I was not nervous going into that bout - over confident - but I learnt to be for a little while after that!
I was an adult so I didn't cry in front of anyone but sure had a new perspective on my own abilities after that!
Ok,
so I'm the only one that cried:gay5:
Great.

If my bro didn't know to make me laugh i would have bawled - that's what big brothers are for - they know that stuff.
Given a sympathetic pat and a few kind words rather than playful taunting I would have been just as messy as the next person!
I was twenty-something so I had a few years on you too!
Besides since when is crying embarassing when you've just done something 99 % of people would never have the guts to do in the first place!

Ha, it was embarassing looking back on it.
I had the tape and I took only two big punches.
That was enough to badly damage my nose and the referee called it.
I was actually fine, I had no problem continuing and it killed me.
It ate me up inside and I wanted desperately to improve.
I beat the guy in a return lasy year and that killed a lot of demons.
8 years later LoL
Re: What was your first amateur boxing fight like?
I wasnt nervous at all for my fight. I knew I was fighting somebody 10 yrs younger than me but wasnt worried, he introduced himself to me about an hour before our bout. The bad thing was that we were the last bout of the night. I was just nervous enough that I hadnt eaten anything since lunch and we didnt fight till close to 9pm. My trainer said I won the first round, but tired after that and didnt throw enough punches. Ended up losing by decision, which didnt bother me to much. Think I was to tired to care one way or another. I remeber how my neck hurt after the bout and for the next couple of days. Was happy I did it and am trying to get into shape to fight again.
Re: What was your first amateur boxing fight like?
I haven't had my first fight yet. I'm a late starter, I started at 28 years old (I'm 32 now). At first I wasn't planning on fighting even though sparring went better and better, I felt I had nothing to prove at my age. But I kept improving and recently decided that I will have at least a few fights. My first fight will probably in October. I can't wait.

Good luck in October. I was 33 when I had my first amatuer fight, and had only been in the gym for about 3 months. Wish I had the time to stay in it, trying to get back into it now.

I remember I was 13 and won my first amateur fight by tko in the 1st. I felt really bad because my opponent didnt look like he had ever even seen a boxing ring and I could see the fear in his eyes. I was only boxing for 4 months or so myself and a week later the tables were turned and I faced one of the top j.o.'s in region and was stopped on my feet. But that was all over a decade ago and im still fighting today.

Good to hear I'm not the only late starter. I have the body of a 20 year old though :D
When I started boxing I was a fat slob, almost 50 pounds heavier than I am now. At the moment I am a 5'9" light welter, perhaps I can even get down to lightweight.
