Re: Edwin Valero in the current 140.. prolly would have put Lucas to sleep
Wow.. so much disrespect for the Venom. So many posters on this board are misinformed about this guy.. smh unbelievable.
Edwin Valero had great technical abilities. I trained next to him numerous times so I kind of know.
And did somebody compare him to Tryone Brunson? lmfao
Valero was a straight up killer, plain and simple . Lucas Mattyese would have got fucked up bigtime. Im positive

well murdering your wife and then going on to prove yourself a grade A coward by killing yourself not to face punishment pretty much merits it, as for the other, Spadafora allegedly beat up Floyd so many moons back in sparring yet went on to get a gift draw against Dorin, the same Dorin who was blasted out by a single body shot against Gatti, you rank a guy by what the guy does in the ring, and all Valero did was beat up Demarco, that makes him slightly better than Linares, both Garcia and Matthysse would have knocked his ass out, finding his chin as if using GPS, and he would also of gotten wrecked by the likes of Marquez, and probably Rios, also pretty much anyone at 147 would have beaten his ass with ease
Re: Edwin Valero in the current 140.. prolly would have put Lucas to sleep
Valero was an exciting fighter, I was always wondering when the KO would happen. It's too bad he couldn't cope with life outside of the ring, it would have been interesting to see how far that punching power would have taken him.

I dont care to talk about his personal life. A fighter should be judged by its actions inside the ring and Ill do just that.
You are making assumptions just like you do with MArgarito but nobody knows whether Valero killed himself or got murdered in jail..There were whispers of him getting murdered but Ill leave it at that.
Valero was a gym rat, and a natural fighter who had the ability to adapt and change up like a chameleon. You honestly believe that bum Rios would beaten him? Sounds like you are hating or just straight up dilusional.
Valero beats everybody except for Marquez...

funny cause I was about to say the same to you, Rios is a bum, but he's already shown more than Valero did against that level of opposition, as I said, anyone can look like a great during sparring, he only fought Demarco, and well that's not saying much

Guys like garcia wouldnt even have got near a title if valero was fighting in the division.. lucas is just a one trick pony and valero would have kicked his ass all the way back to argentina.
How many of you liked the venom?
By the time of his death Valero was still one-dimensional fighter, Lucas is also one-dimensional, but with worse power and stamina, worse quality in punches. This is why I favor Valero for 6th round KO or TKO
How can you come to the conclusion that Matthysse has worse stamina when he's arguably gotten stronger in the late rounds of big fights while Valero has seen a 10th a grand total of 1 time and never a final bell?! Valero looks like a cave man chucking boulders compared to a Matthysse delivery.
Valero win over Vincente Mosquera in Panama trumps Matthysse best win against Peterson

Yep. But a lot of these guys in here dont even know who mosquera is and how dangerous he was at the time.

I watched a lot on Valero. This guy was sparring 15 rounds against both brother Santa Cruz, one after another, and beat the crap out of both of them. HE was able to seriously hurt people in sparring, almost knocking them out. He was throwing 900 punches at bag in 3 mins working 10-15 rounds like that and making a hole in the bag like Big George Forman. Last, but not least, Valero punches just sound different. Lucas was throwing this type of snappy sharp punches against Garcia for 2-3 rounds, then he stopped. Lucas is a "pussy" in comparison to Valero, Valero is a legend, Lucas will be forgotten in couple years like any other fighter who got couple title shots but never won it. PERIOD.
Valero was demon possessed of top of that. That explains his supernatural power and how things ended for him. There are only three forces in the world: the Holy Spirit, demons stuff and men's work. Lucas is apparently not backed up by anything except his flesh (this is why he lost to Judah and Garcia). I never bet on works of the flesh
You never got back to me over thee dispute concerning Donny Lalonde verses Ray Leonard. Fair enough. You were probably a seed in Daddy's sperm sack at the time and have never taken the time to research the topic or even watch the fight. In the above you almost sound like Jim Jones. I hate kool-aid and you live under a bridge.
All I tried to say there that Dundee decided to not to support Loenard in that fight, because he felt it was a "mismatch/cherry pick/proves nothing/catchweight crap/whatever", unfortunately, I did not put it in word very well, so it gave the wrong message, happy now? Also, I never claimed to be an expert in "boxing history", double happy now? All my knowledge is based on youtube videos

The atmosphere in that fight was crazy. I can't see Matthysse or Garcia taking a fight there. Especially not the Garcia camp. Angel would get killed during the ring walk
Re: Edwin Valero in the current 140.. prolly would have put Lucas to sleep
Going back to Lucas, I believe his problem is that he is doing mitts too much, he should work more the heavy bag like Floyd or Valero, developing the "snap" (he has the snap, but I mean training the ablity to sustain it for all 12 rounds) and punching output. Floyd by the way by the end of the camp is also throwing like 900 punches in 3 min (I saw the punch count in some 24/7).

Mosquera was a good fighter but he wasn't king kong. Panama had a shot in the arm with mass championship weekend yr earlier...helluva war btw.. and it was an insane enviroment but it also showed how a guy with ok pop could walk in on Valero early and land repeatedly.
Re: Edwin Valero in the current 140.. prolly would have put Lucas to sleep
I think both Lucas and Garcia edge Valero in a tough decision. Then again, Valera had hands of stone

Neither was Lamont Peterson. Who you think was a better fighter? Mosquera or Peterson? Obviously I'm talking about there prime versions and not the current ones

From what I've seen and I may be coming at it with a tilt....seen Mosquera 3 times, Peterson at least 14...but Peterson def more consitent, faster feet, faster hands, sharper. Mosquera looked top class early in winning his trinket but hit often and then a wide plodding slugger with Valero. I believe both of these guys suffer from the same fault...they fall into fighting a not so smart fight, other dudes terms at times and get hit too much. Pretty much why I fully expected Matthysse to torch Peterson eventually. If Bradley and Khan are dropping you, Matthysse is ruining your day. At the end of the day you got two good boxers being detonated buy superior punchers. Mosquera went out slow and painful but had his moments, Valero stepped up, got up and ended it...Peterson went out like he was run over by Brinks truck. And to go totally bat shit crazy...I think Lucas was just as impressive in say the Judah fight. I know, fuckin nuts. Thought he fought a helluva fight, showed some boxing and closed like a brute and got jobbed on the cards. Thats the long answer of it, blame the rum.
