Mosley tries to beat fighters at their own game. He doesn't box against a slugger, he slugs with them. He boxes against boxers. I don't know why he does it but that's what he does.
He looked great against Collazo cause he fought Collazo's style, better than Collazo.
Good point,Im still trying to figure out what he was doing against Wright? He seemed caught in between styles and could not phase winky in the slightest.Winky has him solved and sorted.
Re: Was Mosley even 50% of what he was against Cotto?
I think Mosley's problem with WInky besides, the fact WInky is winky and Vernon was Vernon is that he has never been a great boxer. He is a really good boxer-puncher, but when Mosley is fighting off his back foot against somebody with a jab I think he has a lot of trouble as do most fighters. Only guys like Leonard, Mayweather, Jones, Hearns, ALi, and Pep have been really effective fighting like this. Mosley needs to transition between movement and offense if he is going backwards, and thats why I think Winky and Forrest controlled him so easily because everytime he tried to come forward they could see it, and halted it with the jab. Thats the one thing I think Oscar didn't do against Mosley that would have allowed him to win the first fight(I felt he won the second fight anyways) He never truly tried to back Mosley up, instead he tried to outbox Mosley, which he did in the second fight.

Please retire Shane.
Quite simple why YOU think SSM looked bad....
2 things....
1. Size difference (if you didn't see it your blind)
2. Styles make fights
;)
Anyone who judges SSM on last nights fight is blind IMO.
Re: Was Mosley even 50% of what he was against Cotto?
Was he losing? I didn't see it but I saw that ESPN had Mosley up by three rounds going into the 12th. Not like that's definitive or anything.
I thought this would be an easy fight for Shane

Mayorga came into the ring as a Light Heavyweight...
He looked huge compared to SSM.
I had SSM wining and it was a hard fight at times for SMM because of the size difference.
Matter a fact if Mayorga landed more then 5 significant punches throught the fight I'd be surprised... They were far and few.
Where as SSM tagged him and fucken cought him flush but the bigger Mayorga took them like nothing.
Re: Was Mosley even 50% of what he was against Cotto?
I was picking Mayorga By Ko, Atleast I had hoped. But I did say if Mosley boxed him he would get him out of late, But if he brawled Mayorga would Ko him. It looked like my perdiction was right on Q in the first two rounds, Because Mosley looked scared to mix it up and Mayorga hurt him a few times but then Mosly started to box him and Mayorga lost once again to a top fighter..........Oh well shat happens but atleast I get to see Pavlik knock out Hopkins.;D

Until Shane got him late ofcourse . Until then there was no indication that Mosley could take him out like that
Mayorga has never been layed out like that and hes fought guys like Tito and Oscar . Mayorga said he was surprised how hard Mosley hit him . Youve already mentioned the weight difference so given these facts I duno why people are being so harsh on Shane I think what he did was pretty impressive TBH
Re: Was Mosley even 50% of what he was against Cotto?
Bah Baldomir was 163 against Mayweather weighed in at 149, and Mayweather comprehensively outboxed him over 12 rounds, and Baldomir is a much better schooled fighter than Mayorga, and he still couldn't do anything. Oscar must have weighed in 10-15 pounds heavier then MAyweather as well, and Mayweather totally negated his physical advantages. Roy fought larger LHW's and made them look a lot worse than him like Virgill Hill. I am criticizing Mosley for not fighting those type of fights against Mayorga when he should be able to.

Baldy is a whole lot more predictable than Mayorga plus he hits nowhere near as hard
Besides Shane knocked Mayorga clean out whereas Floy never came close to dropping Baldimor.
Re: Was Mosley even 50% of what he was against Cotto?
Mosley does what he needs to do to win. He was correctly tentative for the first two rounds while he was figuring out Mayorga's style and judging his power. Mayorga actually fought a very good fight last night. It was probably as as good a performance as he was capable.
Shane didn't have the weapons to look good against Mayorga. Most people don't. ODLH is one of the few, because he has solid, meaningful jab, perfect footwork, and excellent one-shot power - the kind to stun a guy like Mayorga with one punch.
For the first half of the fight, I though Shane looked old, but in hindsight, he was just being tactical. He looked great once he had Mayorga figured out. Then he systematically broke down and KO'd a much, much larger man. Even take the final KO punch. He was dropping righ after right after right on him. Mayorga gets up, and Mosley is throws a Roy Jones-eque lead left hook right on the button - knowing the Mayorga was focused on the right and Mayorga never saw that punch coming.
I wouldn't mind seeing Shane take one more crack a Vernon.

Styles do make fights and even a middling boxer takes Mayorga to school. If you didnt see Shane totally neglect his jab and just try and bomb everything you must be blind ;D
Maybe Shane just cannot box and move anymore.

It's kind of ironic then that the entire HBO team, virtually everyone on here and all the other media 'experts' roundly criticised Floyd's performance against Baldimor as wholly negative and uninspired. I remember Merchant and Steward saying that any truly 'great' fighter would engage with Baldomir and go for the knockout, try and make it entertaining for the fans.
Yet Mosely does exactly that and you think he should have stayed on the outside and boxed Mayorga, giving us another insipid Mayweather Baldimor type fight.
Interesting.......but I think I know what type of fight most fight fans would want to see.
Oh and one more thing, If Mayorga and Baldomir ever fight, my money is on Mayorga absolutley kicking Baldy's ass :)

Did he neglect his jab in the 10th, 11th, and 12th, particularly the 11th when he snapped Mayorga's head back several times and stopped him in his tracks a couple more times.
Mosley has a unique style. He's boxer-puncher, but not a boxer-puncher in the typical mould, like an Arguello, a Pavlik, a Forrest. He's part brawler, but unlike most brawlers, he has defense and counters extremely well. He adapts during fights.
Mosley is who is he is. He hasn't been a "box and move" fighter for almost 10 years.
