Re: Size Limit on Heavyweights?
Vitali, Wlad would beat Valuev by KO, I'm almost certain.
And please remember that Chagaev gave him a boxing lesson. Valuev won very close Decission agaisnt Ruiz and Larry Donald, who according to me are not at the same level as Tyson and Lewis were comparatively :-)

Re: Size Limit on Heavyweights?
Sorry for the double post.
but in fact that has been a discussion for years. I'm still convinced (being a small heavyweight myself) that a good small boxer would outslaught a bad tall one. Of course agaisnt boxer like Lennox or Wlad it's problematic. they can box and they're pretty big. But even then, Tyson would have ko wlad like corey sanders was able to do. being tall and heavy doesn't mean that you're fast, strong, have stamina, are smart enough, have the will and the experience to take punch.
The fact that tall boxer have an advantage of reach is something, but honestly, I still remember small boxer putting down Primo Camera (who was a MONSTER at the time).
Re: Size Limit on Heavyweights?
I konw what you guys are saying about skill versus size but what happened to wanting to see talented boxers such as ali tyson dempsey this division is becomong a freak show and it is getting boring its ratings are at an all time low there is a reason for that and it is because they cannot box (with the exception of a few) they are just huge,What would you rather see an era like the 60s or now.To me there is no comparioson and the reason is the size it is not fair to expect a man to box another man with a 150lbs weight advantage considering other divisions give out about 5 or 6 lbs.I want to see boxers in the heavyweight division again not this crap who only gets to the yop because of some ridiculas unfair advantage, i think there should be a cut off point of 280lbs if you over that join the circus i am a boxing fan not someone who wants to see mindless punching
Re: Size Limit on Heavyweights?
yeah I hear you and can understand, but back on days I was fighting, if it was against a 280lbs boxer I wasn't worried at all. in fact he can't have speed and stamina I had at 230 plus they often only rely on power...which they can't do on a 4 rounders.
but ok, Valuev is something different...he's so huge that yes, he can easily win against average contender. but agaisnt a lewis, klitchko or even Chagaev (who defeated him)...I soncerely doubt.

Cruiserweight - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This division was created in a different era for the same reason i am stating if you look at the size of the heavyweights then they are tiny compared to todays so the argument that the cruiserweight division is there for this reason goes out the window considering 6'5 250lbs was huge back then and is average now, were talking about 7'2 350lbs a man of 210lbs should not have to fight this, so the cruiserweight was created for a different era altogether

I hear you but what i said is 280lbs is fine because they are no so huge that they cannot be beaten by a good boxer but after 280lbs they should have to go to some silly monster division because they are gaining status based soly on size not skill and that is not what boxing is about.
The heavyweight division was once watched by the whole world everyone knew who the champ was.Can you say that now, no and it is because its crap, ands its crap because people are getting by on size instead of skill.
A few people have said to me so far in this thread that a good small boxer will beat a big one well not always true because the russian cant fight and he is ranked pretty high with only one defeat but pound for pound almost all his opponants were better than him.He has to much of an advantage after 280lbs they should not be eligble to box in the heavyweight division
Re: Size Limit on Heavyweights?
if they had like a super heavyweght catagory it would be fkin terrible quality. The heavyweight division is shit enuff as it is, oh how i miss the holyfield, tyson, lewis, bowe days
this is why i am always going on abt how good haye is for the sport, good looking, great physique, cocky everything we need now lets prey he is the real deal
Re: Size Limit on Heavyweights?
I miss them days as well.I agree that a bigger division would be awful so why let this crap polute the heavyweight division, let them train and get into fighting shape like the rest of us have to do and if they cant make the weight piss off because they have had it handy to long all fighter kill them selves getting in grat shape watching there weight and these slobs drag themselves to the ring beat a better man than themselves and bore the arse off the fan. They should have to make weight like every other division
