Re: Hearn turns down title shot for AJ???
Boxing in America, especially for the big guys, is in very bad shape. The only guy with any real claim to anything now is Tyson Fury, other that it should only matter to the fighters themselves who is champion. Lets just see decent fights happen? Of course nobody cares about Charles Martin, but the fact that he was willing to fight Joshua in the UK should be to his credit. Sounds now like he and WIlder are more likely to tango, which again aside from the title stuff, is a perfectly good fight.
Re: Hearn turns down title shot for AJ???
I would edit that post but instead I'll just let my day drinking be known.

Saying i'll fight everyman and his dog is par for the course in boxing. The most important part is how much dough do you want to fight everyman and his dog.
Didn't work out to well for Michael Bent now did it ;D. Save for the relative novice part. Sort of.
Yeah good shout. Bentt tried to cash in on being "British," got bashed up at the press conference then nearly died after getting ironed in the ring.
Re: Hearn turns down title shot for AJ???
Martin beat a nobody really to be a Champ but you can only beat who is in front of you ! AJ has time on
his side a bit more learning what's the hurry, yes he was hurt in his last fight but he survived and won
theses are BIG guys one punch away from disaster.

People are talking about Bruno's comeback and the comparisons have been made but Frank given the same circumstances would have taken this fight. Risk and Reward and the fundamentals it stands for in this sport have eroded. It’s now a rape of the rewards w/o any risk. Nobody had ever heard of Martin and his title fight was viewed as a joke because of the opponents and because it was a throwaway title by Fury. Now it’s too big a risk for boxing’s newest deliverer of heavyweight purgatory. And to offer to come to England, I already like the guy. Big deal that Whyte gave him some issues. Joshua probably fought that fight on nervous energy and the event however trivial to the outside world occupied much of his because of the past. It wasn’t Mayorga/Forrest.
The fights are all shit and the fans are all making the point that it should be shit. Seriously, nearly everyone here agrees NOT TO TAKE THE TITLE FIGHT. All the logical replies that can be made can't get around the fact there is not one fight on the horizon where you think "these are the 2 best without question, this was the fight that needed to happen". It's hard to care about this sport in the slightest with how badly it is rigged these days. Worst era ever
Whilst I agree the heavyweight and middleweight scene is in a embarrassing situation it seems you have lost the love of the game? Boxing has these phases and you just have to recognise it for what it is. AJ is in a position where he does not have to take this fight and I believe he is right on this occasion.

"Martin wants an extortionate amount of money"
In other words - there's no chance it's him.
Re: Hearn turns down title shot for AJ???
Martin is holding out for the best money he can get. He may miss out altogether.

Yes. Even if they do fancy beating Martin the problem is once he's got a title everybody is going to expect him to fight Haye or Fury or Wilder. After his last fight they're going to want to bring him on a bit slower than throwing him in for a title fight next time out.
Re: Hearn turns down title shot for AJ???
Looking at the current rankings he'd be defending the title against the names they're mentioning anyway. Being the massive draw he already is they could easily get away with several defenses before making the "super" fights.

That is basically what Wilder is doing. AJ would be open to criticism and PR wise that would not look good for him.
Re: Hearn turns down title shot for AJ???
Hardcore fans wouldn't like it but it wouldn't hurt him (they make up a small minority). Like Haye he already has the casual fan hooked.
