This. A fucking cheat and a C level skill set.
re: Prime Margarito in today's WW division
When Margarito was 18 years old, I saw him fight Alfred Ankamah. If my memory is correct, Ankamah was 14-0 with 14 KOs at the time. He hit Margarito with a killing punch to liver and Maragarito went down. He should have stayed down, maybe even died, because it was a vicious punch. I was ringside and I saw it. But he got up and stopped Ankamah. That had zero to do with 'loaded' gloves, but a whole lot to do with being tough. Not only physically but mentally.

THis is the kind of post I respect.. Not all this concrete bullshit. smh
With or without plaster, anybody who has followed Margarito's career would understand what he's about.
He built his career out of pure tenacity, heart, determination, ability to take punches, while dishing out his own assault.. He was able to beat talented opponents with these traits.. Punching power was never a big part of his game..
Plaster aint got shit to do with why he beats people's asses..

Clearly you're both big fans of Margarito and Greynotsoold has followed him from his early days, and that's great. But my point is that once you've been caught cheating, people are gonna doubt everything you've done before. It's no different to Ben Johnson and some of the Jamaican sprinters. Everything they've done has a question mark over it.

its a pity that boxing fans are daft enough to slate margarito for the loaded gloves yet to love a long list of fighters like holyfield after being caught using peds
:appl:
Great post, Eric.. Yes, many boxing fans tend to be daft and fickle minded. As if one incident defines a fighter's whole career.. smh
It was a pinch of substance, a pinch, not no fuckin concrete.. idiots
And many world class trainers have claimed that if they wanted to, they can easily tamper the wrap without the fighter knowing.. I even made a thread about this not too long ago..
Supposedly the good guys in boxing such as holyfield and mosley are known cheaters too.. is taking steroids less of a crime?
Margarito was a fighter who earned everything the hard way. Nothing was handed to him.
Finito, this has to stop. It was not a pinch. You read an article from a guy who wants to minimize for Margarito. Anybody can write an article. Remember Arum said the Commission is just picking on Margarito because he is Mexican. Is that true too? Here is an interview from the guy who caught him. It was a block and it was in both wraps even in the wraps the commission had signed off on.

Eric, I agree that all cheaters should be treated as such. But I also know, just as anyone of average intelligence does, that all cheating is not the same level. That is why it is so hard for people to let go of what Margarito did. Putting brick like substances in block form instantly makes you a KO threat, its the worst possible cheat, and instantly puts the opponent's health, career, and even life in danger.
re: Prime Margarito in today's WW division
How can some of you defend this fucking guy?! Because he was "tough"?! Utter nonsense. The guy cheated and seriously damaged a fighter for a good period (Cotto). His reputation is tarnished...PERIOD. Boxing has had it's fair share of brawler/tough types. No need to glorify a cheat like this in any fucking way.

sorry mate i have had this debate many times
@jehoshaphat, loaded gloves do not necessarily pose more of a threat to the opponent than a juiced fighter
anyone with average intelligence would realise that :)

I guess we'll just have to pretend we don't agree. (I'm sure you know in your heart;)) As one is fighting enhanced athletically and one is outright bringing weapons to a boxing match.

at the same time this is from a guy who wants to maximise the offence :)
in fact i would go as far as to say he has a real vested interested in making sure that the offence is maximised
re: Prime Margarito in today's WW division
Say what you want about him but he got caught before the fight not sure about the rest of his career. As for the juice i think he was on that shit as well like every fighter at the top is. Holyfeild never failed a drug test his whole career which extended 26 years so i kinda think the playing field is even there. I am not sure how many people load there gloves maybe that's just as common as the juice is who knows. Margarito would be a champ of one of the many belts most likely the wbo belt maybe the wba belt.
