joe is my favourite active boxer but I admit hed not have beaten Jones.

The rest Joe would box their heads off.
Hopkins would get beat worse ??? to be fair you could argue he won at 43, imagine the Hopkins that faced Glen Johnson, that Hopkins would dominate Calzaghe.
Styles make fights, Hopkins would have opened up and been hit. The only way to beat Calzaghe is to let him lead whilst staying off the ropes. I think Taylor would be a tougher fight for Joe than Pavlik again styles.
Hopkins in his prime was still hard to hit, Calzaghe is not so hard to hit especially with the right hand, Hopkins best punch. combine his accuracy with a higher workrate and you got a Hopkins UD.

Toney had a very good workrate. I usually don't take Compubox seriously, but Toney had all kinds of great numbers in terms of punches landed, and in order to have that, his workrate had to be good.
Re: What Past Boxers Could Have Beat Joe Calzaghe ??
A prime Nigel Benn would have been able to i reckon. He was raw man!!A great britsh fighter, one of me favourites of all time!!!
"THE DARK DISTROYER!!!"
Re: What Past Boxers Could Have Beat Joe Calzaghe ??
You never know in boxing benn was great but was limited in the chin department all losses by stoppage. watson a good fight underrated i say he was the best out of benn eubank just a really unlucky fighter. roy jones was great and its a shame if calzaghe fights him now i hate when fighters get old and get beat from guys they would smash in their prime.

Robin Reid i think Robin did beat him first time he deserved rematch
Nigel Benn in his prime
Herol graham
Thomas Hearns
Sugar ray leonard
Bernard Hopkins in his prime
Steve collins
Glenn Johnson
The G man
I could probably think of more just a few off top of my head.
U really think Collins would have beaten Joe?
man I was a huge Colllins fan, really got me into boxing, I loved when he beat Eubank, they were great nights. but tbh he would not have had a hope against Joe.
Big Reid fan as well, he deserved a rematch but I had him losing(slightly)
Don't think Benn or Gman would have beat him either

People so hard on Calzaghe ,
Why is that so hard to believe ?? didn't Graham in his prime give McCallum razor thin close fight ?? and Kalambay ?? didn't he also beat the living hell out of Jackson until that punch out of nowhere ?? and remind me of how many slick fighters Calzaghe has fought ??

Its not what he did this is a bad style match up for Calzaghe fact, i really find it hard for Calzaghe to survive the Gman's onslaught early.

Not a well thought out thread.
Not a well thought out thread because its a question on who could have beaten one of your favorite fighters ?? its just a question and its got plenty of replies which means people were interested in the question, which is the whole idea. This isn't supposed to be an award winning thread.

Oh please you compared Hopkins to Skelton thats how much you know on Hopkins, if your such a big Calzaghe fan you would realize Calzaghe has struggled in rough fights before with Salem, Bika, Reid, etc which Hopkins was a master of in his prime and he even broke Glen Johnson's will. A young Hopkins was a punching machine and still had great skills to go along with it, the old Hopkins lost purely because he didn't have the work rate or the stamina to fight for the full 12 rounds which wasn't the case with the younger Hopkins, i suggest you do some homework on a younger Hopkins and don't just base him off a few of his older fights.

Hopkins in his prime didn't even open up too much. He just picked his shots better then he does now and could wear someone down.
Hopkins prime even the Hopkins that fought Trinidad, would beat Calzaghe

Leonard, hearns, Pavlik (lol), Hopkins?
man you hate Joe Calzaghe.
Re: What Past Boxers Could Have Beat Joe Calzaghe ??
All time i have to go Roy Jones UD, Hagler and Toney would have give Calzaghe a good fight i want to say Robinson but he only had one fight above 160.
Archie Moore at 175 is a tough fight for anyone and i think Bob Foster would also UD Joe in a tough fight.
