Re: Photos: Joe Calzaghe is so small?
When it comes to who has more experience over the other. Even though Joe has the greater amateur background, Hopkins has been in the ring with much greater opponents. Hopkins is the first top pound-for-pound fighter Joe is going to be in the ring with.
Hopkins' most noteable fights are Roy Jones Jr., Trinidad, Joppy, De La Hoya, Taylor (twice), Winky, and Tarver.
Calzaghe's most noteable fights are Eubank, Lacy, Bika, and Kessler.
I would rather have a fighter who fought FEWER quality opponents than one who fights MORE less-competitive oppents...
I personally think Calzaghe is going to pull this one out, but I have never picked Hopkins to win any fight and he has proved me wrong EVERY SINGLE TIME! I just think the discussion over who is the more experienced fighter is easily given to Hopkins.

Hopkins' affliction top is fuckin awesome

Speed: Calzaghe
Age: Calzaghe
Power: Hopkins
Experience: Hopkins
Workrate: Calzaghe

I wouldn't say Hopkins has more experience than Joe. Calzaghe has experience of actually fighting and beating prime undefeated fighters from his weight class. That's something the Nard has never experienced.

How does Hopkins have the experience advantage?
21 years of pro experience, more fights, better opposition.

Re: Photos: Joe Calzaghe is so small?
anyone else wondering how an Oompa Loompa like Enzo preoduced a son like Joe:confused:
As for the fight, I think Calzaghe is beat Bernard. It is well knowned that LH is not going to release any extra power from Joe because he is limited by his hands, but I think his stamina will actually improve. I can see him overwhelming Hopkins from round one and taking a comfortable points decision, maybe a very late stoppage, round 10.

Re: Photos: Joe Calzaghe is so small?
Win, lose, or draw...you have to admire what incredible physical condition Hopkins keeps himself in at his age. The man is 43 years old and he has a better physique than fighters half his age. Great discipline.

Older guys has the experience advantage... Hopkins is 43 while Joe is 36... Hopkins already experienced everything (i think) but Joe has one thing he hasn't experience yet... that is LOSING a fight...
Hopkins has more life experience because he is older.. doesn't mean he has more boxing experience.
And yeah Joe don't know how to lose.. That's a HUGE advantage in his favour.
Add that to your list.
Not knowing how to lose is not always an advantage. Just because Joe has fought bums and won. It is actually a disadvantage. When he steps in the ring with someone of Hopkins calibur when things start going down hill, or not exactly the way he wants he will get worried. Plus not knowing what it's like to loose he will not have that motivation of not wanting to loose again. Therefore the extra boost you can get from that feeling will not be there to take. Loosing for the first time is more of a creep up and bite you in the ass thing anyway.

If Joe had lost to a "bum" like Hopkins has he would have been better off.
Interesting.

Dyou think Trinidad would have lasted as long against Joe, or Joppy, or Wright.
Taylor would have been knocked all over the place, didnt Jermain have Bernard floundering all over the place? Pavlik stopped him but Bernard couldnt.
Bernard will be happy to do what he did in the Taylor fight, he will realise he cant keep up early but it wont be like Taylor, Joe will keep the pace up and either Hopkins stays in his shell doing piss all or tries to fight and gets stopped;D
Why do people keep trying to discredit Hopkins because he lost to Taylor ?? Taylor is a hell of an athlete and if he had better stamina i think he could beat Calzaghe. Taylor has excellent boxing skills and a superb jab a much better jab than Calzaghe's IMO. And Hopkins only lost two razor thin decisions against Taylor its not like he was completely out classed. And yes actually i do think Tito and Wright would of lasted 12 rounds with Calzaghe 100 percent. Calzaghe hit a much lesser fighter like Lacy with 1006 punches and couldn't even stop him.
Pavlik stopped Taylor for two reasons 1 because of his punching power, and 2 because Taylor has not got good stamina. That doesn't mean he is a bad fighter just because he lost to Pavlik, boxing is all about Rock, Paper, Scissors.

I never said winning was a disadvantage. I said not knowing what it's like to loose can be a disadvantage. There is a difference. For example tasting a loss, is somthing that you can use to your favor not only in boxing but in life in general for future experience. It's just another aspect of the game that Hopkins knows about that Joe doesn't. I think it was pretty clear and legitimate what I was stating and your just being sarcastic about it. That's pretty lame fella.

Maybe it deserves sarcasm.
You're trying to paint LOSING as an advantage.
LOSING is NOT an advantage to WINNERS. Fact.

If the ref prevents Nards holding like the ref in Floyd-Hatton, Joe absolutely SCHOOLS Nard all twelve rounds, and when I mean school I don't mean school like Floyd doing nothing in the Baldomir fight, I mean school like the way Ricardo Lopez did his opponents or the way JMM did Juarez.

Re: Photos: Joe Calzaghe is so small?
NICE pic with both of them staring down at each other.
first of all.......... i do see a little tip toe action by BHOP. it's either the angle of camera or the shoes have a thick sole.
second.......enzo is not amazed by the size of BHOP but the little grin of his comes from the amazement of JOE giving him what BHOP least expects coming 2morrow.
Anyhoo.....nice pic once again and hope to see a gr8 fight.
I bid you all a safe wild night 2morrow with a nice pint filled to the top............cheers!!!!!!

Re: Photos: Joe Calzaghe is so small?
Hopkins defo looks significantly bigger than Joe but we havent seen anything yet .
Wait til the weigh in. I sense alot of money is gonna shift in Hopkins favour with the bookies after that .
-
Re: Photos: Joe Calzaghe is so small?
joe is still way to quick. both fighters are old now. so I guess the winner would be determined who can continue the way they have been fighting. I think Joe will win. This guy is quick, HOpkins, has not faced a fighter that quick since jones and look at what happened then.

I don't remember, especially in the first fight, Bernard getting knocked all over the place. It was a close fight and I though Hopkins one the first one.
The Taylor fight (and other, like Mayweather/ODLH) showed that Hopkins can be outworked and that his defense and potshoting isn't as popular with judges as a guy who lets his hands go. This isn't to discredit Hopkins at all, because I agree with you, but Calzaghe will let his hands go and he won't slow up. He'll hit Hopkins more than Hopkins has been hit in a long time. At the same time, Calzaghe as never been in with somebody as crafty as B-Hop and Hopkins will find ways to land short straight rights in between Calzaghe's combos.
I can't pick I winner in this one. I'm leaning to Calzaghe, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Hopkins pull it off.

25 quid isnt exactly much money for a t-shirt. Normal price for a t shirt in England or Japan.

Re: Photos: Joe Calzaghe is so small?
Agreed, nothing in it size wise, odd angle, Hopkins in high heels, nuff said.
Logic says that Calzaghe's workrate should win out, but I reckon he's got to win 8 rounds minimum to get the nod.
Could be a stinker, could be great, either way I cant wait.
Come on Joe

I don't really see why you guys would dispute the sizer advantage? Is that going to be that great a factor? I don't think so. I think figting in US could me a major factor. Hatton couldn't do it. Ref or not,he would have been KTFO. Will the pressure get to Joe? I hope not and I hope it's a great fight too.

Mind you when it comes to Bhop workrate isnt really the issue..
Its really Not always what bernard is doing, but what his opponent isnt doing, what he cant do, what Bhop wont let them do.. he fights his fight whether its walk 'em down tarver style or whether its blast em out tito style whatever rate the fight goes hopkins is going to be there the man is always in crazy shape.

I gave "workrate" to Joe since I heard it from his fans that Joe's workrate will overwhelm B-Hop and take Joe to a sure win... ;)
