Re: Robin Reid V Joe Calzaghe
I think Reid deserved a rematch, him and Hopkins came the closest to beating Calzaghe but out of the Two I think Reid managed to boss Joe more than Bernard did, he deffinitly deserved a rematch and Warren missed a trick because there was the possibilty of recreating another Benn and Eubank rivalry, seeing as they genuinly didnt like each other either.
I think the rematch would have been even more fierce than the first.
Joe hates Robin because Robin stole his place in the Barcelona Olympics and only because the selecters didnt like Joes style, I think?
The only time iv ever heard Joe say anything complimentary about Robin was when he was due to fight Froch, he did say something along the lines of he has a chance becuase he has heavy hands;)
Re: Robin Reid V Joe Calzaghe
Reid fought Joe during his boring and injury period which was why he came so close to beating him. It was the time he also fought Starie, in one of the most boring fights in history. After that Joe beat everyone easily from Omar Sheika on wards. I think he had an elbow injury and gave up playing golf that made the difference.
Re: Robin Reid V Joe Calzaghe
Reid should of got the win

Calzaghe won, no doubt it was closeish but I think you need to be a Calzaghe hater to actually score it against him if you scored it round by round (like you should and like a judge does). To me it was one of those fights that if you just watched it and didnt score it round by round youd think well Reid landed most of the good shots so I reckon he won, which I guess is what some people do.
Actually according to the punchstats they landed almost the exact same punches, so i don't see how he really outworked Robin Reid, unless you count slaps on the arms and gloves.
Most of Joe Calzaghe's punches wern't hurtful, where as Robin Reid was constantly rocking Joe Calzaghe's head back. I think its a bit silly to say you have to be Joe Calzaghe hater, to score it against him.
Robin Reid landed the more accurate/telling blows. As i said rocking Joe Calzaghe's head back many times and landing good body shots, i thought for certain Robin Reid edged it.
I admit im not a Joe Calzaghe fan, but that doesn't mean i scored in a biased way which i didn't. Im not really a Robin Reid fan either.
I'll give you an example i love Evander Holyfield as a fighter. But i still think he lost twice to Lennox Lewis, and twice to John Ruiz.

That's cuz deep down inside they know Joe deserved the loss.
Re: Robin Reid V Joe Calzaghe
1. my brother robin reid was'nt offered a rematch because calzaghe was running scared.
2. He beat ottke hands down and everybody in boxing agrees.
3. I was ringside at the calzaghe fight and most people said robin had won.
4. robin was messed around whilst in florida, laceys camp changed robins hotel and he had to train in the new hotels gym.
5. Robin was'nt in the right frame of mind personally due to problems privately at the malinga fight.
6. He outclassed warton so people need to know the facts before commenting.

The Ottke fight was disgusting! wasn't Reid warned for actually hitting at one point? lol very frustrating to watch.
I also read for the lacy fight Reid had to do pads by the pool of the hotel and wasn't given much help in finding somewhere decent to train. Shitty and unprofessional way to treat a fellow pro who travelled a long way.
I was a big fan of Reid i still have my old videos and fight dvds of him. Didn't get done many favours. Looking forward to prizefighter

He also got twatted by a Lacy right hook while he was turned facing and talking to the ref during a break! Only to get a count for it, then in the same fight, Lacy goes down and the ref actually gives him a helping hand up!! That was also a cunt of a ref as well as that fat walrus in the Ottke fight:rolleyes:

Forgot about that ref helping Lacy up! what a joke that was and i'll never forget the Ottke fight i couldn't believe what i was watching must be some of the worst reffing i ever seen. Refs can make mistakes and stop fights too early or too late, that can be down to human error under pressure, the ottke ref was just blatantly corrupt.
in the middle of writing this i thought i'd check the refs name - Roger Tilleman. Googled him and it brought up a lot of other forum results where people are slating him.
Turns out he was a judge in the Kessler v Froch fight and scored 117-111 in favour of kessler. not got a problem with Kessler getting the nod but it just goes to show how shit some people can be, it's not incompetence it's complete disregard for decent sportsmanship.
I'd love to be a ref/judge even if my favourite fighter was competing i'd score it fairly, if he lost i'd make sure my card showed that.

Im actually training to be a ref and have spoken to some, only amateur refs mind. I have been told some refs like Mickey Van were in promoters pockets and would get told they have to let their fighter go on if hes out on his feet, they have to let him take the punishment and keep them in the fight, if they want to keep getting those reffing jobs. Obviously, lots of favouritism too.
They get paid 10% of the fight purse. If Floyd does fight Pacquiao and its a 100 million fight, the ref for that would get 10 million and he doesnt even have to train!!
Re: Robin Reid V Joe Calzaghe
Good for you!
It doesn't surprise me about refs being in promoters pockets one bit. I didn't even realise refs were paid or i thought they might receive a small fee but thought it would be mainly expenses.
10%? that's shocking when you consider some of the purses on offer. Not bad for the best view of the fight ;D
Re: Robin Reid V Joe Calzaghe
How the fuck can the ref be on 10% of the overall fight purse? Someone must be pulling your leg? ;D
Why would Team Floyd/Manny give $10million to a guy to do a job millions would do for free? If I was a top Vegas ref i'd start subtlly bumping the others off.
I've read about managers/team members (Frank Maloney with Lennox Lewis) being reduced to 1% of their fighters purse in these mega fights. I would expect the ref to be on less than that.

Just look at Joe Cortez during the Floyd/Hatton fight. No one can tell he wasn't in Floyd's promotor's pocket. ;D (for the record floyd still would've won with a FAIR referee but the point remains).
Re: Robin Reid V Joe Calzaghe
if anyone is interested i thought reid won
i wasnt upset that he didnt tho

oh yeah Cortez was bad that night, i agree Floyd would have still won but the reffing was bullshit, i actually thought Cortez was ok until that night now i can't stand him!
