Re: Toney Rahman decision was terrible
It seemed like the doc was saying because Rahman said he couldn't see that that was his reasoning for stopping the fight. Plenty guys have fought on one-eyed (Lamon Brewster anyone) and it was the doc's responsibility to ask directly if Rahman wanted to continue. Rahman shares a little of the blame for being so vague before the fight was called. Either you wanted to continue or you didn't. That being said, if the doc made the determination that the fight had to be stopped it's a No-Contest. As much as I wanted Toney to be the winner, he didn't win. And what was with that explanation from the ref? He only makes the call for the fight to be stopped and not what the final decision is? If that's true then why did Ray Corona at first call it a No-Contest and then it was ruled a TKO? No, this should be reversed. But I DON'T want to see them go at it a 3rd time.

I'd say spherical!!
Seriously though, I hope he gets a shot and gets KTFO. I've never liked him or Rahman.

The situation was; The cut was ruled to be a result of a clash of heads, however neither the doctor or the referee deemed Rahman unable to continue after the cut was inspected.
Rahman himself ruled himself unable to continue claiming he couldn't see punches coming and said "I'm not fighting with one eye."
The fight was mired in so much controversy I completely forgot about the cut itself. I remember thinking, "Hey, that doesn't look that bad," and it makes sense that if the doc was saying it wasn't bad enough to be stopped by virtue of the cut and Rahman refused to continue then that's a TKO. Yes, it was a cut that came from a headbutt, but there are cuts and there are cuts. I guess if Jermain Taylor had complained about the cut from Hopkins' headbutt that would have been a TKO. It wasn't a fight-stopping cut. I've reversed my opinion: Rahman deserves the L for being a whiny baby. If he'd fought on (let's be real, Toney doesn't have real KO power at HW) they would have staunched the bleeding and the work Rahman put in in the first could have been repeated.
The doc wasn't able to explain himself clearly. I was still confused after his explanation.

He looked fat, but nowhere near as fat as usual.
It appeared he had done some weights on his traps and shoulders and he seemed fitter than in recent times.

I think the doctor informed the referee that Rahman said he couldn't continue, so the referee reported it as Doctor advsing the stoppage. I think!
I agree largely with what you've said, but I must mention Toney's head.
Famed for his granite chin, Toney's not adverse to allowing his hard head to bludgeon incoming opponents.
Like Hagler I don't think he does it intentionally, but he certainly doesn't avoid it. So I think the cut would have been a big isue later in the fight, which is why Rahman should have tried stop it on his terms!
Re: Toney Rahman decision was terrible
Absolutely nothing wrong with the desicion, Rahman quit on himself plain and simple... It was stopped because he told the doctor he couldnt see so thats why it was stopped... If Rahman kept his big mouth shut the stoppage would never have happened

The only fault i see is that if Rahman himself decides to quit before the doctors decision to stop the fight. If this is the case then the decision should be correct.
Yes but the fighter doesnt make that decision. Rahman was the main one trying to stop the fight.
Re: Toney Rahman decision was terrible
I'm not sure what to think...i've seen guys try to fight on with limbs damn near falling off, and it almost seemed like rahman was looking for exit knowing the cut rule. Either way to toney a win is a win so we're definatly gonna hear his mouth the next couple of weeks.

To be honest Mar, with the way the heavyweights are going these days, Toneys mouth would be refreshing as to add spice... Also be fun to hear Haye and Toney talking sh*t back and forth, since you know thats gonna be happening any day now
Re: Toney Rahman decision was terrible
I'm going all in with Toney, he's our only hope for an American heavyweight champ....Haye Vs. Toney sounds like a perfect matchup to me.

You know what, you are probably right, that mouth off would be classic, lol !!
Re: Toney Rahman decision was terrible
By the letter of the rule it was shady but at the same time the doctor wouldn't have stopped it if not for Rahman doing all he could to get him to stop it (outside of actually saying stop it)

Exactly. There was really nothing wrong with the decision if you ask me, Rahman didn't want to fight. When you think about how many guys have fought on with much worse cuts after being behind anyways in the later rounds, it makes Rahman look like a little girl for those antics last night. He milked that for everything it was worth during and after the fight, and obviously wanted the out. I can understand since the NC rule is in place for 4 rounds or under, he obviously expected to get that result. But the fact is he wanted the fight stopped when he could have continued.

And Toney was whipping his ass anyways;D
