Its stupid to compare previous fights. Pac is at least 4X more popular after the Hatton and DLH victories.
50-50 is fair imo.
Re: Just in: FLoyd loses round one against PAC in Negotiations
Well....
Here's what I think. 1. Pacquiao was called out by Mayweather, 2. Pacquiao is holding the WBA Welterweight title belt. 3. Pacquiao should defend the belt with at the maximum limit of 147lbs. 4. Pacquiao should go into the ring last. and 5. The split should be 51/49 toward the Title holder.
Re: Just in: FLoyd loses round one against PAC in Negotiations
Pac v. Cotto did 1.25 million buys. (Pacquiao-Cotto Generates 1.25 Million Pay-Per-View Buys - Boxing News) Puerto Ricans accounted for 110,000 buys. It was a more compelling matchup than Mayweather v. Marquez must be part of the reason it did better numbers.
Good year for boxing, Pac/Cotto (1.25M), PBF/Marquez (1M), Pac/Hatton (850K). Also, first time in a decade, boxing had two fights that did more than 1 million buys.
I like Freddie Roach's idea of 50/50 split with the winner taking a big bonus. Both guys get 10M and the winner takes another 10M etc. Pacquiao-Mayweather: Roach Says 50-50 Gets it Done - Boxing News
Pac does have the belt though and had to fight a tougher opponent in his last fight to get it.
Re: Just in: FLoyd loses round one against PAC in Negotiations
As Roy Jones said to Hopkins "lets make it 60 to the winner 40 to the loser", thats what it should be and if you offered that to Floyd I think he'd take it, not sure Roach would let Pac take it! Roach has too much say if you ask me!

But Floyd did call those 2 guys out. Its common knowledge already.
Also, lets not forget that JCC jr. was on the card & is a successful draw by himself.
I'd say this actually gives Mayweather more leverage in negotiations. He did 1 million against an average draw in JMM, while Pac did 1.2 against a good draw in Cotto with another good draw in JCC jr. on the undercard.
I love that 60 to the winner idea tho. I don't see why the fighters would disagree to that. But i can see why their camps would.
Re: Just in: FLoyd loses round one against PAC in Negotiations
Why couldn't things just be easy when it comes to these negotiations.. 60 for the winner 40 for the loser is always a fair negotiation, one which I wish more fighters went with.
Re: Just in: FLoyd loses round one against PAC in Negotiations
Why are people acting like these guys are taking forever?!
It's not even been a week since the Cotto fight. Mayweather is hardly the easiest man in the world to deal with, whilst Pacquiao has a history of taking all the time in the world to sort a deal for a fight (Oscar, Hatton & Cotto all dragged on 1-3 months).
Give them at least 2-3 weeks before we act like they're taking forever with negotiations.
Re: Just in: FLoyd loses round one against PAC in Negotiations
There are many rounds to go but in the end the fight will be made because too much money to be made and a lot of egos to manage.

and it was a comeback fight for floyd, people are curious. that and it's against an opponent pac had trouble with. anyways, i think this fight will eventually get made on even terms.

That is true, but yes ok Pac-Cotto is the better fight than Floyd-Marquez but reports are coming out that is did close to 2 million, that smokes anything Mayweather has ever done I think that has big big power when comes to negotiating.
Lets not forget Mayweather has also been groomed as a p4p boxing superstar for many many years before we new who Pac was, so it's taken time for Pac to become the ppv star he now is.
Like i said after the last performance imo Pac would do more buys than Mayweather if they fought the same fighter, for instance id put the house on say Pac-Mosley doing more than Mayweather-Mosley After his last performance Pac has become the premier star in the boxing world imo, the best no I still think Floyd beats him but for me he is the star now.
This is wrong. PBF v DLH did 2.15 million buys, PBF v Hatton did 1.5 million buys. It sounds as tho Pac v Cotto did 1.6 million buys. So to say that Pac v Cotto smoked anything Floyd has done is just a straight out lie. Mayweather did a million buys with Marquez even when up against a UFC card which would have had a negative effect on that fights numbers.
You're wrong with both, Mayweather-ODLH did 2.4, while Pacquiao-ODLH only did 1.25, Mayweather-Hatton did 0.915, while it did over a 1 million on sky sports. Pacquiao's did about 0.825-0.85ish with less overseas. Mayweather did 1.05 million against MArquez while Pacquiao-Marquez II did 0.4 buys.
I don't think there is any evidence that Pacquiao is quite the draw Mayweather, and the fact that the very popular Miguel Cotto only gave Pacquiao 0.2 more buys than Mayweather against Marquez doesn't help his cause.

I doubt that honestly. Pacquiao was already going to be a huge success because of his all action style and give and take trading and wars he could put on and the knockouts he produces, he is much more marketable. Mayweather was and is a pure boxer who doesn't always knock people out. Pacquiao to me would have an easier time becoming a draw because of his style then Mayweather would strictly on style imo.

Mayweather had more then 2 million against Oscar.
According to the numbers now, Pacquiao vs Cotto did 1.25 million PPV buys. If you ask me, Mayweather doing 1 million with Marquez and Pacquiao only managing 250'000 more against someone as popular as Cotto doesn't say much for his drawing power over Floyds. Even if we look at when Pacquiao fought Marquez the second time it was only about 440'000.
Mayweather's still the bigger draw.

I'm with you Jaz, I won't be paying any attention at all to pre fight negotiations over either money or weight, I couldn't care less.
The fight will happen in 2010 for sure so just look forward to it happening then, but in the meantime just enjoy the other fights, starting with Kessler Ward tonight.

I recall when Maywether was offering to fight Mosley he put a time qualifier on it right after Mosley fought. I also recall Maywether saying the reason he picked JMM to fight was because he had a whole country behind him. This was his main reason for not making a fight with Cotto or Mosley.
