And he needs to be able to fight a smart fight for 12 rounds. Not keep losing his concentration every time he gets hit flush. Because that will lead him to getting KO'ed.
In truth Amir Khan showed alot of bottle to stay up, but Marcos Maidana should of had him out of there. Its just he smothered his work, Amir Khan had no legs for literally most of the later rounds.
I've just re-watched the fight stone cold sober.
I actually had Khan winning by 2 points in the end. Made a few observations on his punch resistance. All in all, you have to say it is fairly good at 140, and probably better than it was at 135. The problem with Khan is, because he is tall for a 140 fighter, he will always be open to big looping shots, and i think almost every time he has been hurt in the past, it has been because of a looping hook landing high on the side of his head.
This again happened in round 10. It takes his legs away from him. Same thing happened against Prescott, and the same thing happened against Limond and Gomez. When he takes a shot clean on the chin, he actually deals with it pretty well, as he did against Maidana.
The other thing i noticed is Khan's clumsiness can make it look like he is in more trouble than he actually is. His legs cross over when he's moving in reverse, which is something which shouldn't technically happen, and his chin leans over his lead foot at times. He also doesn't took his elbows in so well, and it can lead to him looking a little dis-organised when he's under pressure. Obviously because of his well documented lack of punch resistance, when he gets tagged and starts going backwards, the situation can actually look much worse as the crowd and commentators react to it.

Yeah I agree. He took some big flush head shots on round 3, 6, 7 and 10 and aside from the big punch in round 10 he took them well. Ironically, if he was the underdog and didn't have a reputation for having a weak chin everyone would be praising his chin and asking what the hell kept him on his feet taking punch after punch after punch in the 10th.
I guess most of us probably think of Maidana being as tough as nails, yet he was floored 3 times by Ortiz and would have been stopped by Amir in round 1 had that body shot landed 20 seconds earlier.
I watched it again today and actually feel really positive about Amir's performance.
I truly think he can hang with anyone in the world.Doesn't mean I think he will beat everybody but right now he is absolutely as likely to become king of the 135-140 class as Bradley, Alexander, Marquez or anybody else. I'd have him (slightly) favourite in all fights.
I also think he could be stopped by all of them too, which is what makes him so exciting.

For a 140lb fighter he certainly does. Aside from Kotelnik, Maidana has stopped or at least dropped every fighter he has ever fought. I'd say he hits pretty hard.

Con's jaw has gone from regular glass to tempered glass. It's an improvement. But regardless it's still glass. I don't think that will ever change. Con who posses a skill set that is top 5 in all of boxing did himself a great disservice when he stopped going to the body. After the 3rd I don't think he threw another body shot. He would of finished the fight early if he did. His speed and skills have never been questioned. But he showed his weakness mentally when he allowed Maidana to fight his fight. Con went from fighting to win the fight to fighting to not get hit. It's what led to some running at the end of the fight. Con I think is able to control a fight for the whole 12 rounds against a non-puncher. But I don't think he can do it with a puncher. Cuz it seems the possibility of him being knocked out plays in his head. And it shows

No doubt Violent D seen better days. Off line activities have taken it's toll on him. But he still remains a top off the line poster. Sadly the same can't be said about Rains. A poster who can never be called washed up. You actually got to be good at one time to be called washed up

Con who posses a skill set that is top 5 in all of boxing did himself a great disservice when he stopped going to the body. After the 3rd I don't think he threw another body shot. He would of finished the fight early if he did. His speed and skills have never been questioned. But he showed his weakness mentally when he allowed Maidana to fight his fight. Con went from fighting to win the fight to fighting to not get hit. It's what led to some running at the end of the fight. Con I think is able to control a fight for the whole 12 rounds against a non-puncher. But I don't think he can do it with a puncher. Cuz it seems the possibility of him being knocked out plays in his head. And it shows
Maidana is Maidana. The man just wants to hit something. What you see is what you get. He won't change. He'll continue to take punches and swing for the fences. He'll continue to have success against glass jaw fighters like Con and weak minded ones like Ortiz. But somebody with a good chin and a little bit of skill will always beat him.
I personally have no problem with Maidana's actions. Boxing is boxing. It ain't tennis or golf where muthafukkas need to keep quiet. One of the rules in Boxing is "protect yourself at all times". There's a reason they have that rule. And another thing is Con was completely over doing it with glove taps. He was trying to touch gloves it seem after every break. Maidana was right when he pretty much told him "fuck you and your glove". In case people didn't notice, Maidana did embrace Con prior to the 12th round. When it was the time to do it. If Maidana would of hit him there than yeah it would be a low cheap shot. A bitch move. But he didn't. Bottom line Maidana touched gloves/acknowledged Con when he had to. He didn't have to them others times. No friends between the ropes

I agree, I dont think this is the same guy from a few years ago. This guy is on the slide, clearly past his prime.
No doubt Violent D seen better days. Off line activities have taken it's toll on him. But he still remains a top off the line poster.
Sadly the same can't be said about Rains. A poster who can never be called washed up. You actually got to be good at one time to be called washed up

Con's jaw has gone from regular glass to tempered glass. It's an improvement. But regardless it's still glass. I don't think that will ever change. I know it must be hard to accept but you're just not the same anymore champ.
In you're prime you destroyed opponents, you wouldn't say mediocre, you would of said someone like this guy, Alexandru Manea (0-52 record).
