WBO title counts buddy, if not well you can cut out a bunch of great champions titles, such as two of Barrera's reigns, now 2 of Miguel Cotto's world titles, etc
I do. I don't consider beating Michael Jennings for a vacant title enough to be called champion.
well Cotto's first championship was also the WBO title at 140, and if you didn't consider him a champion there well you're pretty far off, also using your logic of the WBO title having no credibility Paul Williams should still not be considered a champion, much less a 3 time world champion in 2 divisions
also just throwing this out there i rank Montiel higher than Darchinyan like many do, and the only title Montiel had in that weight class was the WBO, if any world titles should be considered jokes it should be the WBA and IBF

The WBO at one time was a 'start me up' trinket.Akin to the USBA-NABF as a stepping stone for relinquishing on the way to the three major trinkets.More letters for the soup.

I didn't see it either, but if this is what he was referring to... then I agree with him.
For example, no one should count Oscar's 160-pound belt. Felix Sturm was not a middleweight champ. He had a belt, but he wasn't a champ. Bernard Hopkins was the champion, and Oscar didn't beat him. (You could make the case that Oscar didn't beat Sturm either, but that's a separate discussion).
The whole belt system is a joke, and that's why it's ridiculous when guys refer to themselves as 6 time champs or 7 time champs or 10 time champs or whatever.

If the WBO title counts then why is Roy Jones Jr considered the second Light Heavyweight champ to become Heavyweight Champ and not Michael Moorer?

VD is correct. Unless it is for a direct re-match, you should really have to win a fight before fighting for the championship again, Cotto should never have been in a position to fight Jennings. Jennings should be made Champion!
The whole thing is a farce, read the WBA thread etc, and it is really pissing me off that Khan is fighting for a title after never really fighting in the weight, bar one fight against some donkey 3 years ago. How can Khan be fightig for a title when he has never beaten anyone in the top 10 in lightweight or light-welterweight?

Over the WBO? :lolhaha: There pretty bad themselves. But dead men don't move up in the IBF and WBA rankings

I lost all confidence in atlas when i saw how he called urango-ngoudjo RBR
Herman was getting out worked almost from the get go to the last bell and atlas despite 3judges and a few million at home who saw a 1sided beat down had a complete lopsided hometown decision for ngoudjo!!!!

Oscar is not a 10 time champion. Atlas is right. Oscar is a 10 time titleist.
Everytime someone wins an alphabet trinket, they are not the champion.

Me too. The 10-8 round he scored when Urango knocked him down twice was obsurd.

I don't feel strongly about Atlas either way really.
All I know is that he is good barometer for knowing who not to go with in a fight prediction. ;D
haha and with you being the other one :p
Back on topic, good on Teddy Atlas, Oscar ain't no 10 weight world champ, he may have picked up a lot of trinket belts a few of them don't count as meaning much.
In fact I can't even see the reason for the thread as countless posters on here over the years have criticised whether he's a 10 titles champ, a 6 weight world champ, whether he's beaten an all time great in their prime etc.
Atlas was merely voicing the opinion of many.
Re: Inappropriate comments by Teddy Atlas
Oscar at one point and time was considered #1 at each of the following weight classes, Jr. Lightweight, Lightweight, Jr. Welterweight, Welterweight, Jr. Middleweight, FACT, only division that he was never considered champion would be Middleweight and there is no disputing that fact, hell he was even the Unified Champion at 154, don't get confused with Undisputed cause i'm not saying that he was, but he was considered the man to beat at 154, until he was robbed against Mosley in the 2nd fight, then Wright went on to whoop Mosley twice and become the UNDISPUTED JR. Middleweight champ, DLH/Wright should of happened, and it's a damn shame it never did, a real pick em fight and i think it would have been very competitive

Same reason I cant give Lennox Lewis as much credit for being undisputed because both his title reigns started by fighting for a vacant title:mad:
Holyfield had to gather the titles for Lewis to only scrape a draw then get awarded a sympathy win in the rematch because he didnt earn it on merit.
