I would not have put it that way. He had skill to go along with speed and power. He outboxed some pretty good boxers. The only reason he didn't do it more often is because hardly anyone lasted long enough.Quote:

Tony Tucker broke his right hand after the 4th round, he was ahead after 4 rounds. And after the broken hand he went into a defensive shell, so you can't honestly tell me that his broken hand didn't effect him, especially considering he was up against Mike Tyson for crying out loud. But Tony Tucker still managed to win the last round with a broken hand, and survive 3 quarters of the fight with a broken hand takes bottle. Especially up against someone like Mike Tyson.Quote:

It was simply because he was an amazing fighter.
I didn't see any signs that Tucker could beat Tyson I think it's a bit of a stretch to think that he would ever have won that fight on the basis that he had one good punch and a couple of decent rounds. He was soundly beaten and only won 3 rounds imo.
Tillis was a good fight, but also an excellent win based on the fact that it was only a year after Tyson turned pro and was a massive step up in class for Tyson.
As I always say if Tyson had've retired after the Spinks fight (a.k.a in his prime) kind of like Marciano did ;) Not a single person that calls themslves a Boxing fan, expert, pundit, writer or whatever else, would have Tyson outside the top 5 Heavies of all time and a huge amount would have him top 2. IMO people's views are tainted by what Tyson became and that's understandable, becuase it's very hard not to think that those flaws and weaknesses weren't always there, but imo after Spinks Tyson was there for the taking, before Spinks he was superhuman and it's at that point that I judge him.

Mike Tyson is one of the guys who got me into boxing as well but I just hate when people overstate what he was. He was a champion and a good one, he wasn't the greatest he wasn't close to being the best, he's better than most but he had a short prime and after losing to Buster Douglas he never did anything I think was all that great or worth notice besides losing to Holyfield and Lewis and obviously fighters don't get credit for losing.
I think had he fought some different fighters int he 1990's he wouldn't even have made it to Holyfield. Ray Mercer springs to mind as a guy who wasn't all that great who could have beaten Tyson up.
There were a ton of fighters I would have loved to see him take on: Moorer, Morrison, Mercer, McCall, Bowe, Briggs, Rahman, Ruiz, Tua, and maybe even Wladimir and Vitali.
I miss the excitement Tyson brought to the Heavyweight division.
Whew! I'm still watching some of his fights even up to now. :cool:
Amazing how someone who had a thing slipping mentally within , still had some fighters beaten (mentally themselves) before they even got in the ring.
Tyson played every thug/evil monster card he had to great success, then belived it himself. Strange cause there was a little kid searching for love he never had behind the driving seat the whole time.
The fighters who fought well against him had some real gumption and skill.
Douglas had belife and faith on top.
Personally I would have died in the corner on my seat when he came out snarling at me when he was in his prime.That was the main weapon and the main attraction. Fear.

he did have an impressive reign though, he had 4 years of dominance, more than Holyfield, more than Leiws, in that Lewis longer reign came after a KO defeat, Mike was seen as invincible and ive read but not seen myself that writers were saying Ali could be knocked off the top spot.
When Mike was doing what he was told he was a very dangerous man to face, even Holmes said Mike was very difficult to land on and quicker than he expected.
No other heavy fighter had all Mikes gifts, those combinations with the speed and power, he was amazing to watch, he could avoid shots, he had shit hot reflexes.
Mike on form could have beaten any other fighter, any fighter.

You always bring this up. He broke his hand, so did Clottey against Marg, does not mean Tyson would not have caught up with him anyway. Maybe it was a blessing, because Tucker may have opened himself up for a KO.

How can you say Tyson's name in the same sentence as Frazier? He retired after being beat 4 times twice off 2 men. Who were they? Ali and Foreman. Frazier beat everyone else and a lot more world class fighters than Tyson ever did. In fact every time Tyson fought a world class fighter (3 times Holy twice and Lennox) he got his ass kicked.Quote:
