Re: Andre Berto Pulls Off The Upset Shane Mosley Is Getting Overrated.
When Berto steped up to fringe world class opposition he was less than spectacular.....He beat Collazo in a razor thin decision and boxed circles around Urango, a jr welter that is slow as molasis and predictable but was there for the taking.
Mosley has beat Vargas (KOx2), Collazo (dominated), Cotto (Narrow Loss), Mayorga (KO), Margarito (KO).......
HUGE difference in competition just looking at each of last 5 fights......
I think Mosley is fighting with new purpose and is going to beat Berto by TKO.....
Re: Andre Berto Pulls Off The Upset Shane Mosley Is Getting Overrated.
I think if anything you over rate Berto, I think he is one of the most over rated fighters out there, depends how the year out has effected Mosley, but if Berto wins which is a possibility I think it's more to do with Shane's inactivity.
Berto should be fighting Collazo he has unfinished business there.
Re: Andre Berto Pulls Off The Upset Shane Mosley Is Getting Overrated.
Well, I've been saying in any thread that mentioned it that I think that Berto beats him, you're free to go back & check Ice. If he avoids fighting in spurts so much & builds a lead against Shane early, I think he can do it. Shane often takes his time to get into a fight these days & as good as he looked against Margarito, that was also his night to prove everyone wrong. I think he may lack the motivation against Berto, but in all honesty the reason I think Berto will win is because you can never predict how he's going to fight. He makes adjustments & gets a little better every time. I'm by no means discounting Shane, I see it as a 50/50 fight, but I just have a feeling Berto surprises a lot of people.

I'm not mad keen on Berto but generally in boxing when two top fighters meet, a young champion or the heir elect versus the old champ, it seems the young guy wins more often than not.
I think Mosely is a better fighter but if I was a gambling man I'd go with the law of probability I guess and take Berto, even though I think Mosely will win, if that makes any sense at all.
Finally I know Berto claims to have God on his side, but Mosely has juice on his, and juice is generally a more reliable ally during a fight.
Re: Andre Berto Pulls Off The Upset Shane Mosley Is Getting Overrated.
Berto is stuck in between styles far too often to be called a sound technical fighter..he literally cannot make up his mind at times and forces mistakes.Anyone that says Mosley was shot in with Mayorga is off their rocker.I still believe that fight was all about Mosley making a statement, getting rough and rugged with Mayorga going into the Margarito fight.I dont see Berto with the endurance, resilience, strength and experience of either of those two.Once Mosley catches Berto falling in and looking to clinch afterwords on those stiff legs I expect Mosley to carve him up badly and take him to neighborhoods he has never come close to walking through.

This.
Berto's inside game sucks, his footwork sucks and his defence sucks.
On the flipside his handspeed is disgustingly fast and he has decent power.
My take: Mosley is going to use his superior timing to knock Berto's weak stance off balance all night long on a dominant performance, with Berto hitting the canvas twice.
Re: Andre Berto Pulls Off The Upset Shane Mosley Is Getting Overrated.
Yeah, saying his weakness is squaring up on the inside is being a bit nice, he doesn't have an inside game to speak of at all.
I do think "this" Shane could be getting slightly overrated but I don't think Berto's the one to beat him.

You know Ouma, ever since Youngblood called you out for making wishy washy postings I just notice it all the time.
Never an exclamation mark, never capital letters, bold lettering, or any trace of language that could be aggressive, excitable or opinionated.
You are the very embodiment of ambivalent indifference. :)
Re: Andre Berto Pulls Off The Upset Shane Mosley Is Getting Overrated.
Exclamation points are for young girls
I disagree about the capital letters part.
Re: Andre Berto Pulls Off The Upset Shane Mosley Is Getting Overrated.
Shane's win over Margarito is being overrated yes.
Back when people were saying Mosley was done when he struggled with Mayorga, he beat Margarito and people think he is ready for Mayweather.
I think this Berto fight would be a good gauge on how he will stay with a young fighter.
But I think Mosley is underestimating Berto he has been talking all this trash lately and saying that the fight won't go beond six rounds. That could be a mistake.
Re: Andre Berto Pulls Off The Upset Shane Mosley Is Getting Overrated.
What jab from Berto??? I mean I know he has a jab but to put his jab on the level of Wright's or Forrest's is overrating Berto. Berto has a nice jab, his up-jab in particular is a great weapon for someone as short as him. However, no way does he have the type of controlling that those guys had. Both of their had to set up their whole offense behind their jabs, Berto hardly uses his.
If Berto comes in and isn't significantly better then he was against Collazo, no way he wins this bout. I think he will have moments of success like Mayorga did because he has speed and Shane is going to be there to bang with him. Like OumaFan, I'm not so kind in describing Berto's inside game. He's not going to drop Shane, and he's not going to stop him. Winning enough exchanges for 12 rounds to win the fight.
I think Berto will give a good showing but lose a decision/stoppage. I think he'll have a lot of moments early and then by the 3rd or 4th round, Mosley will start dictating the fight because I don't think that Berto can stay behind a jab and neutralize Mosley like others have done. He would have to win a firefight and of that I don't think he is yet capable. I'm not overrating Mosley either, but you have to be expecting just a completely different Berto against Mosley. The one who showed up into the ring that barely got by against Luis Collazo definitely will not win versus Shane Mosley. I'm not overrating Mosley either, that's pretty much common sense.
OumaFan posts like a real person would speak. I wish more people did that. Especially youngblood with his cutesy internet slang like 'lolz' or anything of the sort.

Andre Berto has a very good jab, something Shane Mosley has alot of trouble with. Miguel Cotto basically won vs Shane Mosley by just using his jab, so did Vernon Forrest so did Winky Wright.
Andre Berto is as fast as Shane Mosley and fresher IMO, Andre Berto has some underrated technical boxing skills. And he has some good pop to his punches.
The only real weakness i see with Andre Berto, is that he squares himself up too much on the inside. But i think he did improve on that somewhat vs Juan Urango.
I admit Andre Berto hasn't really beaten an elite name yet, but that doesn't mean he isn't capable of doing so.
Shane Mosley is getting overrated too much IMO, he didn't look good in the Ricardo Mayorga fight and only fought in spurts, he looked like a finished fighter in that fight until the last round.
He looked good in the Antonio Margarito fight, but couldn't that be down to being a perfect stylistic match up for Shane Mosley. Plus Antonio Margarito not being as good without handwraps ? where was the thudding punching power like he had in the Golden Johnson, Miguel Cotto, fights ?
I didn't think Shane Mosley looked that good in that Miguel Cotto fight either, he was totally outboxed and only won rounds when Miguel Cotto cruised in the later rounds.
As for Luis Collazo fight well i thought Luis Collazo was being effective with his left hand, until he broke his best weapon his left hand. Now i know we can't say for certain how the fight would of gone, even if Luis Collazo hadn't had broke his left hand. But surely it would of been more competitive IMO it would have.
And now for Fernando Vargas fights, well he won the 2nd fight in good fashion. But Fernando Vargas was total crap in the 2nd fight, and was a finished fighter.
His last good performance was in the 1st fight, he looked real good and may of been winning the fight before his eye got completely closed. He looked really up for that fight, but then seemed to lack fire in the 2nd fight and looked completely gone from the 1st bell.
Im not trying to discredit Shane Mosley, i do like him as a fighter. He's one of my favorite modern fighters, but do think people overrate him on here just for the win over Antonio Margarito, i remember people were saying how bad he looked in the Ricardo Mayorga fight including me, now people are saying his back ? i don't buy it.
Andre Berto by close MD controlling Shane Mosley behind his jab.
Forgive me if I'm wrong but no one's talking about Pac vs Shane here. Pac is planning to retire after he fights Mayweather.
I haven't heard of anyone discounting Andre Berto either.:-\
Make a poll and see how many people on this site, think Andre Berto will win. Infact im the only one i've seen that thinks Andre Berto would win.
I've been backing Berto, I think his skills match up very well against Mosley. I just have to wonder about his defensive abilities and his chin which MOsley will definitely test.
I would also like to note that I believe the Collazo Berto fought was a completely different person than the guy who faced Mosley, he was far better prepared, in better shape(came in the ring 6 pounds lighter) he looked faster, threw way more punches, and was a lot more willing to trade.

Berto looks vulnerable to me though. I mean Cosme Riveria even dropped him and took him into the late rounds. Plus he went life and death with Collazo who Mosely completely dominated.
Ok Shane struggled against Mayorga, but he came through in the end with a stunning knockout, and that was possibly the most motivated, disciplined and well trained Mayorga we have seen.
I think there are two scenarios.
First, the young kid rises to the occasion, is too fast and outworks Shane for a hard fought but clear decision, similar to maybe Calzaghe Eubank.
The second is that Berto is just badly exposed, gets dropped, beaten up, maybe even stopped.
I don't see Berto hurting Shane or coming close to stopping him, and I definitely think Berto will have the heat put on him. It just depends if he can take it or not.
On past performances I think Berto will struggle, but statistically the young fighter wins more often than not.......
Re: Andre Berto Pulls Off The Upset Shane Mosley Is Getting Overrated.
What I don't get is how people are claiming that mosley was DONE after he knocked out mayorga...So he didn't look good against an awkward fighter at a weight that he's never really been able to impose his power and will. Every time Shane fights at 154 he looks slow and loads up throwing only one or two punches...
Mosley since 2005 is 7-1 with a very close loss to cotto...How was he done?
Re: Andre Berto Pulls Off The Upset Shane Mosley Is Getting Overrated.
I would first like to say that i had the Mosley/Cotto fight AT LEAST a draw. Shane pretty much slugged it out against a much younger fighter (this was before Cotto was broken by Margarito). I say Shane deserves mad props for going toe to toe and showing heart against, at that time, one of the brightest stars in boxing. It's true...Shane has trouble against taller fighters with a great jab. But Berto does not have the skill, awkwardness, and craftiness of fighters like Wright or Forrest. I also feel Richardson has done a great job with Mosley. Shane's punches seem more fluid and have more pop on them. Now...Berto is a young talent...and you never know when a fighter grows old in a fight. But i think Shane has too much experience for Andre.
