Good call. I wasn't working it out in my head what the problem was. I mean besides the fact he could put his friggin hands up;D... But seriously, that makes a lot of sense!
Man no need to put your hands up....
I spent a little time in a Duddy training camp before one of his irish fights. It's easy spot little problems when you spend all day watching him for a couple of weeks.

That completely narrows your being a true fan of boxing. I am not saying you love a fighter like Duddy or Wlad but you cannot hate the extremes of boxing it's impossible to do. You either dislike the sweet science part of it or you dislike the brawlers.
If you don't accept one or the other and appreciate it then you've just become a fan of very few boxers and a hater of quite a few boxers
Well that's a great statement... I mean, look, I'm not troleing ESPN Classic for old Whitaker fights but I respect what he did and think he was a fantastic boxer... I appreciate his skills.
Boxing and Brawling is the yin and yang of boxing... I don't think there would be one without the other. They ofset eachother. ;D

Re: That Bum. I think his name is Duddy
I totally agree Pride of Boston...my all-time favorite boxers are an ecclectic group of pure boxers like Willie Pep and pure punchers like a young George Foreman and everyone in between.
If you cannot appreciate a boxer and you cannot appreciate a brawler then you leave yourself very little in boxing to cheer for and lots to bitch about and frankly I am fucking tired of all the bitching

True and the guys who thumb their noses at fighters like Duddy are no better than the shitheads out there who don't know anything about boxing other than "Mike Tyson's Punch Out"

I guess we all start somewhere... Even if it happens to be being raked over the coals by members of a forum;D

Re: That Bum. I think his name is Duddy
Yeah.....and everyone can see Duddy needs better defense, I am not defending that but what boxer ISN'T a bum to some of the members here???
"Floyd is a bum, Taylor is a bum, Lacy is a bum, Wlad is a bum, _____ is a bum."
I guess Ali is the only guy you can NEVER say anything negative about or else you get called a racist
It just gets old....people always talking about who is a bum and not who did well or fought with heart or followed a strategy well or whatever....it's crap

Re: That Bum. I think his name is Duddy
I been saying this for a few months now. I seen Duddy fight a few times on msg and he is an loser. He has a good following that has the pull for someone to even consider putting him in the rind against Pavilik. His defense is terrible and if Pavlik do decide to fight him that fight will be over in three rounds. Pavlik is going to kick his F#!ken ass!

Well as I agree Pavlik would dispach him early in the fight, he is not a loser, nor a bum... But thanks for stopping by;D

I think it was obvious that when I said "We" I was generalizing and when I described "What we want..." I meant in an Ideal world. Not in the real one. In other words I was being sarcastic...
I understand your point but you really need to sit back an chill for a while. I think this is the very first time someone in this forum has insinuated that I might be a hater...

Well that's true... At this point he's gonna start breaking into guys that can and will out box/out punch him... I can't wait to see the matchmaking that happens and when the Defense will tighten up.
(Mar, this isn't directed towards you. I'm just responding to your post and adding this stuff so I dont have to post again:))
But when someone calls a fighter a bum for stepping into the ring... With no defeats mind you... Who is willing to put on a show... Who has a large fan base... and who has skill. (however limited)
I have an issue with that...
It takes a special person to even step in between those ropes... And we're not just talking about a someone... We're talking about an undefeated prospect.
Oh, and did I mention I'm really not a Duddy fan?;)

Re: That Bum. I think his name is Duddy
I was at the fight, and everyone in the audience seemed to believe that Duddy lost. In fact, when it was announced that Duddy had won, even the pro-Duddy crowd booed.
-
Re: That Bum. I think his name is Duddy
God damn a bum I don't so.He did beat the guy didn't he.You can see there is some talent there but to put him in with Pavlik right now is crazy.I would say another half dozen fights or so before taking that leap.Well who knows if he's getting paid why not fight Pavlik(arguing with myself) well anyway I just thought it was a little harsh to be calling this a guy a bum.He has something mostly all of us don't have on these boards and that's called BALLS.

Well not appreciating what Duddy had to go through to win is pretty shitty. Sure he shouldn't have had as much trouble with this guy as he did but that does add drama to the fight.
Duddy has a lot he needs to work on but the kid has heart and he actually FIGHTS he doesn't box, he doesn't use any sweet science....he's a blood and guts brawler a la Arturo Gatti.
he's not Ray Robinson but his style doesn't make it fair to call him a BUM

How come that Canadian-Tunisian can't sell thousands of tickets in NY then? He was far more exciting than Duddy in that fight and we'll probably never hear of him again.

He fights on freaking PPV every fight for Christ's sake, so your telling me that his fans are justified and Duddy's are not? Your the one that brought up his race dont try to turn it around on me because I called you out my brother you brought it up.
No, what I'm saying is that both are limited boxers taking advantage of non-boxing-related attributes they have (Irish in NY, famous dad etc.) to do infinitely better with their boxing careers than they would have done had they been , let's say, Canadian-Tunisian. The Canadian-Tunisian guy Duddy was fighting was far more exciting to watch than Duddy was, landed far more pwer punches and battered the man, but Bob Arum wouldn't ever invest a dollar promoting him because he's got no potential fanbase. Duddy is a good-looking charismatic Irishman who can box well enough to beat opponent-type fighters so he's a potential gold mine in Irish-friendly NY. That's why Duddy is where he is now and the guy that actually won the fight on Saturday is one of dozens of guys who have to go their whole career and maybe not get a chance like a Duddy fight. (And even if they win they get robbed.)

It's Wayne Rooney and his fat mom and Dad, even in Boston you must have heard of Wayne Rooney :-\ anyways the world's most expensive teenager in football who played for Everton before Man Utd and that was a pic taken in the local paper of just how the fat runs in the family :D

I like the way they're all doing the same troglodyte motion with their arms when they're walking. Plus with them coming out of the sea it's like an evolutionary flashback photograph.

Arturo Gatti sold a ton of fights out in Atlantic City...he was Canadian.
We probably won't hear from him again because he won't capitalize on how well he did vs Duddy

True... It won't raise any questions about if the kid's any good... It'll just raise questions about Duddy. Sad, really:-\

Gatti was born in Italy and was heavily marketed to the large italian-American community in the tri-state area because he was, like Duddy, a potential gold mine. There are endless fighters who are capable of doing what Duddy can do and better who'll never get a chance because they're just not marketable. You've already agreed with me on this point at least twice in this thread.
-
Re: That Bum. I think his name is Duddy
Well sorry Tunisia isn't represented very well in the US.
Sure Gatti is Italian but he's also Canadian.
Fighting and drawing fans is all about style and marketing....Duddy has some really good managers they have built him into a big money fighter.
If the Tunisian guy is really any good he'll make something of himself. Look at Tua, Ibeabuchi, Ouma, Miranda, Golota....those guys came from various countries not extremely well represented in America and people got behind them
-

So you agree that Gatti/Duddy are infinitely more marketable than the Tunisian guy. Excellent.
The Tunisian guy isn't good enough to do much more than be an opponent-type fighter. He isn't an exceptional boxer which is the only way a promoter will bother with a fighter with no big potential fanbase.

Re: That Bum. I think his name is Duddy
I find Duddy an entertaining fighter. You will never see him in a bad fight, he gives it his all. I don't think he will ever be a world champion as he has some glaring weaknesses, but any chance I get to see him fight, I will be there.
Listen to what he says here, he was willing to go out there and slug more, just to appease the fans. He has a heart of a lion, and I respect that more than anything.

Your a waste of time thats why. Your really disrespectful using the term bum, thats why you got bad rep from me and thats why I think your a douchebag. I dont have to explain why I am a fan of any boxer, but I will because it's easy with Duddy. For one he is always respectful unlike you. You never hear him talking trash before a fight or after and he fights to please the fans, which is refreshing in todays money matters most society. He is always in exciting fights, you cant deny that, you can argue that he may have lost but you can't deny the action packed fight. He's got a solid chin and heart to match. I don't always like the perfect boxers like everyone else, I like guys that have flaws but rise above them to win, and thats what real warriors do. Is that good enough for you? Seriously why all the Duddy hate? Dont hate appreciate.
