While I know little about the opponents I saw him fight (my knowladge doesen't go that far back much), they are clearly world class and the commentators emphaise this. My question is how did he do so well and go undefeated in like 80 fights? This isnt a knock on him I just don't see how some people think he would beat Hagler
I've often said Monzon is vastly underestimated. You said in the above comment what a boat load of others have said and I'm certain will continue to say. I don't blame you guys but here's some advice watch closer and watch in detail. When you watch him just analyze the movements he does whether it's step left or step right watch and see what follows. More often then not a double jab or a straight right. Sure he's not PBF lightning fast but he's "Finito" Lopez smart. He's one step ahead of you. He step left you rotate and reach and bam! as you rotate he's already jabbed you.
Just watch the Napoles fight that holmcall put, albeit Napoles a natural Welterweight but Napoles is one of the most naturally gifted boxers to ever grace the sport. So beating someone like him is no easy task.
I have about 23 of Monzon's fight mostly his title fights and a couple of his early/in between fights.
As noted Monzon was Ricardo Mayorga x5 with looks and a "playboy" persona. Stories of having relations in his dressing room prior to fights along with drinking.
As mentioned by THIRDMAN a movie should def. be made and IMO he's the greatest Middleweight of all time.
